We're from Alabama and we love this place. It is very authentic. There is another place in Huntsville that is called Hildegards German Cuisine & it is very good as well.
We're glad to hear that you enjoy Ol Heidelberg. Perhaps we ordered the wrong items or went on an off day. We may try Hildegards the next time we're in the area. We hope that you're having a nice weekend, Martha.
Good morning, perfect day to watch your videos...I also have german heritage and that food looked really tasty....I love the way Henry said pickle...those are two very special boys you have.. love your channel....❤️🙏🌻🥰
Brent, I was surprised to hear Henry giving out a sweet tea alert! Really enjoyed your video. Everyone's food looked so good. And as always loved the boys reviews and they just made my day! Hope y'all are having a wonderful and blessed weekend. Love y'all and God Bless!❤️
We were surprised that Henry gave a sweet tea alert too. He's never done that until Ol Heidelberg, so it must've been great. We hope that you're having a wonderful weekend, Carla. We love you too and God bless.
Did you ever try Schmidt in Columbus ohio u would really ❤❤it well deserved about your dinners look yummy and delicious ty 4 taking us with you sending tons of support hugs ❤❤❤and paws power 😊
Thanks for your honest opinions of the German restaurant; German food can be hit or miss in our dining experiences. Gentry is spot-on with his comment about the cleanliness of bathrooms, and gotta love Henry’s sweet tea alert! It’s apparent that you need to step up your home applesauce game!?
That is a very true statement. We will definitely try other German restaurants, but will not be returning to this location. Yes - we often wonder about the cleanliness of the kitchen if the restrooms are unkept. lol - you aren't kidding! - It sounds like we need to re-work our applesauce recipe lol. Thanks for watching, Dave!
We’re German heritage and have traveled to Germany lots. We love German food, but like one commenter said, it can be bland. My husband prefers it that way and is a basic brats, pretzels and spaetzle guy. I love German potato salad (it’s served warm) and red cabbage. I’ve made homemade spaetzle and usually use Gouda and/or Swiss when I do. We just prefer those cheeses. Thanks for the video, your boys are adorable, and I encourage you to try a few more German restaurants when you can. 🇩🇪 😊
Next time you are in Columbus, Ohio, you have to go to Schmidt's Sausage Haus in German Village. Probably one of the best German restaurants in the Midwest. Open since 1886. I guarantee is better than this restaurant. Plus, they have world famous cream puffs for dessert. Also, try the bahama mama sausage. Maybe take the kids to the world famous Columbus Zoo or COSI (science museum). Go Buckeyes!
Thanks for the recommendations, Jeff. We've been to the Columbus Zoo, but Henry was too little to remember it. Another trip is definitely in our future. Brent used to visit COSI when he was younger and talks so highly about it. We'll have to stop by Schmidt's for lunch. We hope that you're having a great weekend and Go Buckeyes!!
Does Henry know his ‘woot’ is a mandatory feature now in your intro? Of course Gentry is a seasoned pro with doing his part & his two 👍🏻up. Henry gave us a good 8 in jump in the other video you guys uploaded afterwards 😂
Their prices are pretty high compared to pre Covid and you needed gravy on the shnitzel. They didn't used to charge extra for bread...pretty disappointing. We might return but unsure..used to be a treat.
We've added it to our list of places to try. Brent's brother lives in Virginia and the next time we're in the state, we may try to make a trip to the Bavarian Chef. Thanks for the recommendation, Laurie.
LOL!! Henry knows his applesauce like Gentry knows mac and cheese...lol! Too cute! This looks so good. One of my closest girlfriends is from Germany. She has introduced me to several of her family's dishes and they are all good. German food seems to be much more bland that what we are used to here in the south. The flavor seems to be more from the sauces and cheese than the meat. I would love to know how to make that cucumber salad. I bet it was amazing. It sounds like something that would be wonderful when the cucumbers are fresh out of the garden. I also grow dill and fresh is definitely best. Gentry's bathroom report was notable. No matter the restaurant's food, if the bathrooms are not clean the whole experience is ruined. Good tea and clean bathrooms are a must! Hope ya'll are having a great time.
The ranch was so good! The bread and cucumber salad was our favorite part of the meal. We bet it would be incredible with the fresh dill from your garden. You said it best - southern food is so much more flavorful. Henry is definitely picky with his apple sauces 😂 but really enjoyed theirs. We hope that you’re having an amazing weekend, Cathy!
We would love to make it up to Michigan one day and check out Frankenmuth. We've heard so many things about Bronners and want to check that out as well. We hope that you're having an awesome weekend, G5
@EveryDayIsSaturdayTV Sitting here with my fam watching the BBs Bistro vlog, so you know it's a great weekend. God bless y'all. Amazing parents, awesome kids...God is soooo good. 🫶🏽🙏🏽
Thanks for taking us along. They do have some creative offerings. I think the bread charge is stupid-just make it part of the meal like chips and salsa at a Mexican restaurant and charge accordingly. I think you would have enjoyed the Jaeger Schnitzel-try it sometime somewhere. I was also amazed the menu didn’t offer Sauerbraten-a German mainstay.
We agree - the bread charge was surprising. There's a Mexican restaurant in Gatlinburg that we used to enjoy but now they charge for chips and salsa. We couldn't believe it. We will definitely try another German restaurant at some point in the future and will check out a Jaeger Schnitzel - thanks for the recommendation. We hope that you're having a great weekend, Bill.
Thanks for the clarification, Lynn. When we asked the waiter what Roqeufort cheese is, he incorrectly informed us that it was a variety of Swiss cheese.
My mama's family is German too and we had onion in ours. I still make it every holiday. I always order Weiner Schnitzel....probably spelled that wrong but holy cow I want Jennifer's order. Roquefort cheese isn't swiss tho, is a bleu cheese. There's a fantastic German restaurant down in Jasper, IN. Hey Henry are you turning into a sauce boy????
We will definitely be in search of another German restaurant in the future. There’s one in Nashville but the reviews are not the greatest. Thanks for clarifying that about Roquefort cheese. We only based it off of what the waiter told us but we also think that he may have been new to the position. The next time we’re up in Indiana, we will add the one in Jasper to our list. We need to get up that way again to stop by Lou Malnati’s. We hope that you’re having an amazing weekend, Candace!
I’ve got German heritage too so some of the dishes look and sound familiar. spaetzle is a german egg noodle so you definitely were right with the egg taste. my mom makes little ones and puts it in soup- kind of a chicken and dumpling soup.
We are hopeful to make a trip to Sugarcreek in the fall of 2025. If that trip comes to fruition, we will definitely be trying out the cheeses. Thank you for the recommendations, Heather. We hope that you're having a nice weekend.
Hi Donald! We’ve been on the search for a good German restaurant in TN. There’s one in Nashville close to the Grand Ole Opry, but we’ve never tried it because the reviews are really low. We’ll continue to be on the lookout. Thanks for watching, Donald. We hope that you have a great weekend.
@@EveryDayIsSaturdayTV Clarksville TN has a German bakery and a small cafe/deli. They have burgers, sandwiches, pizza, soups and salads It's called Silkes Old World Breads Bakery. Check them out online. I also heard that the restaurant in Nashville is a place where tourists go.
I saw an episode of man vs food a few years ago with Casey web and he went and did a food review at a German restaurant in Columbus Ohio I forget the name of it though but I think it was near Ohio state university
You would likely really enjoy this place. It wasn’t our favorite but we may have ordered the wrong items. Thanks so much for watching, Michael! We appreciate you.

My wife and I prefer Hildegard's to Ol Heidelberg, as well.
CHEERS!
Looks great! Jarlsberg is a type of swiss cheese and roquefort is a type of blue cheese.
That is correct and It is made from sheep's milk.
Thanks for the clarification. When we asked the waiter what Roqeufort cheese is, he incorrectly informed us that it was a variety of Swiss cheese.
Henry has my wife and I cracking up over the applesauce. Jennifer needs to step her applesauce game!
lol, it definitely sounds that way.
Ya'll need to go to Rosie's Mexican in Huntsville! The BEST Mexican around! A hot spot in Huntsville!

Roquefort is a blue cheese variety from France. It has a blue mold like blue cheese. It is not a variety of Swiss.
Menu listed both cheeses. So Swiss and Roquefort.

Thank you, James!! We really appreciate it.
So expensive! I haven’t been there in years but entrees use to be $10-12.

King Ludwig is the absolute best!
Oh no, mustard is not for the Schnitzel. It's for the sausage. 😅
It may have not been designed to be paired with the Scnitzel, but trust me, the mustard was very necessary to make it edible lol.
Nothing looked appealing to me
And if not a clean b room ,that would be a very important part of dining out. 😮

i have decided german food is fairly bland.
I agree, generally speaking. I do like schnitzel, but it’s certainly not groundbreaking in taste.
We agree, Beth. The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't something that we would enjoy eating on a regular basis.
Yup- I’ve eaten my fair share of German restaurants & I’m certainly not the decision maker in going there.
