Just one of the best and most underrated bands that ever happened in the mid 80s. This song tears along at frantic pace and leaves you breathless. Forget Marc Almond's similar lyrical obsessions for a moment (seeking solace in the world of the underdog / finding romanticism in despair and longing, etc), Johny Brown sings like he really means it man!!! This band had everything. Except a bigger audience of course.......
One of their best for sure but there is an earlier version which is just as good if not very slightly better, It's slower with an almost whispered vocal. It came out on a giveaway 7inch with sounds music paper & was the song that got me into BOHJ. As soon as I heard it I had to find more & fortunately local HMV has More tales from the city. In 2017 I'm still playing & loving everything they did. Thanks Johny Brown & everyone who made up the band over the years.
I've just listened to it again & I absolutely love the version on MMM but the earlier version IS the best version, maybe because I heard it first ? :-) I'd be very happy to load it up here but I haven't the faintest idea how to, if anyone can explain how I'll put it up in a couple of days. Sorry I don't think I'll have time tomorrow but I assure you it will be well worth the wait. :-) By the way MMM version is much better produced but earlier version just has something. Oh bugger just listened to this one again & I can't separate them haha both absolutely brilliant !!!!
@@guitarman1477 Saw BOHJ with Carter at Brixton Academy, don't remember them supporting James although I did see James just the once so maybe it was that time & my memory is shot :-)
