Mark, I wanted to let you know, I expended countless hours researching light meters in determining quality and which brand to buy. Part of my research was viewing almost all of the videos that you, Joe Brady, and others produced on light meters; period. The outcome of my research was I purchased the Sekonic L-758DR from Adorama. Let there be no doubt, the Sekonic L758 light meter is a most high quality product that is easy to use with a multitude of features. Sekonic light meters are everything that you and Joe say that they are and much more. Without reservation I would recommend Sekonic light meters to anyone who is serious about improving their photography as they will definitely remove any guesswork. It is also noteworthy to mention that an X-Rite Color Checker Passport is the perfect tool to calibrate a Sekonic light meter to a camera. Lastly and very important, it should be of note that if you call Sekonic seeking technical answers or just want to inquire about any of the Sekonic light meters, you will not be handed off to a foreign country where language can be a barrier and information is lacking. You will most likely speak with Mr. Phil Braden who is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about Sekonic products, and you will not be jaded with some high-pressure sales pitch. Mark, your instructional videos are much appreciated and a valuable tool for both seasoned and unseasoned photographers. Please continue to share your knowledge.
thx for the vid, i have also taken the plunge and invested in a actual light meter.. damn, i cant wait for the next amateur-camera-meeting, and where i will front of my new HS1010A to everybody to see, and be the big man on cam-pas" My new lightmeter is one of the pro-ones where there is alo a tripod-hole and interval recordings and all of that jazz.. I have invested around a 10'er but then it was also with shipping..maybe a tad to much, but on the other hand you only life once, and for us with a huge passion for this field, its okay to invest into some equipment...!

Great Demo. Thank you Mark. Would the 478d Be a good meter for strobist work? And the way it gives you a percentage of daylight and flash, looks like an awesome advantage in outside strobe work.
Would a light meter with spot metering capabilities be totally necessary for doing street photography? I just started shooting medium format with a camera that doesn't have a light meter so I want to know what my best option would be. Thanks
None of these light meters are on the affordable side. It's 2018 as I'm viewing this and the cheapest one is over $200. I understand people want quality but I'm sure you can get some good ones cheaper than that. I appreciate the other videos though
You can use a light meter to measure the light hitting you subject, and a spot meter will allow you to see the light coming off of your subject, but I dont understand your question because there is no light per say coming from a DSLR camera. Light meters will tell you what setting to program you camera at.
My L-308DC didn't come with an orange skin - or any other skin. BTW the L-308DC is not merely similar to the L-308S. In PHOTO mode the L-308DC works exactly like the L-308S and does everything the L-308S does. And on top of that the L-308DC has the CINE and the HD CINE modes which the L-308S doesn't have.
mrz 1342 if you mean, can you trigger your Godox strobes from the meter, the answer is No. You will have to fire your strobes from a Godox trigger. Which really is no big deal.
I have the 758DR but having some issues trying to get a good exposure with my 5D mkiii. It's over exposing even whdm I use the software from sekonic. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to calibrate it with the camera? I tried doing S much as doing a full manual profile no joy. Any subjections?
For what these gadgets do they are way over priced like most light meters. It costs manufacturers virtually nothing to make these and they sell them for prices that are crazy.Affordable is something these REPS don't understand.

This is not about choosing the right Light Meter, this is about choosing the right Sekonic meter! There are several other Light Meters out there.

When I got my L-308DC I was surprised how big it was. No problem at all, it was just a little wider than I had expected.

does the sekonic metres only work remotely with the pocket wizard controllers?
