Finally bit the bullet and bought the Top. I am listening for my first time today at work, I just did the unboxing and plugged them in. Wow they are pretty amazing. I've been just casually listening to "Riding with King" by Eric Clapton & BB King. It is so easy to just get lost in the music. I will do some critical listening later tonight. I am going to put the Kinera Leyding cable on mine. That has become my go-to cable for more expensive IEMs with just so-so cables. Thanks as usual for the awesome review. So far, my friend, you are spot on with this one! (all of them really)

I recently received these. I enjoyed the review. I'm new with all of this stuff. I recently purchased a Fiio M11 plus. Opted for a pair of FH5s . Thought that would be the end of it. Then figured out I really needed a pair of Focal Clears, as they are going for a seemingly great price. I got a brand new pair for 790. Anyways.....I really liked the above review. I read the comments. Bought them.......wow. I absolutely love these. This is what I was after. I am putting them through all kinds of genre workouts. I'm happy with them. @@iyervenki Do try the BQEYZ Winter. It greatly complements the AFUL P5. It has more accurate tonality, clear vocals and treble performance is really something to cherish here, due to the amazing implementation of the Bone conduction driver, I suppose. I wish Mr. Dave reviews both these sets.

Trying to decide between this and the moondrop variations. I have the blessing 2 (non dusk) which I add eq too in order to increase the bass and tame tendency to be shouty. Any advice?

I just bought a pair of these during linsouls summer same and they fixed the cinch 😅. Guess they listened or maybe I got lucky with my unit .I also agree the cable is not great but I suppose it’s usable and they do sound fantastic
Dave, I'm considering these (used) along with Hype2 and Hype 4 new. They all graph within my preferences, and they can all be driven by my MB Air or iPhone dongle. You really liked these... it's been over a year now. Do you still like them compared to the two Thieaudio I mention? I'm currently satisfied with Olina SE, and didn't like the AFUL P5. I'm looking for a little more air and detail, though still relaxed, up top than a single DD like the Olina can provide.

Just got them a couple of days ago, and I have to say I was on the fence if I had made a good decision--- after a lot of tip swapping, I finally found the sound! Wow, I am REALLY happy with them. Could not find the low end extension but now have. That really took the rest of the replay to another level. Not that bass is the most important to me, but it is a really crucial part of the listening experience. Really well done. Thanks again, I love these. These are just flat out awesome.

Hi Dave, I am in big dillema. How are Tops dealing with metal, psy rock, grunge type of music, stage wise, details, separation and weight in mids, compared to Hype 4 and SA6MK2. Which one would you pick for that application? Thanks in advance.
I've not heard the SA6 mk2. For those genres of music listed, the Top would be my pick. The Hype 4 can do them decent but the the Top brings out those genres more engaging and fun.
I agree, out of curiosity I took them. I can tell you they sound very natural and have a very chilled listen, I love the bass. The only thing that makes me turn up my nose is that the sound seems very far away, I don't know how to explain it, it's a sensation that I don't like very much. In my opinion if you have a very chill library (jazz, classic music etc...) they are excellent

Hey Dave, how do you think xenns top handle guitar driven genres such as classic rock / metal? Or maybe, are there better alternatives for it (at the same price range)?
Should get mine over the weekend. Wanted something different, and quite often these companies punch about the weight. The sound seems to be right up my street too cannot wait. Needed a good set of IEMs to go with my Hiby R6 V3 as I only have crap ones or my Tin Hifi P1's which are bloody difficult to drive.

The Blessing 2 lacks the bass of the Top, also it isn't as full bodied, doesn't have as good of tone and timbre, detail retrieval is just a little less, resolution is prettly close with edge to the Top, stage is slightly wider and the Blessing 2 has moments of hotness in the treble. The Top is an upgrade to the Blessing 2.

The nozzle on the Blessing 2 is uncomfortable after a while, and so I end up listening to the Kato and S12 more often because I can wear them longer. (Of course, they both sound great too.)
I have a query, if u would be kind enough to answer it. I am confused between this and fiio fh 9. Top priority for me would be vocals. someone said that fh9 has metallic vocals and lacks heft, is that correct? Which ones should i go for. Currently I am using fh 7 which I love.

If memory serves me correctly the FH9 is more airy and doesn't have as much note weight. The Top has more bass impact and extension and is not as peaky in the mids and treble. The Top is more fun leaning but still has the detail and retrieval to go with it.
Sweet review of the Top, It seems I would like the Top as well, the Variations is almost close to the Top's price point, hoping to get the Top down the road
I've been very impressed with the tribred sets that I've listened to (Clairvoyance and Mest Mk2). However I tend to find incoherency when crossing over between driver types. Primarily the timbre difference between DD, BA and EST. DD typically being the most natural, BA being quicker and a bit plasticy, and ESTs being the fastest but kind of wispy. Do you find this issue on this set when compared with all BA or single DD sets?
I had no issues with the tone and timbre. I do understand your concerns and mostly agree that DD have best natural tone and timbre. I find that Knowles BA struggle a lot with natural reproduction. The Top has Sonion BA and I find them to be more accurate for a BA.

@@magik97 Dont know if you ever ended purchasing but I’m putting it here in case someone ever stumbles on this. The Xenns is a more fun take on the Variations which is great if that’s what you’re in the mood for, however the Xenns loses out drastically in technicalities and overall detail retrieval, I felt that the Variations with minor eq is significantly better than the Xenns, I tried eqing the Xenns but it wasn’t the same ever after spending quite some time on the EQ for both. Like the HonestAudiophile says below they are more complementary than anything else but if you get something like the Qudelix and EQ the Variations they are truly endgame IEMs, in fact even without EQ if you just switch the tips to something like the final type e clear / red tips you get a more pronounced mid bass while not losing out on the other frequencies and it’s almost the same as the EQ. I gave the Xenns to a family member who’s getting into IEMs because honestly after the tips + EQ I don’t really think I’ll ever need another pair of IEMs ever again as long as I have these. That’s all the thoughts I can really say, feel free to reach out if you or anyone else has questions and I’ll do my best to answer them
Hey, which iem is an upgrade from mangird tea 2 under $700? I don't want analytical sound, I prefer rich/warm while keeping the clarity. Tea 2 is bit too analytical/bright if I listen at medium volume it's boring.
I’m looking for something neutral and clean and wondered how will this fair against the studio 4? I’m a musician that will also use this for onstage monitoring. Have u tried the thieaudio monarch mk2 and if that just outperforms both studio 4 and top for onstage monitoring and casual listening for neutral clean sound sig? Appreciate your help!

Respect to these IEM makers for continually pushing the envelope but seriously, how much more expensive does a $1000 IEM cost to make compared to a $20 one? A few more bucks? The profit margins must be insane.
Your review is spot on! I was an early purchaser of the Top because of my experience with the og Tea. Getting a 20% off deal during BF/CM didn’t hurt either!😊 The biggest compliment I can give to them is that they just convey the music in a manner that makes you lose track of time. There been more than a few times with them that I’ve sat down to listen to them critically only to come out of a trance several songs later with zero mental notes on their sonics. I just kinda got lost in the music! About the only thing that I was mildly disappointed with was the cable. Don’t get me wrong. It’s performance is stellar and I get why it was paired with the Top, but it just seems underwhelming in appearance based on the price of the package. I was just expecting something more substantial. It is very, on-the-go friendly though! I’m just starting to play around with cable swapping. It’s early in the game but I think that it’s safe to say that the resolving nature of the Top is making it a very interesting experiment!

I always end up replacing the cable no matter what iem it is, very little seldom do I keep the stock ones. The best brand in my opinion for price and performance is XINHS on Aliexpress, talk to him and you can discuss the exact type of cable you want. Connectors, plug terminations and even down to core braids and thickness of each strand for the cable. Also color of cables (and terminals) are a lot to choose from, mixing copper with dark brown is my favorite look and he does this all with reasonable pricing. The average is 20-30ish but can get up to 70$ for the thickest cables and interchangeable plugs. Other than that I would have to choose Kbear while the cheapest but still trusted is TRN and QKZ. Third TR
@@TheHonestAudiophile Effect Audio cable are unreasonably expensive in my opinion. There are a lot of cheaper options out there that will give you the same performance. AliExpress is an excellent option especially when they have 11.11, BF/CM or the upcoming Chines New Year deals. I have no experience with XINHS cables but my favorite is SYRNARN cables. I also love the IKKO CTU01 replacement cables. On the cheaper side, I like the Tripowin Altea and Noire.
@pinanongsangaroon5899 Top has more detail retrieval and resolution, better depth and layering. The Timeless is a solid IEM but the Top is better performer with technical abilities.

The Top isn't a stage monitor but more an All-Arounder, Fun listen. The SoftEars Studio4 is a true stage monitor for vocalists in my opinion.

Hey Dave, how do you think xenns top handle guitar driven genres such as classic rock / metal? Or maybe, are there better alternatives for it (at the same price range)?
I think the Top is very good with those genres.
Should get mine over the weekend. Wanted something different, and quite often these companies punch about the weight. The sound seems to be right up my street too cannot wait. Needed a good set of IEMs to go with my Hiby R6 V3 as I only have crap ones or my Tin Hifi P1's which are bloody difficult to drive.

Thanks, Dave. I was really looking forward to your review, because the Top is high on my wishlist. I know that you love the Moondrop Blessing 2; how would you say that they compare? (I'm sure that the Top has more bass.)
The Blessing 2 lacks the bass of the Top, also it isn't as full bodied, doesn't have as good of tone and timbre, detail retrieval is just a little less, resolution is prettly close with edge to the Top, stage is slightly wider and the Blessing 2 has moments of hotness in the treble. The Top is an upgrade to the Blessing 2.
@@TheHonestAudiophile That’s very helpful. The Blessing 2 has been my benchmark for a while, but I’ve always wanted a bit more bass and body to the tone. Sounds like the Top checks all the boxes!

@@TheHonestAudiophile I’m going to have to save up for a while, but I’ll get back to you! I was also glad that you mentioned the comfort. The nozzle on the Blessing 2 is uncomfortable after a while, and so I end up listening to the Kato and S12 more often because I can wear them longer. (Of course, they both sound great too.)

I have a query, if u would be kind enough to answer it. I am confused between this and fiio fh 9. Top priority for me would be vocals. someone said that fh9 has metallic vocals and lacks heft, is that correct? Which ones should i go for. Currently I am using fh 7 which I love.

To be honest, I don't recall a lot about it. If memory serves me correctly the FH9 is more airy and doesn't have as much note weight. The Top has more bass impact and extension and is not as peaky in the mids and treble. The Top is more fun leaning but still has the detail and retrieval to go with it.
Which one will you prefer disregarding the price between monarch mk2 vs mangrid top. Thank you because im having difficulty due to the reviews.

I've been very impressed with the tribred sets that I've listened to (Clairvoyance and Mest Mk2). However I tend to find incoherency when crossing over between driver types. Primarily the timbre difference between DD, BA and EST. DD typically being the most natural, BA being quicker and a bit plasticy, and ESTs being the fastest but kind of wispy. Do you find this issue on this set when compared with all BA or single DD sets?
I had no issues with the tone and timbre.
I do understand your concerns and mostly agree that DD have best natural tone and timbre. I find that Knowles BA struggle a lot with natural reproduction. The Top has Sonion BA and I find them to be more accurate for a BA.

They compliment each other more than an upgrade.
@@magik97 Dont know if you ever ended purchasing but I’m putting it here in case someone ever stumbles on this. The Xenns is a more fun take on the Variations which is great if that’s what you’re in the mood for, however the Xenns loses out drastically in technicalities and overall detail retrieval, I felt that the Variations with minor eq is significantly better than the Xenns, I tried eqing the Xenns but it wasn’t the same ever after spending quite some time on the EQ for both. Like the HonestAudiophile says below they are more complementary than anything else but if you get something like the Qudelix and EQ the Variations they are truly endgame IEMs, in fact even without EQ if you just switch the tips to something like the final type e clear / red tips you get a more pronounced mid bass while not losing out on the other frequencies and it’s almost the same as the EQ. I gave the Xenns to a family member who’s getting into IEMs because honestly after the tips + EQ I don’t really think I’ll ever need another pair of IEMs ever again as long as I have these. That’s all the thoughts I can really say, feel free to reach out if you or anyone else has questions and I’ll do my best to answer them

Hey, which iem is an upgrade from mangird tea 2 under $700? I don't want analytical sound, I prefer rich/warm while keeping the clarity. Tea 2 is bit too analytical/bright if I listen at medium volume it's boring.

Respect to these IEM makers for continually pushing the envelope but seriously, how much more expensive does a $1000 IEM cost to make compared to a $20 one? A few more bucks? The profit margins must be insane.

Your review is spot on! I was an early purchaser of the Top because of my experience with the og Tea. Getting a 20% off deal during BF/CM didn’t hurt either!😊
The biggest compliment I can give to them is that they just convey the music in a manner that makes you lose track of time. There been more than a few times with them that I’ve sat down to listen to them critically only to come out of a trance several songs later with zero mental notes on their sonics. I just kinda got lost in the music!
About the only thing that I was mildly disappointed with was the cable. Don’t get me wrong. It’s performance is stellar and I get why it was paired with the Top, but it just seems underwhelming in appearance based on the price of the package. I was just expecting something more substantial. It is very, on-the-go friendly though!
I’m just starting to play around with cable swapping. It’s early in the game but I think that it’s safe to say that the resolving nature of the Top is making it a very interesting experiment!

I always end up replacing the cable no matter what iem it is, very little seldom do I keep the stock ones. The best brand in my opinion for price and performance is XINHS on Aliexpress, talk to him and you can discuss the exact type of cable you want. Connectors, plug terminations and even down to core braids and thickness of each strand for the cable. Also color of cables (and terminals) are a lot to choose from, mixing copper with dark brown is my favorite look and he does this all with reasonable pricing. The average is 20-30ish but can get up to 70$ for the thickest cables and interchangeable plugs.
Other than that I would have to choose Kbear while the cheapest but still trusted is TRN and QKZ.

@@TheHonestAudiophile Effect Audio cable are unreasonably expensive in my opinion. There are a lot of cheaper options out there that will give you the same performance. AliExpress is an excellent option especially when they have 11.11, BF/CM or the upcoming Chines New Year deals. I have no experience with XINHS cables but my favorite is SYRNARN cables. I also love the IKKO CTU01 replacement cables. On the cheaper side, I like the Tripowin Altea and Noire.

I only have og S12 not the Pro. The main difference is tone and timbre. The Top sounds more natural and accurate.

@pinanongsangaroon5899 Top has more detail retrieval and resolution, better depth and layering. The Timeless is a solid IEM but the Top is better performer with technical abilities.

If I didn't mention 3rd party tips in the video then I haven't tried any. I use the stock tips with the Top.

Hard to compare IEM to headphone but it is kinda a similar presentation to an Audeze LCD-2 Closed.

Unfortunately I can't trust C-product enough to pay this price. Things are getting better with them, but max 150 to 200.
I wish this (and a lot of iem's!) came in a clear resin version instead of black, imo clear resin looks so much more pro and blends in better on stage plus you can see all the technology inside... 🥸👍
I agree that clear resin is best for stage but these classy color designs are great. But if I was using an IEM on stage I'd use clear.
