Perfect tone. Funny how everyone's been obsessing with Slash's amp mods over the years when in the end it seems that it was more about the boosting, EQ and cocked wah trick.
Holy guacamole! I think you have nailed the AFD tone. I will always use this as tone reference when trying to get the AFD tone. I think you and Eddie Lenz really nail these AFD tones. Amazing playing too!
great tone, I have the same amp and figured that Slash's tone is all about boosting the mids and treble to a certain sweet spot. I noticed that you roll down the presence knob on the amp, I assume it's because you have the Q Zone engaged right? I try to get his tone boosting the amp with a TS type of drive and usually have to crank the presence knob to get that growl, if I roll the presence down the tone does not get there.
Thanks, Yeah it all depends on how you get the recording and tweak from there, as you said the q zone adds more high end so I need to roll back the amps highs
Finally got me hands on the Fryette Ps2 I'm going to run it with my Sv20 sj20 and dsl40c any recommendations on settings would be hugely appreciated. The flat bright switches confuse me.
Good to know, its great. With the SJ20 it works good for me with the switches on brite and warm, and I usually keep the presence and depth all the way down. The SV20 is a little brighet amp so you can set to flat instead of brite switch and give it a bit more depth to make it sound fuller
So I've watched your videos and they all kick ass. I'm about to buy a new amp and it's between Sv20h Sc20h and the sj 2525 which do you recommend for the appetite stuff? I think this sv20h video sounds best by far.
Thanks, each one sounds different and great, with a boost pedal you can get to that AFD sound with any amp, its all about EQ and mic Position. I have the 2525 and the SV20h and I also want to get back the SC20 cause its awesome. The 2525 is the most versatile amp between the 3 of them. The SV20 doesn't have master volume so you need to open it to about 7-8 and its damn loud without any attenuator, the SC20 is besically the same as the SV20 just with a master volume and a bit more gain, also can get you close to the Use Your Illusion sounds with some added boost pedal. Get one of them and get a dunlop Q zone thats where the tone starts. Rock N' Roll ✌🎩
Thanks The Fryette is connected between the amp and cab, I have an SM57 on one Speaker, the Boss RV500 reverb is connected to the Fryette fx loop instead of the amp. I used Dunlop Q zone in front
I checked out your other videos and noticed that you also have a SC20H emulating the slash tones. If I’m looking for a Nightrain/Welcome to the jungle slash tone, do you reccomend the SV20H or SC20H (I’m perfectly fine with using pedals)?
What!? Well I know Slash ain't a big Plexi guy but good lord this is unreal! And it's a stock one as well! Guess they were right, just EQ any marshall with a Wah pedal, fixed or not, and a Les Paul loaded with Seymour Duncans, get it through some V30s and you got the Slash tone
Do you think this is the same way slash’s Nightrain tone is achieved (cocked wah/q-zone)? Listen to right speaker on Nightrain to hear his tone. Also great playing, thanks!
Hey bud you gave me some great advice on settings for the sv20h... I took your advice and got the studio silver jubilee and would appreciate some settings for that as well if you had a second to help again. Either way thanks man
Thanks. both are great amps but I would choose the 2525c, more versatile amp amd also got clean and lead channels as well as a great FX loop for pedals like Delay/Reverb
Forgot to ask last time... is that freyette power station doing anything to affect the tone other than dropping volume? Like a bright switch ect. Anything like that. I'm getting closer thanks to your help
Hi, It has everything you need to make tge sound much better, if you dont touch any of the switches it doesnt affect the tone at all. Its the best thing money can buy for you amps and cabs. One of the best is that you can choose impedence for both amp and cab, so you can match any amp and cab you want, also has a super transperant FX loop so you dont need to plug the pedals directly into your amp, that way they will sound much better.
So I have the Marshall sv20h top and bottom. I also have the q zone pedal... I'm playing a Gibson Les Paul with no weight relief and Slash pickups. I'm proficient enough to play about 80%of the Gn'R catalog correctly. But I can't for the life of me get the tone that your getting with the same equipment. Any suggesting on Volume levels or tweeks to get there? Appreciate advice brother.
Do you play the amp when it gets crunchy ? And then add the Qzone ? Or with low amp volume and with the Qzone ? Try setting the Qzone like this: Volume - 8-10 Qzone - 1-3 Peak - 1-10 Thats how I use it most of the time.
@@JCMSlash so qzone on volume #s 8-10 Qzone #s 1-3 When you say peak 1-10 you do you mean pretty much anywhere. That's a big range lol Sorry for being a pain in the ass. Just impressed with your work and trying to get on the same page.
Perfect tone. Funny how everyone's been obsessing with Slash's amp mods over the years when in the end it seems that it was more about the boosting, EQ and cocked wah trick.
That's right, No need for mods to get the tone right, Just some tweaks and bit gain and Mids.
You make it look "so easy"
Jesus you nailed it man, well done!

Great playing and tone. Now I want a Q zone pedal for my Jubilee

what pedals are in front? It's impossible to have that sound only with pushin the volume on the head.
Dunlop Q-Zone 🎩

Great tone man!
Thanks
c'mon man! Really nice tone. Gain its all preamp or its boosted with something?
Stock amp using Dunlop Q-Zone
Sounds awesome! What’s the signal chain after the Fryette? Into an interface and DAW?
Thanks
The Fryette is connected between the amp and cab, I have an SM57 on one Speaker, the Boss RV500 reverb is connected to the Fryette fx loop instead of the amp. I used Dunlop Q zone in front
Great job!
What was the EQ (pedal) settings?
Thanks, I used the Dunlop Q Zone.
Volume - Max
Qzone - 9 o'clock
Peak - Max

Both are awesome, but the SC20 got a master volume so its better for use, the sv20 needs to be crancked to get distortion tones.
Awesome tone and playing! If you have a NeuralDSP Quad Cortex, could you do a Neural Capture of this amp?
Thanks, Im not femiliar with the Quad Cortex, but if it has an amp profiler like the kemper than yes you can
Yes a good LP, Marshall and some EQ, Wah, will do it.
O som está perfeito. Parabéns 👍🏿
Do you think this is the same way slash’s Nightrain tone is achieved (cocked wah/q-zone)? Listen to right speaker on Nightrain to hear his tone. Also great playing, thanks!
I think he used some kind of mid boost eq, as adam day said his derig les paul has some midrange and it sounds great
Sorry, I improperly worded my question. I meant will using the Q zone pedal also work well for nightrain like it does for other songs in this video?

have you tried to use fryette as power amp with this amp?
No, Not that sure yet how it goes, also dont know how to use the delay/reverb while using the line out when recording with IR's.
Did you use any eq pedal?
No pedals, the amp has a hotmod that gives more gain.
@@JCMSlash I heard in sweet child o' mine something similar to a delay or something like that.
BTW, does the amp have any reverb on it?
