Your reasons for hiking are basically mine. Years bleed together with virtually no landmarks in my memory, probably as far back as high school. Everything just leveled off and I started coasting. Games were a large part of it, but I haven't enjoyed any of my hobbies for years now, not really. People say time spent having fun isn't time wasted, but when nothing happens for 10+ years straight, it certainly feels wasted. After my first hike this year, I feel more alive than ever before. Present and fulfilled. Should give it a bit more time, but I think this is what people talk about when they say someone "found their calling". Even when I'm not out there, I'm planning, learning, looking at gear, trying food, watching hikes, pretty much everything in service of the next trip. It's the healthiest obsession. Another great adventure, loved the honking geese and the rock formations. Not so much the litterers and taggers.
Born and raised in Ohio, moved to Maine in 2012. Thanks for the "flashback!" Fell in love with hiking here in the western mountains and the Whites of New Hampshire. Come on up if you dare, you might not want to leave!
Dude, what I dig about your vids is that you don't try to hide it when you go off course. You seem to appreciate the adventure, more than the destination. Hats off.
The headwaters leading into the lake is all Paddle creek and out of the spillway at the dam across from the old iron furnace is called storm creek. There is an old mining community under the lake. It was really neat to see what was left of it when they drained the lake a few years back! I'm glad you enjoyed our lil area of the world!
I am a local here at Vesuvius and first and foremost thank you for picking up the garbage that you did. We do the same when we are there, loved your video and if you ever come back just know that I myself have spotted black bears and possibly Big Foot in the area. I know this is an old video but nonetheless We appreciate you ❤
Thank U 4 this video cause I grew up in Ashland Ky just across the bridge not far from where U are and I grew up hiking Lake Vesuvius starting at of like 10 years old. We use 2 go there during my high school days and Hike camp and party so watching this was so nostalgic so again thank U 4 this video.
Awesome stuff dude. A friend of mine and myself went out to Wayne about the same time but this year and did something similar. we wanted to take the Lakehore trail up to the tip of the lake and pick up the back pack trail there at the junction where you crossed the stream, do the upper loop of the Backpack trail and take the lakeshore back out on the other side there. Unfortunately we too ended up on some horse trail somewhere that we thought was the backpacking trail and hiked well into the night and ended up giving up and camping on the side of the horse trail somewhere. Still no idea how we did it but the next day we realized a few hours in that we were doubling back on the BP trail towards the split there where the BP trail starts up the hill the and ended up doubling back the lake shore trail and camped at the spot you passed at the 9:30 mark. Nice little spot. 3rd day we just followed the Lakeshore loop back around back out to the parking lot. Beautiful area, but dang they really need to work on the markers and trail condition. Seems like a lot of people have issues out there.Anyway keep up the good work!
Why do I hike? Like you, for the adventure. People need adventure in their lives. Modern office jobs don’t provide much adventure or much connection with the real world. It provides exercise, stress relief, grounding and a break from the monotony. Glad to see you make the pitch to get people to pick up. I do the same on local day hike trails.
AWESOME! GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS! ENJOYED! BE SAFE! HAVE FUN! SMILE! LOVE THE ROCKS FORMATIONS TOO! IT'S FUNNY OUR LAKES AND RIVERS ALWAYS LOOK MUDDY. WHEN YOU WATCH THE VIDEOS FROM OUT WEST THEY ARE BLUE , GREEN OR TURQUOISE & CAN MOST OF THE TIME SEE TO THE BOTTOM DEPENDING ON HOW DEEP THEY'RE! THANK YOU ALWAYS!
Hey Frozen, we hike because all cares and worries fade away and im looking at nature and wondering where i will get water and camp... hiking is amazing.. never know what you will see..... love it

I grew up se ohio but have never heard of this lake and i hiked and camp in most of the parks in ohio. That lake looks muddy. Probaly is clear in rhe summer. nice hike
I love to hike to be out in nature ,to be part of it , Love to hike with my dog . It helps me unwind and unplug for awhile . Thanks for sharing your video and experience .
well Today i will hike in the rain because after watching you and a few others i have got to get out there myself. Love the way you enjoy the outdoors to the fullest no matter what thanks for making the video- and thanks for picking up trash and noting it, i cant stand it either got to make people aware they need to pack it out
Getting lost always makes a trip a bit more exciting and challenging, I have been there before. The trip looked real fun though. I live in Ohio and have this place on my list. My reasons for hiking is the challenge of completing a goal, living on only what you can carry, stress release, and it's just fun.
I have a Montbell Ul Down Jacket that also doesn't fit in a pocket but has a separate stuff sac. I larks headed the draw string of the sac to the neck tag on the jacket. Love sleeping in a hammock too!
Thanks so much for this video! See? Ohio sucks at hiking signs! It's embarrassing! You seemed like you took it well! I would have been pissed and frantic! I asked the guy at REI where a good local area was to hike and camp for a newbie and he suggested Lake Vesuvius. Are we serious?? Just because it's in Ohio doesn't make it a good hike for a first time backpacking camper. Unreal! You saved me tons of frustration! I really enjoyed this! Thanks gobs!
hey, fellow backpacker! I'd been to Vesuvius several times. one of my favorite trips. like you, I had gotten discombobulated in that same area, it never fails to misplace me! Still is a fantastic trip. I'll look closer, but, have you done Shawnee State Forest. it's west of Vesuvius, just west of Portsmouth, Ohio. BRUTAL trails that roller coaster at grades of 20%. water cisterns at various sites. great Elevation gains, and solitude. thanks for bringing us on your trips. Oh ya! I backpack to just enjoy life, enjoy the beauty of nature, the quiet, abdominal when with friends, the camaraderie!
My wife and I did a September 2016 backpack trip to Vesuvius and we also got lost. As near as I can tell we made a wrong turn or missed a turn right in the same spot you did!
I live nearby. Great area. I'm an old timer, I was even there camping along with the Rainbow People (Google it) many years ago. Done lots of fishing, hiking, nature walks there over many years.
+Sean Porter www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprd3792530.pdf If you are planning to do the same route as me, just get to where I crossed the water at High Bridge, take the left up Aldridge connector then west for a very short time then take your next right back onto the B.P. trail and you should be fine.
Enjoyed the video, haha... Vesuvius is one of my favorite places, but I haven't backpacked there yet. Did the lakeshore trail CCWise last year and we got confused on the north end trying to figure out where to cross. Definitely want to BP there next year!
33:55 thank you for taking the camera and capture it :) I just got the warbonnet blackbird xlc, its crazy how comfy it is compared to the hennessy explorer.. thanks for the advice about that one!
Great video. Definitely motivated me to start working on winter gear. I appreciated your "sappy" moment. I agree, we all get out for our own reasons. But we all have one thing in common and that's the love of nature. I subbed and I'm looking forward to watching your other videos. Thanks
I did this trail this past new years day, and I believe it was a day or two after it reopened from the controlled burn. So I got lucky! It is a bit of a confusing trail the first time but is one of my favorites in ohio. Nice vid!
It's really cool seeing you hike one of the places I've grown up hanging out at. It sucks you didn't go up on the high rock though. Towards the end of your trip when you said something about the garbage, you was at the bottom of the rock. It's a really cool view of the lake from up there. maybe next time... During the Fall when the leaves are colorful is my favorite time to go. I look forward to your vids. Thanks a lot!!
Great vid, man! This location is only two hours from me and I've been wanting to get down here for several years. You've finally convinced me it's a must for this spring/summer. I'd really like to see this place with all the foliage out. Maybe, if you can make it back down to Ohio, we can do a collaborative hike/video. Oh, and to answer your question, I get out because I love being outside and feel most at peace in the woods. There is nothing like being on the trail and definitely nothing like camping out under the stars. I would do it every weekend if I could.
awesome videos man, you are really inspiering me to get into this hobby. i also enjoy the solitude, my early 20s were not the greatest as well. this seems like something i would realy enjoy i love to work out and i love to camp, seems like this would be combining them, plus it would be something fun for my dog and i to do together, he would love this.
Sappy is good at times. I grew up in west virginia for about 5 years of my early life. We lived on a mountain so no cable. Rarely tv so exploring the woods is what we did for fun. I miss that and so that is why i like to hike. Brings me calmness too. I havent overnighted by myself yet but in due time i guess. Face my fears. Lol
Nice video. When I'm backpacking and wont or can't light a fire I carry me UCO candle lantern. It kinda gives the feeling of a fire, although obviously not the warmth. They're not the lightest things to carry, but I really like it. ATB from the UK Tim o/
+AdventureArchives yea I saw yours a day or so ago. Wish I had the willpower to carry the camera gear you guys do. But hey as long as we get out there and educate we are doing our job. BTW. Your tarp for the hammock. I think you just need to tighten the Ridgeline and put the asymmetrical fly to the ground instead of the tree. That way the water runs off. I don't know I couldn't see exactly how you pulled the tarp out. But it looked really good as a rain catch =P
I live really close to lake Vesuvius my brother and I just backpacked there this weekend. I was just telling him about how you drove down here in the fall when they were having the controlled burn. I wish you would have had a better experience with the trail and the lake wasn't muddy. You are correct about walking the trail counter clockwise it is less confusing that way. I hope you make it back down someday maybe with better weather and some leaves on the trees. Thanks for sharing
I'm surprised to see no ice in that area. We drive our pickup trucks on the lake next to my house. I will miss the fall and winter backpacking. Very few people and no bugs. Now why do I backpack? First you see way more when backpacking than someone driving up to a lookout spot. The camping part I also really enjoy. The hammock switch has been my favorite part. Great Video! Bob
I have some new areas planned for this summer up north. I'm hoping to get 1 more winter trip in, but it needs stay cool. Also we still plan on going east this summer. I left you a couple comments on facebook. You may not recognize the name, but same pic. Bob
hey frozen you do sound sappy lol but I get it I live not too far from this place and I never knew it was there. gonna go on a backpacking trip here soon to this lake I typically go to wildcat hollow in Ohio but will be going to the dolly sods next mouth thanks for the videos keep it up!
Thanks for another great video. You gotta get yourself a koozie or make one yourself from reflectix for your food. It'll keep it nice and hot for a long time while you let it rehydrate.
Haha, I hear ya. I like to let mine sit a long time to allow the contents to rehydrate, hard to be patient after a long day on the trail though. Thanks again for your videos. If you get to come back to Southern Ohio and want to hike part of or the Entire Shawnee Backpacking loop or at Zaleski give me a holler.
Hey Frozen, From about the 33-35 minute mark, I can totally empathize with your reasons for getting into backpacking. Like to the point where I had the same kind of realization myself. Just the other day I binge watched through you Beginner's Backpacking Playlist (Thank you for all the information in those as well as all of your vids btw). I live in Maryland, plan on getting the Blackbird XLC next paycheck. Still have to get pretty much everything else gear-wise. But if you are at all interested, it'd be cool to meet up and go for a hike sometime, I'd love to get out there with someone more experienced, particularly whenever I go for my first overnight/multi-day trip.
I live like 15mins from this lake. Im there almost every weekend in the summer. As are lot of people. The problem with the trash is thats like where most people in this area swim and such and they don't treat it as a place where people such as yourself come to enjoy the sites and everything. They treat it as a party lake. Go out there on a hot summer day. I grant you wouldn't wanna come back. Witch is a shame but if you can look past all that its a great lake and camping area. If you ever go back i recommend you go out paddle creek and camp out there. There is a primitive camp site and its really nice. Im glad you enjoyed our neck of the woods and on behalf of the ignorance around here i apologize.
+NuclearFurby No need to apologize, pigs are everywhere I always bring a gallon zip lock freezer bag with me for my garbage and pack all my meals (other than mountain house dinners) in quart size freezer bags. It makes for very easy cleanup. So i just throw as much garbage as I can into my freezer bags. It was only worth mentioning on this trip about the trash but it was unbelievable how much garbage was laying around comparatively.
I too live nearby. It's been improved a lot and a beautiful area. I was there a lot, even when the RAINBOW PEOPLE we're camping there. That was awesome!
its so wild how forests look so different all over usa. i live in the cascade mt range on mt hood in oregon. on a volcano. in a rain forest. our forest look so different from state to state. i am only 10 minutes into the video. i will sub to your channel. i am a fellow adventure man and film maker. hello from mt hood oregon. ok enough yapping. on to the video. wild how the water is so dark. what makes it so dark? if your bored and want to see what the forest looks like where i live this time a year i did a video 2 days ago on the zig zag river from glacier run off in the rain forest by my house. peace. you just hit mile marker 5 and i will end my comment so i can focus on the adventure. peace. came back at the end to edit this. you ask why we hike. or go out in nature. just to escape a stressful job. to see nature. to be alone. so many reason. cant think of a reason not to. glad you found your way. fun video. hope you check out my new one just to see how different our forest look.
MOUNTAINOUS we had a lot of rain/snow in February that year (I’m from ironton) when he was hiking this at the end of February all the streams and creeks washing into the lake had made it muddy. It’s beautiful and blue in the summer/fall
I've been watching your trip videos as I figure out where I'll be going on vacation and weekend short trips. I've enjoyed them and have added a few of your destinations on the list for 2016. What maps do you recommend as last year I had some problems finding trailheads at Wayne National Forest in Ohio and Michaux State Forest in PA.. I would always end up finding a trail but they were never the ones I had planned on doing and it really got frustrating. I'm mainly thinking of either maps or even a website that may list trailhead GPS coordinates so I can punch them into my Garmin so it can navigate me there. Thanks and keep enjoying the adventures!
+pursang833 I just tried to find the map I used, and I can't seem to find it. The parking lot coordinates I use are usually in my video description. For Lake vesuvius just put this into google maps: 38.605375, -82.630418
+Outdoor Adventures Thanks for the reply! I thought there might be a specific website you accessed them from or program/app. What got me about the Wayne NF trip was they listed GPS coordinates of all the trailheads on their website. But amazingly every one of them was wrong and I still can't figure out how they did that. Anyway, enjoy yourself!
Hey, glad you posted this. Found it while doing some research on this trail with a possible excursion of my own in mind. I'm curious, what do you figure your total pack weight was on this trip? You were carrying several items that I generally consider heavy 'luxury' gear and avoid. That said, I'm constantly experimenting with gear and trying out new things. Several of your gear items caught my attention and curiosity: the weight of your hammock setup altogether, weight of the windshield for your portable stove and if it makes a noticeable difference, and finally, your down jacket packability/weight. Saw another video of yours not long ago, have really enjoyed both.
Yep, it can get confusing with the trail intersections. To stay on the BP trail you should have went UP hill about 1 mile in instead of following the lake. Steep climb but you would follow a natural flat until another climb up and over the ridge and road. Some ridge walking and bring you down to the road leading to the beach on the right. Turn left and walk a forest road until it turns into single trail and brings you above the lake. At times you can see the lake trail you were on. Will go down and cross Horse trail and follow BP trail to the rightish but look left. not marked well but you can see the cut trough the brush. You are on the BP trail. Up, down, ontop and through hollers, brings you in seeing distance of the Storms creek Horse camp. Cross the creek and follow trail to the left up onto the ridge. Follow and go down into small hollow ( pass unusual Sand Stone Boulder ) with steep decent. It will bring you out to the water cross bridge you hesitated at, follow gravel road along Storms Creek about 1 mileish. trail will cross creek to other side on the left. Used to be a bridge there, was washed out years ago. Will follow Lake Shore Trail to other side of boggy area. trail will split , Go LEFT towards little hollow and trail will go right and up hill. Follow and will cross road at Camp Ground. Cross and follow ridge line and bring you back to your car, the dam. Your last mile or so is on top of the ridge with lake on the right. I have hiked this many many times. Heck, I grew up there, literally. Can't BP any more. I used to make a 3day 2 night stay out of it. I would recommend parking at the boat ramp instead. I can hike this in my dreams. Thanks for sharing..... I used to go hiking ... just to be me. Love the tranquility, ect.
We just got into hiking two years ago. Now have REI Stoke day packs and Osprey Ketel and Kyte backpacks. We have got fully into hiking and a lot of that is because of YOU!! Just did the Sand Run Falls Trail this Sunday. only 6.4 miles but the falls were amazing! see my channel for the video of that hike. Still learning and your vids help us tremendously! keep them coming!
I started hiking/backpacking to get away from my job as a server. I joke that waiting tables has made me lose faith in humanity. LOL. Being outdoors calms and refreshes me, and people are generally nicer on the trails. Two things: 1-I finally decided to embrace the winter and asked for snowshoes, jacket, snowpants and other gear for Christmas and Dec. birthday. Of course this would be the year where it has been unseasonably warm and haven't had much chance to use them. Go figure.2- what brand is your windscreen for the stove and where did you buy it? I cant stand the cheap flimsy one that MSR sells.
+arcana1973 I lose my faith in humanity every time I drive to work. (once i'm at work I don't mind it but the driving there ugh...) This year I really embrace the winter too, lots of trial and error with clothes and standing outside for no reason but to try layering systems. Lots of testing in my backyard etc. I forget the brand of the windscreen (it was a cheap knockoff but it works for the whisperlite well), but this one is the closest one I can find www.amazon.com/HIGHROCK%C2%AE-Lightweight-Compact-Folding-Windscreen/dp/B005QRYQ0C/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1457525442&sr=8-2&keywords=wind+screen
+Bob K. I was looking at the micro rocket/pocket rocket for winter but for melting snow when it's really cold, research suggest white gas being the way to go compared to a cannister stove. So my Whisperlite stays my stove for winter conditions. For anything over 40 degrees I bring my alcohol stove which does a 2 cup boil in about 5 minutes. Obviously it takes twice as long to boil than say a pocket rocket but I'm ok with not having to buy canisters or worry about disposal.
+Bob K. I used the JetBoil as my main stove(only stove). Never had an issue in it in my trips so far and ill even use it at work to heat soup. In the Raccoon Winter trip video, i mention it at least a few times. I like it a lot.
I know what you are saying about wasting time sitting around, so I started my own you tube channel to get me off my butt! I hope to do a lot more things and get better at filming these adventures!
Great as always. To answer your question..Why do I walk? I lived in the deep woods for 13 years and due to an accident now live in town. It was a very hard transition. So every weekend I am back to the woods to reconnect. It is mandatory for my sanity. Question: what kind of camera do you use?
+Paula Martin I use a Nikon aw110, (the aw130) is the latest model. It's just a simple point n shoot that is waterproof/freezeproof/shockproof. I'm thinking about upgrading to a gopro for goodweather, and keep the nikon around when it rains, since the audio quality is superior to a gopro when you put the waterproof casing on.
Where did you get your map for Vesuvius from? Debating purchasing one from etrails since I can't find a decent one to download and don't have a gps. Looking to go solo this trail in the next couple weeks since it's only about a 2 hr drive from me. TIA and great video.
"Hiking is like canoeing without a canoe." --Warped Wiseman In truth, I hike and canoe as it's great exercise and it's a blessing to take in God's creation.
I looks like a good place to hide from the cops. I should go there and familarize myself with the area. Where do I find one of those tree hanging sleeper things?
The higher powers used the" force on you" happens way to often to me....I'm between brain farts i'm an artist with a wee bit clothing line (My dream) so if your wondering why i'm always commenting that's why. lol. Aloha Kekoa.
Hey man. I just uploaded my own video of my trip to Lake Vesuvius. Check it out if you have the opportunity! Have been watching your videos for years and finally started my own channel to get in on the fun! Thanks for the great content.

I started backpacking g 3 years ago with my adult sons I LOVE IT! I am 67 years you g and wish I had started years earlier!!
I live 30 min from there. I started hiking when my younger brother passed away 2 years ago. I love being outdoors and taking in nature.
Thank you for sharing the good with the bad!
Right on with wishing we would have found the passion for this stuff earlier!

Really enjoy your hiking videos! Thanks for sharing!!
Keep em' coming! Always enjoy your analysis and color commentary.
Btw brother, your reasons for hiking mirror mine. My 20's were a train wreck, and I need the solitude.
I grew up less than 5 miles from there. Can't tell you how many times I stayed the night under that big rock face fishing with my dad.
Another great video. Thanks for bringing us along on your adventure. It was a lot of fun. :)

BRUTAL trails that roller coaster at grades of 20%. water cisterns at various sites. great Elevation gains, and solitude.
thanks for bringing us on your trips. Oh ya! I backpack to just enjoy life, enjoy the beauty of nature, the quiet, abdominal when with friends, the camaraderie!
and also...NOT ABDOMINAL
+Joe Nungesser I haven't been there yet. I'll put it on the bucket list.
Good thing i stumbled onto this video, I"m doing this trail next month!
+Sean Porter www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprd3792530.pdf
If you are planning to do the same route as me, just get to where I crossed the water at High Bridge, take the left up Aldridge connector then west for a very short time then take your next right back onto the B.P. trail and you should be fine.
+Outdoor Adventures Thanks for the advice! Definitely look forward to it.
Enjoyed the video, haha... Vesuvius is one of my favorite places, but I haven't backpacked there yet. Did the lakeshore trail CCWise last year and we got confused on the north end trying to figure out where to cross. Definitely want to BP there next year!
33:55 thank you for taking the camera and capture it :)
I just got the warbonnet blackbird xlc, its crazy how comfy it is compared to the hennessy explorer.. thanks for the advice about that one!
No problem, Warbonnet makes some great products!
I enjoy your vids. Good job!
Great video. Definitely motivated me to start working on winter gear. I appreciated your "sappy" moment. I agree, we all get out for our own reasons. But we all have one thing in common and that's the love of nature. I subbed and I'm looking forward to watching your other videos. Thanks
+Jason Parrish welcome to the channel my friend.
I did this trail this past new years day, and I believe it was a day or two after it reopened from the controlled burn. So I got lucky! It is a bit of a confusing trail the first time but is one of my favorites in ohio. Nice vid!
Heading there next weekend hope I don't get lost.
Heading there today at 4PM. Its going to be about 65 degrees warmer though.
+R Journey Apparently I missed a lot of stuff up there. I may go back with the girlfriend or something in the fall.
+Outdoor Adventures ahh you're the man. It's still a great video. Thanks a lot
+OutLan I'd be down for something like that. We'll talk more this spring.
Sounds awesome.
awesome videos man, you are really inspiering me to get into this hobby. i also enjoy the solitude, my early 20s were not the greatest as well. this seems like something i would realy enjoy i love to work out and i love to camp, seems like this would be combining them, plus it would be something fun for my dog and i to do together, he would love this.
Get out there a try it. I have a beginner backpacking series on my channel if you haven't seen it yet.
ATB from the UK
Tim o/
Great video! A little dryer than our video, haha
+Nathan Mullins I have a lot on my bucketlist, but would definately like to finish the loop correctly.
Bob
+uptrail71 Thanks uptrail, looking forward to your next one as well.
I have some new areas planned for this summer up north. I'm hoping to get 1 more winter trip in, but it needs stay cool. Also we still plan on going east this summer. I left you a couple comments on facebook. You may not recognize the name, but same pic. Bob
hey frozen you do sound sappy lol but I get it I live not too far from this place and I never knew it was there. gonna go on a backpacking trip here soon to this lake I typically go to wildcat hollow in Ohio but will be going to the dolly sods next mouth thanks for the videos keep it up!
great video!
Why do I hike? I do so to get in better shape, and also (more importantly) to decompress from the stresses of the modern world.
Thanks for another great video. You gotta get yourself a koozie or make one yourself from reflectix for your food. It'll keep it nice and hot for a long time while you let it rehydrate.
+Adam Holbrook Maybe next year. Or when I start repacking my meals. I eat really fast and burn my mouth the entire time anyway.
Haha, I hear ya. I like to let mine sit a long time to allow the contents to rehydrate, hard to be patient after a long day on the trail though. Thanks again for your videos. If you get to come back to Southern Ohio and want to hike part of or the Entire Shawnee Backpacking loop or at Zaleski give me a holler.
can't wait for ur next big video man. coming soon?:)
Hey Frozen,
From about the 33-35 minute mark, I can totally empathize with your reasons for getting into backpacking.
Check outdoor adventures out on facebook. We try and do a meetup every year.
I like your videoes.
That was awesome!
why go hiking great question. i go because there is something so freeing about living with only what you carry on your back.
its so wild how forests look so different all over usa. i live in the cascade mt range on mt hood in oregon. on a volcano. in a rain forest. our forest look so different from state to state. i am only 10 minutes into the video. i will sub to your channel. i am a fellow adventure man and film maker. hello from mt hood oregon. ok enough yapping. on to the video. wild how the water is so dark. what makes it so dark? if your bored and want to see what the forest looks like where i live this time a year i did a video 2 days ago on the zig zag river from glacier run off in the rain forest by my house. peace. you just hit mile marker 5 and i will end my comment so i can focus on the adventure. peace. came back at the end to edit this. you ask why we hike. or go out in nature. just to escape a stressful job. to see nature. to be alone. so many reason. cant think of a reason not to. glad you found your way. fun video. hope you check out my new one just to see how different our forest look.
Small state parks have unreliable information. Drives me nuts.
Thanks for the video. Always enjoy watching them. Where do you get your maps? They are really detailed.
+steven hubler I just search the place I'm going to on Google and usually Google images has what I'm looking for.
Thanks. .. Appreciate it.
ruclips.net/video/7O7kp6OdfiM/видео.html Whole video is about trip planning it says where I get my maps as well.
+Brian Barnett no stire on this trip. Maybe with food and water 18lbs? My 3 season list is linked in the description.
Outdoor Adventures Thanks, man. I should've checked there first
Yep, it can get confusing with the trail intersections.
Yeah man, people disrespect that place like crazy. Locals take it for granted but is a super nice place to go.
It's a shame to go anywhere and see trash laying around but here was just terrible. Great area for a hike though.
What is that orange thing on your shoulder and what kind of pack are you using if you don’t mind me asking
I believe I'm using the osprey exos backback and spot gps in this one.
Wondering why the water is so dark?
+Elexus T snow melt and runoff.
+GottaGo33 Thanks! Glad to hear and happy to help. Make sure to check out sintax77
Are there places to camp on the lake shore trail?
Yes but you might have to go up the hill to find a flat spot.
33:53, good man.
Have you thought of getting a lighter stove? The MSR Pocket Rocket and JetBoil are two choices worth considering.
+Outdoor Adventures- I just bought a small wood burning stove- the PaleoStove. Nice looking with good fit and finish. Have not tried it out yet.
+Mostly Outdoors1 Good the more of us the merrier!
Thanks, I was actually looking at a Gopro session since it is small. Good to know about the audio.
Where did you get your map for Vesuvius from? Debating purchasing one from etrails since I can't find a decent one to download and don't have a gps. Looking to go solo this trail in the next couple weeks since it's only about a 2 hr drive from me. TIA and great video.
+NotAboutMe just from googling it and clicking Google images.
Cool. Thanks

In truth, I hike and canoe as it's great exercise and it's a blessing to take in God's creation.
I live here.
Leave it to Beavers.

I looks like a good place to hide from the cops. I should go there and familarize myself with the area. Where do I find one of those tree hanging sleeper things?
This video is great and all but where is Gary? and why are you barking at the geese>?
+Matt Sherwin More importantly why didn't you go with me!
Not sure what was going on that weekend but dont worry soon
👍👌
The higher powers used the" force on you" happens way to often to me....I'm between brain farts i'm an artist with a wee bit clothing line (My dream) so if your wondering why i'm always commenting that's why. lol. Aloha Kekoa.
I live right beside there and it’s pronounced ped dro
Gotcha thanks. Not being a resident in some areas I just butcher local names sometimes.
Funny: "Like Mickey D's is real food" Go for the oatmeal in the woods is much more living.....
i go hiking to smoke
Is lots-o-trash out there
"back in your twenty s". you surely aren't in your thirtys.
+Robert Tucker I'll take that as a compliment. I'm 32
Hey man. I just uploaded my own video of my trip to Lake Vesuvius. Check it out if you have the opportunity! Have been watching your videos for years and finally started my own channel to get in on the fun! Thanks for the great content.
Cool. I'll check it out
