    Hi Olga!, thank you for this video. This is exactly what I’m wondering about with my roses. Your details are so helpful!! Much love to you and your family.

    The weather is so unpredictable. Today has been constant rain. Tomorrow night will be below freezing. Since I put my David Austin roses in the ground already, I will have to protect them. Thankfully I only have 2 to worry about. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. God bless you and your family.

      @@OlgaCarmody oh I'm excited for you. The last one I received, I actually planted in the rain. 😊 I enjoy watching your videos, you have a calming way of explaining things. God bless and keep you and yours safe.

    Olga, I enjoy your calm approach. You inspire me so much. I enjoy your accent too. So lovely. Prayers to your family in Ukraine. Super helpful to think about the hardiness zones. I am too, tempted to buy based on beauty. We have to use our heads! I just bought Lady of Shallot as a climbing rose. Was thrilled to learn from you that Lady of Shallot is so versatile. Can’t wait for it to get here! ♥️

    The best content on roses I've seen. Great information. I think I've probably killed my 1st rose with the crazy winter we are coming out of but I won't make the same mistakes again. Thank you!

      Your rose might be OK, just give it time before any drastic actions. Happy gardening!

    Dear Olga , all your garden videos are so interesting. O
    I always learn something new. Could you make a video for wild climbing rose ? It would be really appreciated , thanks.

    • @OlgaCarmody
      @OlgaCarmody  2 года назад +1

      I can do that, although I don't have it in my garden. I grew Rosa rugosa, that would be the closest to wild climbers.

    Thank you for your detailed explanations. I am in zone 6 but bordered on 5 in elevation of 6200, so I have to be careful . We had one hour of 34 degrees last week but everything was OK. I'm always wondering about whether to water day before or wait until next day. So I waited until next day. Last few years with little snow and rain makes for a different atmosphere here in southwest. Sunlight is very intense also .

      Yes, you are in Southwest, I am in Northeast! We have very unpredictable spring weather here as well. This season is very cold.Thank you for watching and enjoy your garden!

    I just had 2 weeks of 20C weather and now there will be a week -10C nights and -3C days. All my roses have started growing leaves. I have my roses in pots so I can bring them inside but I can't figure out how to keep them dormant. This happens every year.

    • @OlgaCarmody
      @OlgaCarmody  Год назад +1

      When do you prune your roses?

    • @Meskarune
      @Meskarune Год назад

      @@OlgaCarmody I last cut off spent blooms in september but otherwise don't prune at all. I live in Finland in a high rise apartment with a balcony. I have mini roses. They are barely 20cm high at the tallest and so far haven't needed pruning. The cane tips that the winter kills off usually fall off by themselves before may. I am growing those mini Valentine's day roses you get from the grocery store in 35cm insulated pots. This is my 3rd year with them. They come through the harsh Finnish winter just fine but always start to get leaves too early during a "fools spring" as they call it here.

      @@Meskarune Hm. This is tough one. Those pots heat up during fake spring and give signal to the plant to start growing. Did you try to shade pots from sun in late winter? Dormancy is pretty stable stage and plants don’t have any issues with cold as long as they are hardy, which is the case with your roses. The transition to growing season is tricky. And new weather patterns don’t help at all. I would hide my roses from sun late winter.

    • @Meskarune

      @@OlgaCarmody Oh shade is a good idea! My balcony is south facing and the pots are black. They do get heated up. Thanks so much!

    I’m a new to roses and pruned them a few weeks too early 🫣 We have freezing temperatures at night for the next week at least. Should i simply water, cover at night and hope for the best?

    • @OlgaCarmody
      @OlgaCarmody  Год назад +1

      Hi Melinda, yes, weather is quite unpredictable these days. If you want you can cover them for the night, I don't think they need water right now. You rose will live, it might loose new growth though. In that case, just do correcting pruning after all the danger of frost is over and you see what is dead and what will live. Happy gardening!
