K40 - Head - An Up Close Look

The K40 head is possibly the most important single item in the K40. You can have a good tube and great mirror alignment but if the head is not solid and traveling good you will have problems.
I give you a close up of the head assembly so you will have a better idea of how it is built so you will have a better chance when diagnosing a problem.

Hey John! Just out of curiosity does the mount plate for lens 3 need to be square with the x rail after removal and replacement?

NO. The correct answer is to ignore the actual position of the plate as it will be totally dependent upon the alignment.

I suggest you review this video. You need to make the carriage assembly part of the alignment process. It is not possible to align from mirror 3 to the lens. The following makes this infinitely adjustable.
