naruto’s specialty is character relatability. shikamaru is by far one of the MOST relatable characters in the series. having responsibility is one of the most disheartening and encouraging things about life. shikamaru has such a hard time grasping the encouraging side of it but such an easy time discovering the disheartening aspects. if that isn’t one of the most real life human problems ever, idk what is. having the ability to both say, “i don’t want to do this, but i have to do this”. is proof if not only intellect but WISDOM. we watch shikamaru turn into a wise man from a smart kid. how’s that not beautiful
One of my favorite Shikamaru moments was when Orochimaru invaded the leaf village. Someone cast a huge genjutsu to put everyone to sleep. Only skilled ninja were able to release it. Shikamaru was able to release the sleep genjutsu but he just pretended like he was sleeping because he didn't want to have to deal with a fight.

And he fought to protect that. He was the first to inherit the will of fire for a reason.
I felt the same way about shikamaru. I always related to him so much. When I first saw him in the show I said this guy is so like me... I wasn't any genius brat to be fair, but I was often praised for being intelligent above average. And people always told me how many possibilities I had, all the things I could accomplish, they told me I could be a doctor or scientist, they expected a lot from me. And all I could think about was how much I wanted a totally care free life, free of burden, free of responsibilities. I haven't watched Naruto in 15 years but the kunai on a parachute trick is lodged into my brain almost as hard as Lee dropping the weights; what a cool-ass character.
Some people found his character design boring and his personality too stereotypical. Although, for me shikamaru was one of my favorite characters with Rock Lee and Itachi.

Eh, I think he's kinda annoying and overrated. Kishimoto showed him too much favouritism, literally the only character who was allowed to get revenge in the story and allowed to move on, plus his fans can be arrogant.
The arrogance is just the people in the fandom, kakashi is my personal favorite but I'm not biased towards him and I know where he stands in comparison to the rest power wise. I personally think shikamaru is a great character and he has good development, also if Sasuke didn't go rogue and wasn't written to be consumed by hatred then he could have gotten his revenge on an official mission. He could have unlocked his mangekyo by witnessing Naruto or Sakura having a near death experience, train his eyes then face Itachi. One of the things I like about shikamaru is that he's the underdog type and he surprises you a few times with his skills and intelligence despite the lack of power.
I was talking to my friends son today and he's getting into Naruto, he asked me my favourite character and I said Shikamaru. I thought about the character for the rest of the day, as soon as I got home I searched "Shikamaru is the best" and watched this video and it made me really emotional, not just because it is nostalgic and reminds me of where I was almost 20 years ago watching this shit but because I forgotten why I loved the character so much and what he meant to me. Ive recently come to realize something about the naruto series. I think that from the perspective of the jinchuriki, its more about coming to terms with your inner demons, (seeing as how thats how the tailed beasts are referred to in the beginning) and not letting them overcome you, but using them to your advantage. With the backgrounds of naruto and gaara being very similar and seeing what happens when someones "demon" is forcibly ripped from them before they are ready and how that can harm them in a very devastating way. It seems to me that most of the characters have a demon all of their own, and whats necessary for personal growth is getting to know that inner demon, and becoming comfortable with it. Failure is one part, but i think its a very small part comparatively.
Over coming your demons (both literal and figurative) is definitely a huge theme throughout the story. And I would argue that dealing with failure, not hiding from your past failures, and finding ways to to succeed in the future is a form of over coming demons

I feel like so many characters are underrated Shizune, Kurenai, Shino, Tenten, Genma Yugao etc. wish we got to see more of their backstorys especially Shizune, she is the niece of Tsunade's deceased boyfriend.

Kishimoto could’ve had Tenten learn puppet mastery with Kankuro during the time skip, puppets are essentially mid range ninja tools and we’ve seen her use puppet strings during the chunin exam so it makes sense and we would visibly see her bukijutsu progress and not just hear about it.

That monologue of his wish having an average life stuck with me aswell first time I watched Naruto many years ago. It is admirable. I always seen Shikamaru as the character that tells the story of hood kids who been through violence they whole life and still choose to be a good people when they age into teens/adulthood. The ones who grow up & take care of the block instead of becoming a part of the issues they had to face growing up. Like yeah he tries and fails, but at the end of the day that man is a day 1. 100% my fav character.
I always wanted to see the shadow control taken way past what's been shown so far, with the solid shadow utilized in the choke or the stab jutsus especially. 1.) Shadow weapons 2.) Shadow Armour 3.) "Shadow Clones" (identical to the Armour clad caster but diff from trad s.c.'s) 4.)shadow portals (potentially pocket dimensions, or one large singular dimension, possibly instant teleportation) Imagine a shinobi clad in solid darkness Armour, stabbing darkness tendrils as extra limbs, darkness weapons, clones just like that, and all swirling around and melding through each other so you can't track the user. Then you find out at some point its nothing but clones the whole time and he's been sitting in a meditation stance submerged in your very own shadow the whole fight, just sitting there hangingout, chilling. I'm just saying to me it sounds awesome, plus with his IQ this sounds shikamaru af.

What's true of it is that their deaths didn't have the impact of a whole arc on another character that way and Gaara's wasn't even a definitive death because he got resurrected. I'm not even counting Chiyo here because she's such a grey character in terms of being counted as part of the "good guys" as you put it.

It was hard as a kid to decide between sasuke and shikamaru as my favorite character. But I always knew deep down Shikamaru was the most relatable.

Ive recently come to realize something about the naruto series. I think that from the perspective of the jinchuriki, its more about coming to terms with your inner demons, (seeing as how thats how the tailed beasts are referred to in the beginning) and not letting them overcome you, but using them to your advantage. With the backgrounds of naruto and gaara being very similar and seeing what happens when someones "demon" is forcibly ripped from them before they are ready and how that can harm them in a very devastating way. It seems to me that most of the characters have a demon all of their own, and whats necessary for personal growth is getting to know that inner demon, and becoming comfortable with it. Failure is one part, but i think its a very small part comparatively.
Over coming your demons (both literal and figurative) is definitely a huge theme throughout the story. And I would argue that dealing with failure, not hiding from your past failures, and finding ways to to succeed in the future is a form of over coming demons

@@FlimsyIndo I would say that failure is a Demon. Our failures stay with us the same way the the tail beasts stayed with the jinchurikis. And it's on us to figure out how to learn to live with those failures and those demons

I feel like so many characters are underrated Shizune, Kurenai, Shino, Tenten, Genma Yugao etc. wish we got to see more of their backstorys especially Shizune, she is the niece of Tsunade's deceased boyfriend.

@@chillreview636 Tenten had potential to be an awesome character. Kishimoto could have done many different things to develop her character, especially her weapon mastery ability. Kishimoto could’ve had Tenten learn puppet mastery with Kankuro during the time skip, puppets are essentially mid range ninja tools and we’ve seen her use puppet strings during the chunin exam so it makes sense and we would visibly see her bukijutsu progress and not just hear about it.

I always seen Shikamaru as the character that tells the story of hood kids who been through violence they whole life and still choose to be a good people when they age into teens/adulthood. The ones who grow up & take care of the block instead of becoming a part of the issues they had to face growing up. Like yeah he tries and fails, but at the end of the day that man is a day 1.

I always wanted to see the shadow control taken way past what's been shown so far, with the solid shadow utilized in the choke or the stab jutsus especially.
1.) Shadow weapons
2.) Shadow Armour
3.) "Shadow Clones"
(identical to the Armour clad caster but diff from trad s.c.'s)
4.)shadow portals (potentially pocket dimensions, or one large singular dimension, possibly instant teleportation)
Imagine a shinobi clad in solid darkness Armour, stabbing darkness tendrils as extra limbs, darkness weapons, clones just like that, and all swirling around and melding through each other so you can't track the user. Then you find out at some point its nothing but clones the whole time and he's been sitting in a meditation stance submerged in your very own shadow the whole fight, just sitting there hangingout, chilling.
I'm just saying to me it sounds awesome, plus with his IQ this sounds shikamaru af.

Tho I am quiet the opposite of him, I am highly intelligent but needed to be as busy as possible to clear my mind. That results of me being exhausted, but thinking of Shikamaru, it keeps calm and just be chill to take a breathe for a while.

Seriously though, I’ve always liked “lazy genius” characters like Shikamaru where their greatest flaw is a lack of extra effort. That’s a really human flaw to give a character, I think.

Gotta say, being reminded of the Asuma death arc made me cry. I can't say there's another arc that does that for me.
Definitely a heavy arc. I might be wrong, but I think Asuma is the first of the main good guys to die in the Naruto series as well
@@chillreview636 well, technically Hiruzen and Gaara died first. What's true of it is that their deaths didn't have the impact of a whole arc on another character that way and Gaara's wasn't even a definitive death because he got resurrected. I'm not even counting Chiyo here because she's such a grey character in terms of being counted as part of the "good guys" as you put it.
