    Thank you so much Dale. All went GREAT! Note that in my case, my Flex5 (mfg 07/28/2020) the case screws were T5, not T6! I also bought a cheaper SSD adapter that worked fine (AMZ SSK M.2 NVMe SSD adapter) just for others reference. Also note that Macrium current download version is 7.3.5854. I did NOT try that version and instead searched & downloaded the older V7 DLHF version (which is what I used successfully!
    Thank you again

    Thank you so much. I fought this for 2 hours because I was using the PAID EaseUS Partition Magic to clone the SSD and the Lenovo refused to boot from the new drive. I had never heard of Macrium before this video and it worked instantly. Had I used it from the beginning this would have been a 20minute upgrade.

    Long time Macrium user myself ;-) using it for weekly partition backups. The WD Blues are really nice and solid SSDs, not the fastest, but very THIN (one sided) and they dont get hot, really recommended for laptops.

    Thank you, thank you, thank you! I have a Lenovo with recovery partitions and could not get any of the WD(acronis), aomei, samsung software to copy any or all of the partitions. It looked like some trial versions might work but they would not complete the clone until you bought the software - some trial! I was about to give up when I found your video. I want to remove the 512 GB drive and replace it with a 1TB or 2TB drive. My internal drive is a M.2 2242 SSD / PCIe NVMe, PCIe 3.0 X 2, can I replace that with a M.2 2280 SSD / PCIe NVMe, PCIe 3.0 X 4 drive? So, I want to go from a 2242 to a 2280 drive.

    RAM IS UPGRADABLE You can add more RAM to this PC. I have the very same model and now I have 20GB RAM. It is confusing at first because Lenovo says the ram is soldered. Well, They have 2 channels. Only 1 RAM channel is soldered. 1 is removable. Lenovo soldered the 4GB stick to the motherboard, dedicated to the tiny graphics card (I believe) or dedicated to something. There is a 12 GB stick that is removable. I took out the 12GB stick and replaced it with Crucial 16GB stick. So... Now I technically have 20GB RAM in my Lenovo Flex 5 14in.

    Dale, thanks for the instruction. I have the same system and ordered the same products and performed the same clone. With the new SSD installed the system boots up fine, but after a few minutes the system freezes and gives a flash of a blue error screen and announces the system has to reboot. It then goes to the Windows recovery page upon start up. Any ideas what went wrong or how to troubleshoot? Note that when I put the old SSD drive in the system works fine again. Regards, Mike

      Hi there. Well, you can try a couple things. First, type memory diagnostics in the Cortana search box, then click memory diagnostics to reboot and run 2 passes. Possible you got a buggy stick of ram, try that first to rule it out.

    • @wdblackman
      @wdblackman 4 года назад

      I have the exact same issue. When Windows boots, I can login but then it flashes the blue screen and then reboots into the Windows recovery. I've used MiniTool Partition Wizard (the last free version) and the Macrium to clone the disk. Same result. The drive works fine when it is in the USB adapter reading and writing. I'm lost.

      It's not "necessary", I mean it's not gonna blow up or anything, but it's good practice to do it. In any case, you don't need to physically unplug it, you can go to the BIOS and disable it there before upgrading the SSD. It'll be automatically re-enabled the next time you plug the charger.

      I know this is a late reply, but I had the same issue (this is meant for people who stumble upon this with the same issue). What I did is go to disk management (just search for it), and when you open it up a popup will appear on your screen. It will say "initialize disk", and you'll see two options: MBR or GPT. Select GPT (unless you have an old Windows laptop, like older than XP). You can format then format the drive and continue on like in the video

    So I tested this all the way up to opening the laptop. I am currently waiting on the torx 6 to arrive in the mail. I went to the bios to boot from the ssd I copied to and it failed to boot. Does this mean it didn't copy correctly or would it work better if I waited for the torx to come in to replace the storage already in the computer? The adapter was also extremely hot to the touch after I attempted to boot twice (both times failed.), is it supposed to be that hot? I unplugged it and took out the ssd that was in the adapter to cool faster.
