I was thinking that "always the same ending" refers to Rand leaving her each morning... I suspect she'd much rather be able to convince him to stay and NEVER leave! 😂
I was surprised to hear anybody believes they are shagging IRL. To me it's not where Rand is as a person. Selene works him hard - first in TAR, then in a secluded cottage. It also explains why Selene is so frustrated and Rand so emotionally frigid. But it's all very ambiguous.
@@Swiergotka78 Interesting. I definitely think they are shagging. To me it seems like Rand is probably willing enough in the evening, then has nightmares all night, and every morning is reserved again and ready to just get out of there and on with his day. Selene is helping him forget about Egwene and the friends he will never see again. However, he does not want to dwell on their relationship because he is not particularly proud of his choices or behavior.
@@devlin76 a very plausible interpretation! To me he's far enough for some cuddling but needs time to build up trust and cross "that" bridge and is simply too scared of what's happening to him to go all the way. From character locations to details that we might miss on first watch, you made me appreciate the show more too. These recaps relieve the wait for next episode releases a bit (I can watch these all day long though 😅). Looking forward to other episode recaps!!!
The choice of the name ‘Errol’ for a blademaster feels like a reference to the actor Errol Flynn, who was known for a lot of swashbuckling films, and was taught by Bob Anderson, who was a true blademaster of our world (and did the PJ LOTR sword work). As I’ve said before, I’m not enjoying the show hugely, but I did enjoy Errol, and I *love* your videos because it makes me feel what it would be like to be enjoying the show 😂.
Thanks for pointing out that thread of the power between the enslaved women. I had missed it and thought it might be another change. Glad I only missed seeing it I can't wait to see what they do with that whole situation
I thought the little "I don't want to hurt you" exchange between Rand and Selene was quite clever. Rand of course means he doesn't want to hurt her physically with the One Power. Selene of course knows exactly what he means, but without missing a beat she steers the conversation to emotional hurt. There's a bit of a double meaning there, too, as at this point Rand isn't strong/skilled enough with the One Power to hurt her physically, but he absolutely can still break her heart.
Did you notice the Yellow Sister you pointed out is wearing what looks like a shawl? I don't see a white flame or yellow fringe, but it does have vines and flowers!
Once again Rand surprised himself with his own strength, that seemed clear to me that it was another case of accidentally channelling. he needs to learn control. That's why he's here in the first place.
I agree. And in the books, there is a lot of discussion of holding saidin is like a torrent, so I thought it was just showing that he really needs guidance to start channeling
I just discovered your channel and wanted to THANK YOU so much. This is quality content!! 💯After starting season 2 and loving it so far, I jumped into RUclips to find some in-depth reviews and I was baffled when most of what I found was negative stuff focused on how the show is so different from the books and exaggerated reactions hating on everything (just to cause outrage and attract easy views, I guess).
You're analysis of Rand/Selene is so interesting, so much I didn't pick up on. I love how you're videos are non-spoilery but if you've read the book it's really obvious what you've talking about. I didn't pick up on the manipulation of Rand, you really deepen my appreciation of the show! Amazing video
I absolutely love your unraveling videos watching this one, whenever you say you don't want to spoil my brain goes "spoil spoil spoil" lol but I know you can't. I am not a book reader I have been looking for videos to help me understand the world your videos are the best and helps me understand so much. Thank you for that, patiently looking forward to episode 3 unraveling.
Wow, I already thought you did the best videos on the wheel of Time but you totally upped the bar here. I love the map. I love the allusions to all the really spoiler stuff you won’t get into. But you also found a way to use an arrested development clip, I mean seriously these are my favorite things…
As a book reader this intro to new characters and situations certainly setup wonderful plots to come. The deviations from the books does not yet worry me.
@@musicnosuckOof. You’re so overcome with hatred you can’t even get the author right. I genuinely feel bad for you, friend. Hate is baggage. It’s much healthier to let it go and move on to something you do enjoy.
I think the 'all these nights together and it always ends the same way' was 'selene' referencing her relationship with LTT and how he often left her for the sake of his duty and was only ever temporarily with her
Wow. This is such an amazing unraveling of the episode. Loved it so kuch. Please keep them coming. I have shared this channel with my friends as well who are non book readers as you don't share any spoilers and explain each and every link on the show in great detail.
Just wanna say I think your channel/videos are awesome and you deserve a lot more followers/sponsors. I notice most of the WOT channels don’t seem to have a lot of subscribers which makes me think maybe WOT isn’t as popular as I thought. I still love the books and have enjoyed the shows and I look forward to your videos. I hope your channel blows up and you can make a living from it.

I'm so glad I've found your channel! I noticed at once that these are not just reviews but careful and accurate analysis of a work of art and for me as a philolologist it's like finding water in the desert (the Aiel perhaps =)! As far as I'm preparing my own review and analysis of the series, I'd like to ask your permission to quote some phrases and thoughts from your vids, of course, making all the links and references. Thank you for your meticulous, creative (and very often extremely witty ;) work!
Absolutely loving your in depth reviews picking out the small details I always seem to miss. Also thank you for not bagging out the series like most book readers do, it’s refreshing.
What a great breakdown video. Particularly loved the bit about the color theory element; hadn't noticed either Nynaeve's original clothes nor the crimsonthorn/Red Ajah connection!
I like what they did with Liandrin, Rand and Perrin. Its differrent but its giving charaters more depth which is always a win in my book. I reread the books and Liandrin was just kind of a one-off villian who gets screwed in the end like a bad disney villian(It was satisfying tho!). Rand and Logain interacting is a huge plus, we needed more of that in the books. And Perring just seems to get better and better. I will say that Moiraine was a lot more ruthless to Lan than I would have liked
Ty so much for these videos. I was so apprehensive about this show but youve given me agreat objective overview of what i can expect and it is so much better than the haters made it sound.
Thanks for your excellent analysis of these episodes. I am really warming up to these characters in this season and reviewing every episode with you is really helpful. Keep up the great work!
perrin is already next to falme at the end of episode 2, while Rand is still with Selene almost on the other Side of the map. perrin needed 6months on horseback to get to atuans mill so Rand has to catch up somehow! i think we will see the portal stone :)
People complaining that Rand wouldn't be this violent this early on seem to have forgotten what he does to that group of darkfriends he encounters in TDR.
Uh, one critique though... I would NOT have made those little hints about a certain someone who seems to know too much. Like, you all but asserted they were a darkfriend. I don't think I can recommend this video to people who haven't read all the books now - ruining "your dress is green" is the worst possible spoiler imo. I know everyone had theories back in the day, but it hits different when a book reader who knows what happens makes a suggestion like that.
@maxsilva11 um... we speculated about that certain someone for years before we found out the truth. I was just trying to remind people to be on the look out. From Moiraine's pov, Verin is suspicious at this point.Future episodes will make it clear Verin is good. Speculation and spoiler are not the same.
I had actually successfully forgotten that particular plot twist (read the books in college, rereading along with the show), and do kinda think this otherwise-excellent video kinda "tips it's hand" a bit much in pointing things out with that character. :
I was thinking the same thing. There is a lot of stuff here that is presented as "hey, keep an eye on this" that is essentially a spoiler but just not presented that way. Just telling somone to watch for something or pay attention to something that isn't yet focused on in the show or book just leads them to predicting things they shouldn't yet. It is like watching Citizen Kane with someone who has never seen it and pointing to Kane riding his sled as a kid and saying "hey, remember this. it is important."
22:36 I had first interpreted that as saying (in certain matters at least) each Ajah had one vote rather than each sitter voting, like how in the US in some circumstances State Delegations have one vote rather than each Representative having their own. Thought I suppose the Warder thing does make more sense.
As for Mat possibly stabbing Rand, it would be the fulfillment of the pact they made to each other when they saw Logain in season 1! Awesome Unraveling as always P.S. The channel MRVL BROs is always watching these with us since he's a "Never Reader" and he LOVES them!! Tai'shar Unraveling!
16:15 "ball gag-looking pacifiers" 🤣 Tell me you're not a fan of the show's a'dam without telling me you're not a fan of the show's a'dam. Absolutely savage 😂
I rewatched ep4 again last night and ws too tired to properly check but i swear a similar little horse was on the mantlepiece in Mo's room during the chat with Anvaere. I also still cant grasp the significance...
Interesting show. Just started watching it. Btw, anyone know what the song is playing in S2 E3, strangers and friends? It starts at 19:00. Please let me know. Love that song. I tried picking it up w/my Google mic, and nothing.
Thank you for another great breakdown. I did not reallise there was a location map available for the episodes and was wondering about some of the locations. On the issues of stilled women not being able to see flows of the One Power in the books it was my understanding someone who has been burned out can’t sense the One Power but someone severed can still sense the power but can’t touch it which is likely even more frustrating than being burned out. I don’t recall it being expressly addressed in the book but if someone who was stilled can still sense the OP would it not make sense they could also sense the flows?
I don't remember either. I just assumed I was right, and that "stilled" means sense but not see weaves. "Burned out" definitely means they can no longer sense or see weaves. Now I'm starting to second guess myself about whether or not someone who is stilled can see weaves or not, but I feel like they can't. Surely Siuan describes it at some point.
It's a great explanation that Ishy is manipulating Rand in the dreams - the whole beating up scene is so very uncharacteristic for Rand. I just wish they made it more explicit. Same with Selene - I also believe they aren't actually sleeping together until it happens in the dreams and then in the cottage later on. Poor Lanfear, finally she's got Rand in the sheets, only to get stabbed by Moirain! The girl really has bad luck in romance 😅
@@UnravelingthePattern in Ch. 2 of the BWB , it explains the mechanics of the Power; and stilled people can still sense the Source . Nothing is said about losing their ability to see weaves. Would be good if we can find a canon example one way or the other
Lauren. In another video, will you discuss the significance of 8 channelers needed to cut off someone from the one source in the show vs the number 13 in the books? You mentioned this briefly in this video but did not explain it's significance.
If I recall correctly, Matt does not acquire his luck, languages, and memories until after his visit to Rhuidean and is hanged and rescued by Rand. Mat is my favorite character in the books.
Close! Mat's luck kicks in in book 3 after he is fully healed from the dagger in Tar Valon. He goes through the doorways and gets the memories in book 4.
Lauren, this was the first episode I've seen where I disagreed with your choice to discuss Verin's motivations. You presented the material expertly. However, I still believe it is too spoilery to discuss this early in the series.
That's fair, but I disagree. Right from Verin's first introduction in the books (book 2) fans were discussing her true motives. I'm just trying to add fuel to the theory fires. Also, from what I've seen in upcoming episodes, Verin's motives seem a bit more clear. EDIT: I'm also convinced the Aes Sedai at the social was NOT Verin, so... I'm trying to throw people off a bit.
I think the show’s producers decided to leave off a map so it doesn’t seem like they are copying GoT, but I do think a map would be helpful, but admittedly difficult to incorporate.
@@UnravelingthePatternyeah, I suspect you're right. But it wouldn't be outside the realm of possibility that they could already be dropping little hints. Even so, while I can maybe buy into screen Selene owning an inn (even a run down one). I'm not sure she would ever do manual labor. 😂 so there's that...
Moiraine reached for a knife when talking to Verin. Either she is stilled and her Oaths are broken or she would consider Verin a darkfriend. I cannot find another explanation.
@@UnravelingthePattern and what was her plan? reach for a knife and verbally threaten Verin? As an Aes Sedai she doesn't have a habit of reaching for a knife. Ever since she took 3 Oaths she stopped reaching for a knife because she has never been able to use it. After episode 5 I put it in "errors" category
A lot of this stuff never happened in the books. Rand met Selene in an alternate world (saves her life) and she ended up joining his group (Loial & Hurin) (The Great Hunt). He then meets her again in Cairhein. Rand was the first to meet Min (Baerlon), and Mat's story is pretty much non-existent compared with the books. When he was at the White Tower being healed( Shadar Logoth dagger) he bested Galad and Gawyn in a 2 vs. 1 fight. He used a staff against their swords. No mention of that in the show. So many inconsistencies with this show. It makes it hard for someone who has read the books (several times) to follow.
Good question. The rings in the show are quite different from those in the books. In the books the Aes Sedai rings are all the same; a golden serpent biting its own tail, with now jewel. We don't know what happens to the jewel in the show. Presumably the Warder takes the jewel out before melting the ring and gives it back to the Sister's Ajah or maybe keeps it.
If the rumors about them getting Shohreh Aghdashloo to play Cadsuane are true, I will lose my shit entirely, in the best way possible. You _know_ they want Shorheh for Cadsuane, she'd be absolutely perfect casting
What did you think of this episode? I loved it!
I feel like Mat stabbing Rand will be a 'flicker' scene. We're not getting portal stones, but that's too iconic to not do.

Thanks! Love you! ❤️
I think that the metal horse (and the horse and rider to its right) are because Errol is a cavalry officer.
Good call!
Thank you.
Love these explanations. Hard to follow since I haven't read the books. ALSO, I DONT SEE EPISODE 3 and 4 explanations? 😢
These videos are so helpful, but where are the explanations for episodes 3 and 4?
16:15 "ball gag-looking pacifiers" 🤣 Tell me you're not a fan of the show's a'dam without telling me you're not a fan of the show's a'dam. Absolutely savage 😂
I rewatched ep4 again last night and ws too tired to properly check but i swear a similar little horse was on the mantlepiece in Mo's room during the chat with Anvaere. I also still cant grasp the significance...
I am following your breakdown videos with great interest 😮.
However - I am missing episode - S2 E1 EXPLAINED.
Will this be uploaded ❓❓
All the best 🙏
It's out! Check my channel history!
Loved this video, thank you 😊
Interesting show. Just started watching it. Btw, anyone know what the song is playing in S2 E3, strangers and friends? It starts at 19:00. Please let me know. Love that song. I tried picking it up w/my Google mic, and nothing.
I imagine whatever the song is, it's part of the WoT S2 soundtrack by Lorne Balfe.
In the books, people who are stilled can still see weaves, and sense the Source. They just can't touch it. It's burnout where they can't see it .
Are you sure? I don't think stilled people can see weaves
Citation needed
@@UnravelingthePattern in Ch. 2 of the BWB , it explains the mechanics of the Power; and stilled people can still sense the Source . Nothing is said about losing their ability to see weaves. Would be good if we can find a canon example one way or the other
@@Wolfinator234 sense the Power, yes. See the weaves, I don't think so.
Lauren. In another video, will you discuss the significance of 8 channelers needed to cut off someone from the one source in the show vs the number 13 in the books? You mentioned this briefly in this video but did not explain it's significance.
All in good time 😊
If I recall correctly, Matt does not acquire his luck, languages, and memories until after his visit to Rhuidean and is hanged and rescued by Rand. Mat is my favorite character in the books.
Close! Mat's luck kicks in in book 3 after he is fully healed from the dagger in Tar Valon. He goes through the doorways and gets the memories in book 4.
What is the awesome music that plays at time 30 min in this episode called?
It feels like S2 is the season of the darkfriend - nowhere and no one is safe
@@UnravelingthePattern Yes, I definitely appreciate adding fuel to the fire to get more than WOT reader amped up for the production
I am thinking of reading the books. Is it a good investment of time? Or is the show good enough?😊
Books are awesome and totally worth it!
@@UnravelingthePattern I just found your channel after watching season 1. Great stuff and I subbed. Gotta learn everything about these characters!
@@tj817you're in for a treat! Welcome!
I think the show’s producers decided to leave off a map so it doesn’t seem like they are copying GoT, but I do think a map would be helpful, but admittedly difficult to incorporate.
Wish the show utilized maps more
Me too!
Kinda loving Liandrin
Was it just me, or did the novice Nynaeve talked to in passing look like a 'younger' version of Salene? Would be a cool book detail if so...
That would be cool, but I think that might be coming later or not at all. She seemed too occupied with Rand to be in Tar Valon
Reaching for your knife is not the same as using it. Also, the oath is to never use the One Power as a weapon. There is no Oath against using a knife.
Errol looks abit like his dad
Where does one find this awesome map?!
Search "Dimension Door Wheel of Time map" and you should be able to find it!
😢 I couldn't find episode 3 & 4 explanation, feeling like huge loss, we get to understand 10x here than the actual episodes
I haven't been able to do them yet! Sorry! I'm working on them!
Yep, I know.
what happens to the jewel in the serpent ring when a sister passes?
Did you see the recent WoTUp! video about that? She isn't going to be Cadsuane 😬
Hi why cant I find episode 3 explained?
Potential spoilers, but what if Rand charges Errol with training his Ashaman with the sword at the Black Tower? That would be a good payoff!
I'd love that!
Wondering ehere your ep 3 and 4 vids are?
Not out yet. I skipped ahead to get current but they will be out as soon as I can make them!
