The 2024 Movie Season is upon us. Although the writers and actors strikes set some things back into 2025, some of the 2023 releases shifted to give a pretty interesting year. From Dune 2 to Joker 2, Despicable Me 3, Deadpool 3 and much more, what will be the movies that perform the best, are received the best? We cover January to December of 2024. There were a few movies that were glossed over as “not sure what that is”, where I definitely knew what it was. And I think Sean might have even known what some of them were but tried not to step on the host’s toes.
Yeah I don’t think Kristian is a big horror guy. Terrifier 3 was the biggest one where I would have had a lot to say but he moved passed it.
Part of what happened was I gave him a hard cut off for when I needed to leave (I drove straight to the airport once this ended). Since we took longer on the first half he was trying to be respectful of my time in the back half.

Deadpool 3 wins the summer even over Joker 2… unless there is a hidden hit like TG: Maverick or Barbie
Miller's girl looks (based on the trailer) like an erotic thriller. Either way i'm hyped for Jenna Ortega, love her. Daisy Riddley movie Sometimes I Think About Dying is coming out on Jan 26. I'm not excited for Argylle, i'll wait for it on streaming. I got tired of Matthew Vaughn's Kingsman schtick. Don't care for Madame Web movie. Same here loved Dune Part 1 can't wait for Part 2 in March. Civil War looks freaking good very hyped for that one. The Fall Guy looks hollow and the trailer showed too much in 3 minutes. Furiosa needs to stay with the Apes movie. I need a good double feature in the theater.

Dune part 2 is BY FAR my number 1 most anticipated - and I’m thrilled that Denis wants to finish it off with Dune Messiah
I like dune a lot but if i am quite honest I am missing prisoners-scale denis villeneuve, I hope he doesn't get stuck in blockbuster land forever.
Hopefully he then Produces Children of Dune with a fellow director of his choosing. That would give us the full OG Dune experience. ( later books are way more dense , abstract, almost impossible to adapt)
The RUclips algorithm always suggests Sean Chandler to me. Guess I should subscribe to him now. He seems pretty cool!

Black Adam made 393 million and had the biggest movie star in the world. But I agree movie budgets are absolutely insane. No hard feelings had a 40 million dollar budget.

I've actually been a lifelong Garfield fan since I can remember. Grew up watching the Saturday morning series and all of the holiday specials. But I've also passed on that love to my 4 year old daughter who is so excited to see this movie and she has been quoting and reenacting the trailer with her Garfield stuffed animal. I'm very excited to sit in the theater and share this movie with her.

Mickey 17 Sci-fi by Parasite's director with Robert Pattinson, Maxxine - the 3rd part of Ti West Horror Trilogy with Mia Got, Crow - new famous gothic comiс book movie with Bill Skarsgaard, Megalopolis - new epic film by Francice Ford Coppola
I didn’t like joker. I don’t care if it was big or not it was just depressing and a big rip off of king of comedy and taxi driver(much better movies).I’m starting to not like Joaquin Phoenix. After joker and Napoleon I’m like this guy is not for me. So I’ll watch joker 2 but I’m not exited for it! Heath leager for life!!
I know it’s hard to adjust money from Japanese budget speculation but Godzilla minus one has made $95mil worldwide on your hypothetical $85 mil budget… not sure how much more it’ll make.
I personally like the tom cruise reacher movies,especially the first one. Who cares if he’s short! Hugh jackman is 6’3” playing a character who is 5’3” in the comic and we still love him in the role. As a short guy I’m offended! 😂
I think furiosa will do better than planet of the apes. That trilogy was great but this one looks meh. Haven’t heard much hype on it. I say furiosa makes $150 mil and planet makes 130 max
You guys don’t know The Omen? The original is almost on par with The Exorcist. This new one probably won’t be good though, alas.
Sonic 3 with Jim Carrey would win December I think. Plus Shadow is a beloved fan favorite so that will help.
Shame you can't do an updated version now that all the shifts and new trailers are out. Abigail (Radio Silence's new movie) looks like it's going to be such a fun time in the theater. I don't know what website you used for this information but it's terribly outdated.
Smile was better than saw X to me. To say we seen it before and praise saw X? Kinda weird but hey we all have our takes on these films. Smile had great cinematography and was a fun horror picture. Horror for life!

Napoleon sucked but the last duel was very good! So Ridley Scott is hit or miss lately for me.

rough year for movies maybe. why so many musicals?
You know when you even look at a list of films that are coming out this year you'd be pretty surprised as to the names of certain ones that people just don't know that much about. The Alien movie for example is one people in this space know about but casual audiences don't know yet. I think that movie could be insane given the director.

I am really surprised that you both haven't heard about 'Challengers'. Its trailer got a huge amount of chatter when it came out last year.
Just looked it up and I had heard about it. I saw Bones and All at a film festival. So pairing Zendaya with that director is immediately interesting. But the specific title didn't stand out to me. It's a pretty generic title.

You skipped Mickey 17, Bong Joon-Ho's next movie after Parasite with Robert Pattinson, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo. Definitely in my top 5 most anticipated of the year.

Did we? That doesn't sound right. I know I've talked about it in the last couple of weeks. I have a friend who saw it at a test screening. So it's one which pops out to me to talk about.
I'm sorry, Kristian, but moving Furiosa to the same weekend as The Fall Guy would be a monumentally bad idea. It might do better than paired with Apes 4, but it would take away a lot of Fall Guy's possible box office gross. If it stays in May, the 10th and 17th would be much better options. Also, I'm a little disheartened to hear you don't like Len Weisman directing Ballerina. I knew you weren't crazy about Live Free Or Die Hard, but I didn't know you had an issue with him. If it's because DH4 was PG-13, that wasn't his fault. Fox forced it on him. You really should see the unrated version. It makes a world of difference. And that mystery event film by Universal you and Sean mentioned? Turns out it's a horror film called Abigail in which a group of kidnappers take a little girl hostage only to find out she's a vampire and his hunting them down one by one. The trailer dropped earlier tonight and it looks awesome. By the way, I hope you have Sean on again sometime. He's cool.

I think horror movies and action movies (if they're not a cgi/special effects fest) can get away with dropping in January b/c their budgets tend to be low enough that they can still earn a profit even if they're moderate successes. I think that's why horror has never quite gone away b/c they can cater to a smaller audience (or a larger one which just increases that profit margin) and still be ok which is why I don't think they've ever died out like Westerns or, more recently, comedies.

Godzilla Minus One was my 3rd favorite movie of 2023. Ridiculous how strong the human story was. But could care less about Monsterverse, because I couldn’t tell you one thing about the human story in it, either!
@1;20;30 I appreciate Kristian giving Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles some love. That show is my favorite oiece of Terminator lore after the first two films.
There are definitely between a few and a decent amount of good movies coming out this year. However next year is stacked. I mean this year has Deadpool 3 and Dune part 2 and then the maybe Gladiator and Planet of the Apes or Ballerina. Next year though with being a year out Blade, Avatar 3, The Batman part 2, Superman Legacy, Fantastic Four and then several movies don't have titles and all of them don't have trailers.
I know this is obvious because of the strike, but 2024 is looking light on movies. Just not a whole lot I'm looking forward to this year. Of course it will turn out to be fine when you combine it with TV/Streaming, but theatrically it seems to be a little light.

That Transformers animated movie is an origin story set on Cybertron. Hemsworth is playing Orion Pax, the young bot who eventually gets remade into Optimus Prime. No one has said this, but I think there's still a chance Peter Cullen's voice makes a brief appearance once he's rebuilt at the end of the movie.
Dune Part II is my most anticipated movie that I bought an AMC gift card in September 2023 in case I was broke when the movie comes out!

1:31:16 I agree, there’s this weird trend of people flip-flopping on movies after they’ve loved them for so many months, and it seems like this contrarian nature steps in where they want to separate themselves from the crowd, and they gaslight themselves into thinking the movie isn’t as good as they initially thought. Lol
It would be interesting if they can do the same thing with James Earl Jones' voice that they did with Sigourney Weaver's voice for Way of Water. Making it sound younger.
Sweeney Todd was mismarketed, too. Came off as more of a revenge tale than a musical (which it is!).

Anytnig you is doing really well , it is the number one movie at the box office the last few days. Espcially impressive since a lot of people assumed the romcom genre had largely died out siince it's peak in the 90s and 2000s. . It become a sleeper hit for sure.

It was scheduled for christmas day 2024 originally but has since been delayed because they couldn't shoot during the actors strike.

I think Harloff is underestimating Furiosa. Planet of the Apes films are associated with Andy Serkis and Matt Reeves, neither of which are returning.
Fury Road audience has grown since its release and Furiosa popularity outdid Mad Max at the moment
Most people who watch movies don’t know who Andy Serkis or Matt Reeves even are.
@R17759 I have never seen LOTR, but I know who Andy Serkis is because of how much he's forced to do Golum. How many fans of The Batman know who Matt Reeves is just like Nolan w/ The Batman Trilogy..
