- Over the past few years, Paul Dano has established himself as one of the best actors of his generation and someone that can morph into any role. While most people will immediately remember his work in Paul Thomas Anderson’s There Will Be Blood and Little Miss Sunshine, he’s also great in Denis Villeneuve’s Prisoners, Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave, Kelly Reichardt’s Meek’s Cutoff, Paul Weitz’s Being Flynn (opposite Robert De Niro), Ruby Sparks, Looper, and many more. With his latest film, director Paolo Sorrentino’s new drama Youth now playing in limited release, I recently landed an exclusive video interview with the gifted actor.
During our wide-ranging conversation, he talked about his most memorable days from filming Youth (including hanging out with Michael Caine), what it’s been like working with the best filmmakers in the industry over the last few years, the way he prepares for a role, getting the opportunity to work with Bong Joon-Ho on Okja, his experience working on the BBC adaptation of War and Peace, and more. In addition, I even got him to play “Save or Kill”, which is how we started the interview.

Bit of a crush... he's kind of amazing.
I love when he squint his eyes everytime he smile
I must confess, I've only seen him in War & Peace. He delivered a phenomenal performance and I was impressed.
Me too! Wow, he is a very good actor.
+Alicia Coburg you don't know what you've been missing, he is phenomenal in everything he does !!
+Alicia Coburg You should watch "There will be blood".
Same! I only ever saw him in War And Peace! He done the accent so well I adopted him as a British actor but im shocked he's American xD I adored him in that role!!!
Every movie i saw him at he was always giving the best of himself on the characters he played.
Interviewer: “I want to play with you!”
Paul: “Alright” 😏

his expression lol i can’t-
3:04 my man literally said “don’t care” I love him so much
Being British I can pretty much spot a fake accent, in war and peace I genuinely thought he was British his accent is so good!
Same here. One of the better fake accents I've heard.
+hafsa ayy lmaooo same, I hated his character is 12 years didn't even realise it was him lol
+Nikola Keiser what the hell hes not british!!! that is amazing. It's on a level of Hugh Laurie in House post season 1..
watch him in Little Miss Sunshine
yeah! War And Peace was the first role I saw Paul Dano in, and I thought he was British until I started watching his interviews! I adored him as Piere!!! Im totally gonna check out his other roles :3
His smile is freakin adorable I can’t
Such a brilliant actor, he so good in There Will Be Blood. Seems like a rad dude as well, you can tell he puts a lot of thought and effort into every role.
+Austin Wilson He's one of the most divisive actors ever! I think he's an absolutely awful actor, and while I appreciate his dedication, he overacts worse than Nicolas Cage...and Nicolas Cage overacts on purpose!
Jester JLay
I guess everyone has their opinion, I've only really seen him in a few movies and I liked him in them, Prisoners and The Girl Next Door lol.
***** I saw The Girl Next Door forever ago, so I barely remember Dano being in it, lol. Prisoners is on my list of movies to watch soon, so maybe I'll enjoy him in that. I will say that I only liked Dano in one movie (so far), and that was in Little Miss Sunshine...but he was mute for 80% of the movie, haha! Cheers!
omg, when I saw the blood coming out of his dead in that "I will drink your milkshake" scene, I was like nooooooooooooooooo! I love you!!!
In the Girl Next Door he was just a kid and yeah he didn't have many lines but it was by far one of my fav movies, smart plot and characters.
he has such a sweet smile 😍😍😍
His smile is so warm ))
He seems to just excel in every role he plays. I would watch any movie with him in it.
the way he smiled after answering each questions
Literally this guy is my soulmate, sadly he has a girlfriend and he´s a movie star so...I´m dying alone.
wait me vibes
@@haiiiix3 im seeing you in every fucking paul interview comment section LMFAOOOOOO
@@ppiper NAURRRRR PLSSSS THATS SO FUCKING FUNNY😭😭😭😭
Me rn.
I'm so in love with him and he doesn't know I exist fml
One of the nicest celebrities I have met. Every time he comes to Toronto I love going to meet him :-) very humble, down to heart and talented actor.
I've seen him before but oh my god did he deliver a brilliant performance portraying Pierre. Also, he seems like a chill dude and is a cutie ^.^
He looks really sweet and harmless >.
Paul Dano is a talent to watch for sure. He's amazing in everything he's been in. Also he's just directed his first film and it's getting buzz on the festival circuit
Knocked Pierre in War & Peace out of the park.
Puts him in class of one.
When I saw the War and Peace cast after I've read the book, I said this can only be Pierre Bezukhov, and he couldn't be more of Pierre, he was brilliant
I was genuinely surprised to hear that he was American as his accent is so good in War and Peace. I did see him in Little Miss Sunshine a while ago but didn't realise it was the same actor.
+Jennifer Lunn Also, he didn't talk that much in Little Miss Sunshine haha xD
Me too
Nobody else has Danos underrated ability. Such a relevant dude.
I like Dano, he always pops up playing interesting parts.
I NEED HIM😭😭😭😭
He looks like such a cool guy! And as an actor, in the little that I've seen him in, he's just incredible.
3:21 LMFAOO i cant believe he said this i’m dyinggg 😭
Great interview! Absolutely love Paul Dano. He's so talented and absolutely brilliant in everything I've seen. Beautiful person too. I'm a massive fan of his.
The amount of ironic questions related to Batman in this IS KILLING ME
he looks so hot here I can't get over it
Danonationers how we feeling
he's phenomenal ...watch him as Brian Wilson in "Love and Mercy", he nails it! i'm a fan for life after that
amazing interview! loved the questions, the interviewer was great, and well paul dano is paul dano
HES SO PRETTY IN THIS
The irony that he said Marvel when he’s going to now be in the DC universe. That’s pretty crazy.
What an accomplishment to not be British and be casted in a starring role like that. Many Americans have a hard time nailing down a good British accent, he did an amazing job.
Oh man. I would LOVE to interview him.
Those fucking eyes. 💕
Go to see YOUTH. He's absolutely brilliant!
Am I the only one that thinks he has a really weird unique face?
Matt K yeah, i couldnt compare him to anyone!
I do too but I think he’s beautiful.
yes, unique beauty
Funny thing me and him have about the same facial structure
Yes, and also adorable :D
I need him so bad 😭😭😭😭
"sounds kinky so I'm going to have to go with that"
FINALLY SOMEONE TALKIGN ABOUT THAT PART
@@megandias24 I was shocked that no one had mentioned it 😭 like hello???? Can’t we take a second?
@@Black_pearl_adrift a second was not enough I had to take laps around my house 😭😭😭 that man is a freak and he isn't afraid to show it 🤰🤰🤰
@@megandias24 😭😭😭
there’s something going on that I like…
I’m kinda fangirling over the fact that Paul and I chose the same answers, but then I remind myself that he’s married
I saw him in Love And Mercy And Prisoners. I gotta see him in War And Peace, I’m halfway through on the book since I started on Boxing Day.
If I ever do meet Paul I’ll ask him if he’s seen the 1956 film adaption.
Because of Audrey Hepburn playing as Natasha and this song called The Gates Of Delirium by Yes which was based on War And Peace.
Love him!
Does he play Pierre on bbc1, if so, epic British accent, +I should know
+Queeniexx 2000 Yep! It's pretty much impeccable, isn't it?
+Queeniexx 2000 he's THE only reason I'm watching it. I've read the book so I don't need to see it but Paul, well... who can resist?
Joyce Gibbs I've read the book too! He's British accent is great, omg I love him!
I am a fan of Paul Dano he is amazing actor in the movies and my favourite movies that he is in is okja and he's playing Jay in the movie
Underappriciated king ‼️‼️‼️dont sleep on him
How are you petrushka
You mean Петрушка?
i think it’s funny they make him pick between walking dead or sopranos because he was in the sopranos 😭
I thought it was funny how he asked him to choose between Sopranos and Walking Dead, he was on Sopranos lol.
Obviously
Sopranos ruuuules
Это Пьер Безухов из романа Война и Мир - Льва Толстого
HE SAID OASIS! HALLELUJA! OASIS WINS BECAUSE PAUL DANO SAID SO!
Classic.
4:26 Ironic since he's gonna be in a DC film
4:40 Least he chose batman
@Energy Guy which one?
Why is this video so loud. I had to turn the volume down by 2 thirds.
3:05 now he just did batman with robert haha
I liked him 10x more when he said Game of Thrones
С переводом бы, ведь очень супер. Актер
Do you remember him in Little miss sunshine?
😍😍😍😍😍
You won't speak because of Friedrich Nietzsche? ... Far out!
Why hasn't Paul Dano worked with Woody Allen yet?! Check out 'Ruby Sparks' if you haven't - he is so Woody in certain bits there, it's scary!

He killed Prince!

Was he the genius teen in Knight and Day starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz?
He looks like such a dork
His demeanor sort of creeps me out.
What do you mean?
Of course he choose Batman, He's the Riddler
I wonder whether by any chance the annoying interviewer is the "star" who keeps fkng up all the movies he appears in? With Woody Allen's Café Society being the latest victim. If so, the future of Hollywood looks grim
This "gotta go" phrase feels uncomfortable
Save or Kill - such a stupid way of interview
