    Why you did not use the composite lay up?

      It was long time ago but I think idea was to show delamination and hence the approach.

    Sir i am modelling delamination in abaqus explicit for low velocity impact . How to calculate delamination damage area what should be selected in history output

    • @Professor3MEC
      @Professor3MEC  Год назад

      Yes, Abaqus Explicit can be used to model delamination in composite materials for low velocity impact. The simulation process typically involves creating a detailed finite element model of the composite material, including the different layers and interfaces, and defining the appropriate boundary conditions and material properties. The impact event can be modeled using explicit dynamics, with a specified impact velocity and direction.
      To model delamination, various failure criteria and damage models can be used, such as the Hashin criterion, Tsai-Wu criterion, and the Maximum Principal Strain (MPS) criterion. These criteria can be used to define the conditions under which delamination occurs. The cohesive zone model (CZM) can also be used to model the behavior of the delamination interface.
      Once the simulation is run, the results can be analyzed to study the behavior of the composite material under impact and the progression of delamination. The simulation results can also be used to optimize the design of the composite material to improve its performance under impact.
      It's worth noting that the above is a general description and the actual implementation of delamination modeling in Abaqus Explicit will depend on the specific material, the impact conditions, and the desired level of detail of the simulation.

      I never used it to be very honest. Might have to look into documentation.

      You need to select "quad" in mesh controls within the mesh module. This should solve your problem.

      @@Professor3MEC well I am trying to simulate the delamination of composite laminates (16 plies) , I created my part as a solid extrusion (which from my understanding only effects the appearnce but my laminates will still be treated as shell ), so I was thinking of assigning the plies this mtrl : elastic , lamina and a heshin damage criteria for failure , would that in your opinion be suitable or should i in my case use Engineering constant like the case in your video ?

      and also my goa is to asses the reduction in stiffness due to the failure or even after a tensile test, and am not sure how should i do that ? i mean is there a way in the post processing phase to get the reduced stiffness matrix and evaluate it ? or when am doing a tensile test model is there a way to evaluate the elastic mtrl properties in a tensile test ?

      @@mahaelsaeid3713 so you are modeling each ply as shell in 3D and then want to simulate the delamination happening between any of the plies?

      @@mahaelsaeid3713 you may find this one useful as in this case it was modelled using solid elements but one can use shell too, if used carefully with a few tricks.
