  • The eleventh Mai-HiME AMV features Mikoto Minagi, the secondary protagonist in the series and one of the first HiME with their abilities properly showcased. Enrolled in Fuuka after a confrontation with Mai and Natsuki, she’s determined to reunite with her missing brother, bonding very closely with Mai herself. Mikoto has poor social skills due to essentially being raised to be a living weapon, killing her own grandfather as a test to see if she could harness Miroku’s power. During the HiME Festival, she discovers that Reito Kanzaki is her brother and is put against the protagonists after Mai is tricked into believing she killed Takumi. Despite being reunited with her sibling and following him dutifully, Mikoto still feels so alone, wanting to be friends with Mai again, but knowing that the damage may be irreparable, believing that she truly didn’t know how to love after all. Mikoto is a deceptively layered character, despite her comical antics, the festival shows how much her conflicting emotions are hurting her, and whenever she tries to break away from her conditioning, the Obsidian Lord strengthens its hold on her and Reito. You can see her crying before striking Mai at certain points in the final battle, even when bolstered by the possession. Mikoto’s CHILD is known as Miroku, assumed to just be her Element, appearing as a giant claymore that can cut a BTR in half and summon spikes along the ground. When reunited with Reito, Miroku’s true form and power are unlocked, one-shotting beings like Gakutenou and fighting evenly with Kagutsuchi. Ai Shimizu voices her and gives a great performance both as Mai’s plucky sidekick and the Obsidian Lord’s envoy. The dub sees her portrayed by Caitlynne Medrek, who has probably the second best performance there (ignoring my bias towards Nao), conveying the conflicting emotions within the character very well. Mikoto believing that she really had no concept of love just before Kagutsuchi attacks her is probably some of the best acting in the dub.

Yes, it seemed to just be the song itself, so I used a different one that still worked with Mikoto’s character.

Mikoto’s role in the manga is severely reduced, already established as a Fuuka student from the start and having slightly better social skills. As a result, other changes occur.
-She forms a friendship with Akira during the Ori-HiME Unit arc.
-Reito doesn’t exist in the manga, with the Obsidian Lord’s vessel here being Takumi: Mai’s brother.
-Mikoto is mind-controlled during the Searrs Arc, this time by Shiho’s CHILD, which is completely reworked here

@@Elite77744 Yes, I’ve seen her video. It’s one of the worst I’ve had the displeasure of viewing.

@@asm4991 Yeah her argument is so weak and all her sources doesn't really have a scientific evidence on the main topic of her video.
