Firstly, I'd like to thank you all for the feedback on this video so far whether it was actual constructive criticism or a lighthearted comment for laughs, I appreciate the diverse perspectives people have been sharing with me, as that fuels open conversations. It's refreshing to engage in discussions where we can all agree and/or disagree, as it creates an opportunity for people to shift their perspectives on various aspects of Fortnite.
While reading my comments, I've noticed several mentions of contradictions and weak points in my arguments. Initially, I considered creating a follow-up video to address these concerns and clarify my points. However, I realized that the effort required for another video would likely lead to burnout, given my current energy levels and the amount sleep & sanity I’ve sacrificed making this video.
Okay let’s make things abundantly clear right off the bat, in my personal opinion Epic shouldn’t have brought back the chapter one map and while that may be a hard pillow to swallow for some who enjoyed this season, I personally value the nostalgia for chapter one to such a degree that I’d rather let it stay as a memory rather than pulling it back and making it nothing more than a charade, basically what I’m saying is season OG shouldn’t have happened, am I happy that it came back? Yes of course but do I think it was a right thing to do? Statistics aside no I don’t think so.
In this video I had made a couple of errors in my initial coverage of this season since I mentioned that the lack of originality might make the season dull and stagnant for a portion of the player base (04:57), all the while expressing a desire to extend the season by two more months (09:54). Now before you say “but that was the point of the season” like many of you have which is a valid point, let me clarify. Yes, I highlighted the absence of original content, and some misinterpreted it as me expecting constant game changes to keep me entertained. My actual desire was for Epic to create a truly innovative season, and while some of you are content with what we have, I am simply not.
In the previous chapter (chapter 4) many season themes felt repetitive. Chapter 4 Season 2 had a futuristic theme, reminiscent of Chapter 1 Season 9, Chapter 4 Season 3 explored a jungle theme, already seen in Chapter 1 Season 8 and Chapter 4 Season 4 centered around a heist theme, just like Chapter 2 Season 2. Season OG essentially recycled old content and while some appreciate this, I personally find it problematic, as it means we haven't seen anything truly original from Epic for a substantial amount of time.
The way could imagine Season OG working in that sense is extending the season but infusing it with unique elements. For instance, starting in Chapter 1 Season 5 with the cube setting up runes, following the chronological course of said chapter until introducing a twist, considering Slone's mention of Jones influencing the future, Epic could’ve explored the idea of the butterfly effect in more detail, as in our in-game actions as loopers would impact the progression of past seasons in real-time, providing a more engaging and less dull experience, maybe fusion of weapons or something unique while keeping the game simple, it’s not exactly an impossible or unrealistic expectation to set for a company like Epic Games.
Furthermore, In the video I state that the reintroduction of the Chapter One map may have desensitized some players, potentially diminishing their nostalgic connection to Fortnite (17:29), later in the video I propose that Epic should establish OG Fortnite as a distinct game mode (23:55). This shows my hesitation toward the map's return, as it generates a dilemma. With the original audience brought back, a segment may only remain invested for the OG season. Consequently, once the season concludes and the map is majorly altered or gone completely, many might stop playing the game, on the other hand, if the original season becomes a separate game mode, player retention may increase, but over time, the sentimental value attached to the nostalgia could diminish.
Another thing I’d like to mention is that while many of you saw the manipulation & persuasion part of the video as me either stretching it or talking a bunch of non-sense, I saw it as it being a relevant detail as to how Epic Games does their marketing and how the three modes of persuasion applies to the OG season, I also wanted some of you to learn something from my video that somewhat applies to Fortnite but also applies to the real world and in hindsight I should’ve considered that it could be considered as a stretch when making the video.
In a way thanks to the feedback on this video it made me think about whether I actually enjoy playing the game or not and that is something for me to decide but ultimately while it did feel good to come back to the map since it felt like a breath of fresh air, I personally think the map should’ve never returned since no matter what epic would do you cannot capture lightning in a bottle twice, and I’m not talking about the statistics or the player count, I’m talking about the feeling you had when you played back in chapter one, it simply won’t be the same anymore and that’s why I said that chapter one should’ve been left as a great memory rather than reliving it as season OG.
Either way I hope that whatever happens next will be for the better of Fortnite, thanks for reading and see you after the big bang!
I agree, however I believe they should have reverted to some point in chapter 2 where the game started to get shit with dead designs(no originality) , and an overflow of collaborations turning the game into an advertising platform. They should have kept within the boundaries of the original graphics and mechanics of OG fn, whilst still updating the game (eg. how updates were done between season 1-9 chapter 1) . Clown moves like destroying the original game mechanics by adding sprinting etc, are part of how they managed to destroy the game, along with the overload of low skill maps that do not keep with the style of fn at all. Once reverted they would have a second chance at keeping the feel of the original game + ui, whilst still updating it each season.
Another thing is that they made it way too easy for sweats to spam build - an easy fix: bring back the slight build delay from chapter 1.

Thanks for this comment man, I saw the flaws in the video and I agree with most of what you said.
But for me the og season was a good thing because of the concept of rotating seasons, the lenght of it and the little twists we had (sprint, mantling, the grapple avoiding fall damage).
It’s not the same from the past and it will never be but I had a great time playing it. I don’t want it as a permanent mode because it will be dull quickly.

I agree mostly with this but honestly it hasn’t felt dull to me. It feels so good when I get legendary loot because it’s so rare. Plus I love the vehicles
Fair point, you have to take into consideration where you stand with this season, there is a reason why I said that it will feel dull & stagnant for a portion of the player base and not everyone or all players.

I Agree with you Mrpunk and Catastrphic, this season was very good to me, finding my old friends seeing the other ones living their lifes and playing with good guns and not guns with scopes or a damn hammer that bounces.
About the drones/hotspots i feel like this is soo true i hate season 9 but i love season X but this mashup wasn't made for me.
also they got rid of lazy lagoon, polar peak and the other one that i forgot, those were my favorites.

I don’t disagree with your points but in the video you mentioned making season OG longer while mentioning issues with prolonged exposure and players losing interest after a bit, I think it being shorter is their way to tackle this.
To top this off I can see the actual developers not being fond of this season. If you were to show an artist art that they made when they first started drawing they would most likely dislike it. But people have whined about wanting this map back so much that there’s no way they wouldn’t indulge eventually. It was not a matter of if, only when.
You can never bring back "Og" Fortnite, the thing that made "Og" Fortnite, "Og" Fortnite, was the fact nobody knew what they were doing and we were all just having fun.
a huge thing for me was the leaks, day before the season we already knew what would happen 3 weeks from now. in the og times we never knew that and it was a surprise and it felt so good to check all the new stuff out every week.
We knew before chapter 4 season 4 even launched that we were going to have a 1 month season after

Fortnite Season OG was peak. The good map combined with the good weapons along with some of the new mechanics like sprinting and rebooting is better than anyone could wish for. I just wish it would have been longer, I didn't get bored yet and would have continued playing another month.

Started playing within the month the br launched. I really liked OG season. Not because i was nostalgic, but because i was able to hop on without having to watch youtube tutorials on all the new mechanics and items. I popped in occasionally through the seasons after the black hole and just found the changes to be too much. Plus OP items and mechanics just seemed more common as seasons went on.
100% agree with you. Started playing in season 2 before lucky landing added. I think a lot of the newer players (chapter 2+) don’t understand how refreshing it was for older players to be able to go back to a more simple map with more simple gameplay. I’m glad I’m not the only one that finds some of the stuff they change in their updates to be too much. Chapter 5 is a great example of this
I think I know your answer already, but I was curious what your thoughts are on the rating system they added where you can’t use specific skins and emotes, depending on what you're playing (specific creative maps) within Fortnite.
It was going to be in the video but I cut it out since Epic is actually trying to change the island age rating system after many people complained, I felt like it was counterproductive of them to shove all these marketing strategies up our throats only to not let us truly own the skins, so the fact that they are attempting to change it is a good thing.

honestly i started playing in chapter 4 and mostly enjoyed it, maybe because i had no frame of reference, or maybe just cause it was new, but the only thing really dissapointing to me was the lack of events and storyline that really appealed to me, but i feel like if fortnite can use this to turn itself around in chapter 5 then i will completely move past chapter 4 and enjoy the new season, but honestly with the amount of new gamemodes being added it feels like epics need to make money is heavily outwaying the need for good content and fortnite is really starting to turn into roblox
I miss some of the simplistically, I’m not all for “let’s keep it at season 5 forever. I joined in chapter 2 season 4 and I felt like the og map was kinda overhyped. I think what really was good for me was the lootpool. I liked the fun weapons and wacky combos. But that’s where it ends.

This just isn't true for a lot of people. After Fortnite OG I can truly say I enjoy the simpler loot pool, vehicles, and POIs on an objective level.
Bro has taught me more about ethos logos and pathos than my school ever did.
They can try and make things perfect, or just keep moving forward and leave it in the rear view mirror. If they wanted to go all out, they could have made the battle pass look how it used to look with the free pass at the top and the battle pass rewards at the bottom along with making the menu less cluttery because I feel I'm the only one that gets a headache when looking at the menus for too long.
The whole thing about feeling dull falls apart since it is only one month long with massive weekly updates. Also previous seasons were much duller and Chapter one was fine even though we had small updates every week... you don't need massive updates to keep people entertained.
Fortnite having these massive updates is what’s been driving the fans away from the game. Fortnite no longer felt like Fortnite
@@SpeedHomeAttack The updates aren't the problem. They're cool. The problem is what is in the updates. it is often to much. It kinda looks like chapter 5 will be to much but I haven't played yet and I will go in looking for the good because I play games to have fun lol
I agree that the updates can definitely be too much. Has turned me away from the game multiple times
I think with the originality point about them adding certain POI’s but removing some aswell was because they wanted to add as much as they wanted without removing as much.
They did plan for this for a while, as they had worked on the live event since either June or March (I remember 2 dates from leaks, don’t know which belongs where). Lastly, if they changed anything with the lootpool or map, people would get upset. For example, them adding the grapple glove, which be honest, it’s a weaker, scaled down spiderman web shooters, made many upset.
What I don't get is why they didn't add sunny steps, volcano, and lazy lagoon
I absolutely agree as someone who is started playing the game since chapter 1 season 5, one thing that I need to point out is how extremely outdated the map actually is one big example is at loot lake and all the rivers the fact that they don't have swimming mechanics making it ridiculously annoying to traverse them
just use a drift board build use grapplers shockwaves or any vehicle or mobility
Chapter 1 season 5 is barely crossing the threshold into “og” but that’s how it was back then, no swimming across to the island, it was either jumping through the water or building over to it.

As someone who also started playing in season 5 (technically season 4 but my PC was dogshit back then and I was barely able to play)
I have to say that I'm in love with the new map and how simple its become again. Fortnite doesn't need to be complicated to be fun. Matter of fact, older seasons were more fun because they didn't "random bullshit go" all over the map. The simple loot pool is better, map events shouldn't exist and just be reserved to LTM's. But they won't bring them back unfortunately.
I just love how there are no bullshit instant win/lose map gimmicks. No swimming isn't a bother to me but neither was swimming as well.
All in all, I also had fun at early Chapter 2 Season 1 because it too was simpler.
I feel like Epic Games really doesn't believe that this is the way to go but it 100% is.

I would like to raise a counterpoint: People have been playing DE_Dust2 in Counter Strike for over 20 years at this point and it is still well loved and the most played map in the game.
If something is great, it can stand the test of time without having to drastically change it or resort to gimmicks.
(I'm not saying the OG map is perfect BTW, just saying you can enjoy older things and not have it solely be because of nostalgia. )
I wish there was more map progression, storyline lore and interactivity with the cube and zero point in season OG it lacked content. They should’ve gave us closure on what the original nexus cube event was about and what actually happened. Season OG just felt like fan service.
What’s wrong with fan service. Isn’t that the whole point of what made this season great, servicing the fans? I started playing in season 2 so I don’t much care at all about the storyline, I just play the game for fun. Hope the old map/weapons come back as a permanent game mode

I am gonna be honest, I have not had this fun in fortnite since like season 6 or 7. I just think this fortnite is better, even if it's predictable or whatever. I prefer very small changes if they keep the basics. Because the basics are already so good so there is no need to change. I prefer the simplicity.Great video tho!

Hey man, i watched the entire video, i won't comment on everything because it's super late and i want to sleep but i'd like to talk about my experience.
I started playing fortnite back in chapter 1 season 1, in around November of 2017, i played all the way until chapter 2 season 3, after that i pretty much quit, letting my younger cousin play from my account and whatever, when i heard about the OG season i was super excited, not because of the map but because i knew who would be back, all of my high school friends *(I am currently 21 years old)*, i haven't talked to them or see them in so long, they all have moved away and so have i, to study, work, chase our dreams etc, so when i heard about fortnite OG i was so happy thinking maybe i can make some new memories with them in a simple game with simple weapons and simple mechanics just like i remembered it, currently as i am writing this it is 27 of november 2023, i've played all the version of fortnite OG and i actually the majority of my friends did come back and we talked, played games together and it felt even better than the "Glorious day", yeah there were a few things that were... rather odd like vehicles having fuel even though there is no way to put fuel in em or POI been different from what they were, but in the end, it's all really fun, and yeah obviously a big billion dollar company would want to make money, that's not just epic *(Like you said)* but every single company out there.
Long story short, i love fortnite OG because it connected me back with some amazing people i've missed, i got to play a game i've also missed and i wouldn't change that for the world, i am glad the chapter 1 map came back, and on the end event *(Or bing bang whatever they call it)* i'll be there with my buddies with the same skins we used back then to say one last goodbye before we leave once again.
Personally after this event, i wouldn't want the OG map to ever come back again, it came at the perfect time in my life, reminding me of better simpler days, reminding me of when life was much simpler, homework, high school drama, and video games, i still play video games just not PvP, single player games like a hat in time etc.
Even though i do understand where you are coming from with all this, and you are right for almost everything that you've mentioned, it still doesn't change my opinion that this was probably their best time to release this, at least for me.

Meaning this season is a completely new chapter

Also that fact you said about ch4 S2 and S3 originally being for chapter 3 just makes my thought of "Chapter 4 was a filler chapter" even more true
That's kinda weird, since i remember Epic announcing it as Chapter 4 Season OG sometimes. Also i think that the Big Bang live event is announced as chapter 4 finale but i could be wrong

Great description on who appreciated this season and who didn't. You were spot on, so even though i dont personally agree as a casual gamer, you made very good points I could understand for someone who would be playing the game more often.
I'm looking forward to chapter 5, as nice as it was i only ever played seapns x on the first island so there was no big nostalgia hook for me.

The real reason is because we got older, and its never going to be as exciting as it was when you were little. When we were younger we saw the game as new and exciting, and when you are older things arent as exciting in general.

An issue with og fortnite as a permament seperate gamemode is the fact that rno build and build are both seperate modes already and it would just add extra clutter trying to appeal to both sides. Ideally if it were to become a a permanent mode they would have to place a nerf turbo build and edit speeds for the mode by itself to be able to appeal to nobuilds fans in any way while also somewhat making the game playable to builds fans
Most of my friends got into Fortnite around chapter 2 and I barely played in chapter 1 so chapter 2 was more nostalgic because of the memories I had with friends, sure I like the new season but it just feels dull like you said, going back and doing a callback season doesn't feel like a good idea and some people say "oh but nostalgia!" Some people didn't play that chapter. I wasn't one of the "bring back the old map!" people I liked every season I played (except Mega that was ass), if I was really invested I'd be level 100 in 3 weeks from playing everyday after school until 9pm, hell I'm almost level 100 this season but I liked those seasons so much because of the friends that made it fun

@@wdotwreckvideos Yeah but, if you really think about it, not really. It's gonna be complicated again. An entire new Lego game mode? Racing? Rhythm game? Don't get me wrong, those things are cool, but by what I've heard, they're going to be permanent modes of Fortnite. It's gonna make Fortnite stray away from it just being a Battle Royale game.

I think my favorite part of this season is being able to play the main attraction of fortnite, build mode. There are a lot of OGs coming back which means im less likely to be qued up with some kid who plays fortnite 24/7 and could crush me no problem.
17:13 Apparently Epic Actually LOST the file for the Chapter 1 map and had to rebuild it from scratch for season og.
Ngl epic has been in a negative light since the garbage show if fracture was released. Then to add on chapter 4 was a mess. and here we are with them using chapter 1 map as a marketing scheme. And possibly using the big bang event as a advertisement for the modes they are working on. It's not looking too good tbh.
at the end were you said they could make everything the exact same and it wouldn't hit the same is true the only way for the og players to get what they want is for there to be a varification like you had to start playing around this time to access the og map. this is the only way they could get remotely close to creating a picture perfect recreation of the origional map. I started in chapter two though but I love this season for the lack of colab items and the great loot pool along with poi's that just feel good to go to thats just my two cents though. Overall I love this season and I am a bit of the problem as far as sweats go but I have no intention on leaving the game

It will probably be much less successful and Epic won't always be able to let people play only in November

The actual reason why its so short is because nostalgia wears thin after a few days, like you said, the map will become boring even with the shifting lootpool and minor map changes, me personally i cant wait for Season OG to end.

I loved this season and it got my friends into Fortnite and me back into it after the trainwreck of Chapter 3 S4 and Chapter 4, but my biggest issue with Fortnite OG is that Epic will suffer from the Pokémon effect where they won't go one season without bringing something or forcing something from Chapter 1 into the current game trying to constantly cash in on nostalgia. Sure, its not as agredious as Pokémon constantly remaking decade old games but its something to keep an eye out for in the future.
No I agree for sure, I am a og player, i started on day 3 of season 2 and played till season 4-5. I havent came back because there wasn't a multiplier for building sensitivity and the game was getting too complex. I came back for this og call back and I honestly and curious how fortnite will play with a new season, i hope the og map is a game mode still incase I despise it.
The lack of effort became especially clear to me during the live event. I had such high hopes for it, eventho I had no clue how they would put season og and eminem in the same live event. Turns out they do a watered down end event and then show 8 minutes of unskippablee ads. They were so sure that this season would fail that they made it a month long, didn't bother to change the UI or textures to match the old ones and added some new items and mechanics so that we wouldn't die of boredom and ended it with a live event that basically says "That shit's finally over, check out what's coming next!". This season was the most fun I had in a game in years but they really put the absolute bare minimum amount of effort into it. I hope the numbers prove to you epic games, that more isn't always better.

Jokes aside, I do feel like you've made some good points. Epic definitely seems like they're panicking after the failure of Fracture and CH4 as a whole. And I gotta say, I fell for the nostalgia lol. I'm curious on how the Big Bang and CH5 go. Hopefully they're good, but remember what happened last time.
For me season OG was better than chapter 5, but there is so much things Epic could've done to make the OG season better like there was literally a rift, grappler, chug jug in every chest. If they just took the old files and made it OG fortnite 100% like it was without manteling or anything like that it would be better. ive been playing project era which is OG Fortnite like it actually was and it is simply just better than what fortnite have been for the last 4 years.

I hear a lot of people claiming this was a trump card to revive player count, and while yes it definitely acts that way, there has been lore and file crap showing that this was planned for a long while. The event happening at the end of the season specifically has been in progress since at least December last year. Also Epic is doing fine without it.
On another note, the lore is definitely suffering since chapter 3 was cut short.
I don’t care about the 10 people who care about Fortnite lore, I just wanted the og map back, and yeah everything that happens in every game has to have been planned for a long while.

I played OG just for a while had vbucks so bought the pass.
left the game after level 78 cause its the end off the pass and the player who probably don't even no what chapter 1 once was
are sweating the game so hard that even I a decent player can't even get 1 or 2 kills..
another thing is to look at project nova a game that wanted to make everything og but it did not fix anything because players have gotten so god at the game

They even changed the item shop at the beggining so people would think they are doing it for us, but after a week, 3 collabs / shit icon dances / griddy / Black Widow / Reaper and the last day they put everything in the shop at once :D
I do agree with most of your points; season OG was fun but it felt hollow and frustrating to play, and with chapter 5 going back to the typical stuff we’ve been playing since chapter 2, (with the new GAMES Lego Fortnite, Rocket Racing and Festival) it’s probably time for me to move on from this damn game and something better with my life.
Also there more games out there then cod, siege or FIFA to play🤦♂️
Other thing I don’t care about the Fortnite storyline but I agree it felt rushed
lisen i started playing fortnite since chapter 2 season 2 for a few days played a bit whit a friend in season 4 chapter 5 but season 5 got me in till 2021 i was loosing intress but did not stop till i stopped playing after chapter 4 season 1 then played about 1 day of season 2 chapter 2 but season og got me back at the last week or 3 the temptation to open the game again won and i played again and enjoyed it fortnite making this decishion got me a non og back on the game

I personally genuinely enjoyed the map despite the nostalgia. A break from the chaotic map of before and a bridge to the new map.

I think you are looking over that if they are new players that havent played chapter 1, then chapter 1 will feel like a whole new chapter to them.
Valid point, yes you’re right but some of us (including myself) wanted epic to create something new, chapter 5 is a really good example of that, not everyone wanted them to pull this OG stunt just to get a lot of people back into the game.

I feel like although season og was blatantly a marketing move by epic games to get players playing chapter 5 and the games that came with it, lego fortnite, rocket racing, etc, I feel like its stay was warranted. A month long was probably the perfect length, even though it went by fast, I still found myself bored of the season in the last week of the game. Plus it wasnt just old fortnite, id say it was enchanced more than the original with the modern movement and the inclusion of greasy grove when season 7 came. I liked it alot and even though it hads its issues I think its one of the best seasons of all time.
I’m so glad I stop playing this game a year ago. I did go back for the OG Fortnite season but I did not spend a dime on the game. The game has been going downhill since chapter 3.

Something that makes me a little mad is that they added random things that werent in the og seasons at all. Why is the grapple glove in the season? Why do the ballers have batteries?
Edit: Another problem. Why is the battle pass the same amount of money when it has half the rewards? I know many people will buy the pass and then never play again after this season. Why is it the same price of the bigger passes?
This isn't the same timeline, that's why the grapple glove is back same for map changes and the battle pass skins merging the ballers having energy, and there being fuel for all the vehicles is balancing they aren't just gonna have everything being op for the sake of og and third the pass is the same price cuz you still make the vbucks back and less time = less tiers = less rewards
I quit in chapter 3 because of the constant addition of spray meta, mecs, bad or overly nerfed favorite weapons ai etc etc. I came back for og just last week and was having so much fun, the game and everything was so smooth, but deleted the game today after this dogshit update.. Im done with epic and their roller coaster of disappointment with updates.

It lost the novelty for me after the first week. And ive been playing since Ch1 S2
I had moved ton from fortnite to siege and when that got stale I kinda bounced around from game to game. But this og season brought me back and I think I'm gonna keep playing, its fun right now and I made it a challenge for myself to get better at the game than I ever was back in chapter 1.

I think you are wrong. Most people didnt find it dull at all. The loot pool was good. And even when fighting some old players that are ok. Like they are not bots but not sweats either. It was fun.

The reasons for OG coming back is all thanks to the fact that chapter 4 was a mistake and that chapter 3 was never supposed to end that early, we were supposed to get chapter 3 season 8 yet they changed plans last minute and had to make chapter 4

While I do agree with some of your points, I do have a couple problems:
- Literally every game, whether Roblox, Minecraft, or Fortnite, etc etc, they all have manipulative tactics in them when it comes to purchases.
- The season being shorter is actually a good thing im my opinion, since it provides a sense of scarcity, a genius play.
- Epic would've had to plan this 9+ months in advance due to the entirety Chapter 4 storyline building up to this.
- I would like to note that most companies have increased prices due to inflation. Say what you think, but it's been happening all over (Clash of Clans for example)
- My issue with the game right now is actually the amount of bots. Everything else is great about the season.
- Also, I'd like to note the storyline is told through the comics. (They could've said something to the playerbase but I digress)
Other than that, you make very strong arguments and this is a very good analysis of the current state of Chapter 1.
