Pro tip..I have watched all of Chri's videos for years at 1.5 speed. I have limited time so it helps get it all watched quicker, plus these machines flat hustle that way. Plus it helps those southern boys speak at a northern speed. lol

The sound of the D6 is why most equipment operators are hard of hearing, no matter how tough you are you will lose hearing, a little bit at a time, there's no escaping that. People think they're being clever with the exhaust pipes and mufflers, they are only permanently hurting the operator, hearing loss never get better over time, once you lose some you're never getting it back.

    • @nemo227

You are absolutely CORRECT, David. I worked in a newspaper press room and mail room for 16 years, played in dance bands, and had my own printing business for 21 years and I'm one of the fortunate ones . . . at 82 I can hear very well. What? Huh? Well, married men just don't listen well. I think that's what my wife said but . . .

      WHAT??!!??
Seriously ... yes. Run a WWII era D7 cable dozer for 8 hours. Straight pipe and loose floor plates. My head rang for 16 hours after that. Bad exhaust pipes on their old 9U series D6 pony didn't do me any favors either.
I loved being on switch engines that were working hard. Like riding thunder, and the fireworks show at night, while assisting a re-routed coal train up Independence Hill, was a treat. Bonus was seeing cars pulling over on the highway running parallel to the tracks, so they could watch. Paying for all that now, though I can't say I regret any of it. At least not yet.

When you put jumper cables over one battery in a two battery 24v system, you get 12v even though they are connected in series. The disadvantage is that the machine’s charging system will put exactly the same charge back into both batteries even if one battery is more discharged than the other. You can run a 12v component off one battery in a 24v machine, but eventually that one battery will be dead flat while the other battery will still be full. The way around that is to use a 24/12 converter (essentially a transformer) and run your 12v components off that.

So many people focused on the sound and not a reasonable comment on the fact this is too big for many of Chris’ jobs. What if he gets a Komatsu like Dirt Boss. People like the sound of that machine and it’s smaller so more functional,,,,, it’s only Chris’ money,,,,, hahaha.

@@shitloveaduck oh I was just having fun bud. I realize Chris wouldn't want to have a machine like that. Transporting would be difficult and like you say his jobs don't require a D6.

Looks like the root rake was used to pile up the roots. So what equipment was used to get all of those roots out of the ground? Thanks.

I see that dozer is equipped with the optional Goodyear racing slick pads. Optimal traction on the drag strip.

The D6 owner needs to watch The Jackson Brothers channel episode "One D11 Gets New Grouser Lugs and The Other Gets Bogged". In this video they welds new bars onto the tracks for additional traction. A couple of videos later he uses SEVEN rods at the SAME TIME in order to reduce the number of passes. Pretty cool stuff 👍👍👍👍

    • @bishop9598

To allow some of the dirt to drop to ground and then you can 'roll' the debris with the rake. Reduces amount of dirt that gets into the pile.

That's a beast of a rake. The way you handled it, so you were not cutting deep and bogging it up with dirt, was on par with your usual finesse. It's a big site. I'm curious if they burn or grind all that debris.

With all of the land clearing being completed, why not get a large chipper/grinder to mulch it up for faster decay/disposition???
