- This is the theme tune for the flying coaster built by B&M and designed by John Wardley at Alton Towers Resort UK. Air is located in the Forbidden Valley section of the park and was the first flying coaster in the world when it opened in 2002.
In 2016 the ride will become Galactica which will be the UKs first VR coaster.

Reminds me of being a dumb 14 year old kid. Standing in the cold, wet Staffordshire weather waiting for Air. Going to Alton towers with my mates every Saturday as we had annual passes. All you needed was £7.00 for the day. £4.00 for an all day First ticket: that got me from home to Hanley , Hanley to Alton Towers and vice versa and with the discount we got with our passes, £3.00 hotdog and chips from Ug Land! Awesome!

If they don’t take Galactica down the route of the new Phalanx story they should consider bringing it back to Air. It just feels a bit… soulless? Wardley’s original idea of Air being the hero when Oblivion and Nemesis were the villains of the park I always found quite cool
This music is pure 2000s futurism in the best possible way. It’s so relaxing and surreal. Unfortunately I never went on Air, but maybe one day the park might revert Galactica to its original form.
All they needed was to add scenery- not take away this classic soundtrack. I wish they went through and put in the oasis feature like that they were hoping to do in 2002.
couldn't agree more. Galactica, in my opinion, was a bit of a waste since only 2 rows use VR headsets as of now.

Back when it was built in 2002 Alton towers went over the 12 million pound budget for the ride and most of it was creating the new carts and couldn’t afford the theming we hoped but they should of done some space theming when it was re themed
Woah what was the oasis feature? I feel like Alton towers as a brand before Merlin was way more creative
Beyond a perfect soundtrack for this ride, this is a brilliant piece of ambient/chillout from the early 2000s
Still the best AT sound track miss it so much, the bass line as you enter the station, and the dispatch sequence
An Iconic theme. This rollercoaster will always be known as Air. Me and my good friend where one of the first to ride it as we stayed in the hotel the night prior and got on before the park opened. Will never forget the experience.
Would've loved to ridden it when it was air, with that Stellar theme and fresh paint on the track when it opened... wow.

I went to AT yesterday. As I walked past Nemesis, I put my headphones on and played this track. Took me back in an instant, what an incredible feeling 🩵🤍🩵🤍

I still remember the hype surrounding this ride when it first opened back in '02 - was lucky enough to visit the park that year in late May. The queue time by the time the park doors opened was already 1 hour. By 1.00pm - the queue time was 3 hours. Incredible ride and my absolute favourite theme tune of all the Alton Towers rides - pure exhilaration.
I remember going the summer this opened with a group of friends as a teenager and we queued up for 4 and a half hours in the blazing sun listening to this. It never got old.
I love this it brings back so many happy memories for me fun happy times I close my eyes and remember every moment ,some due to sad loss il never be able to have again all I have are the lovely memories and the tunes bring them all back 🥰
Air: relaxing soundtrack about flying
Galactica: rather intense soundtrack about getting back home
Both are good in their own way, but for me, Airs will always be better than Galacticas soundtrack.
As i never got to go on air when it was air, I don’t really know the soundtrack as well. Galactica’s soundtrack is probably my favourite of the two, but air also has a lovely soundtrack

I like both the Air theme tune and Galactica’s. Both produce great elements for their rides themeing, Air’s gives me the feeling of flying through vast open skies like a bird and Galactica’s provokes tension and suspension on rocketing through space at high speeds. I miss Air, but Galactica is a great ride with great themeing in my opinion

Dave Orilian I never said either of these rides had great themeing, just that the music perfectly shows the theming, and have you seen The Smiler or Wickerman? U.S parks just use movies anyway

They started playing old ride's theme tunes in their area I believe. I dont know why, they sometimes play black holes theme tune in X-Sector as well.

It’s so immersive...
This ride always made me feel calm and relaxed after getting on. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for Galactica. I still yearn for this to be played at Alton Towers in some way.

i miss this theme so much :( I wish they'd revert back to Air, it may have cost money to retheme it and put that portal up but Galatica was pointless and wasn't even that good,That money could have gone towards something new.... I worked on it for a little bit back when it first opened and the amount of issues it had is insane... (before and after opening, and i think it even had a delay on it opening because the VR stuff was so shit!) they should have never messed with it...Air was fine as it was and now that they have scrapped VR headsets WTF is the point of Galactica.... the ride was so much better as Air... and this music is a great example, i think this music not only gives a great feeling of flying which works nicely with the rides theme but this music always made me think of the good times i had at Alton Towers...
I totally agree! Even the VR made you feel awfully sick to the point I had to just close my eyes the first time I rode it as Galactica
i love the galactica theme but even i have to admit it was a pointless move from AT, even moreso that the VR, the whole aspect of the theme/what made this ride special, is gone now. oh well, VR was tacky as hell anyway from the 3 times I rode where it actually worked..
They could at least add some themeing in the tunnel.
If it was Galactica, the tunnel should have moon rocks, lots of fluorescent lights, and dry ice.
If it was Air, the tunnel should be repainted blue with a little waterfall to go with the quiet oasis themeing. Also, they should bring back the on-ride DVD.
someone did an interview with john wardley and he said they were gonna add theming to the tunnel but they didn't have time

Sand Is A Mix Of Sea And Land, Mind Blown and a different soundtrack. the coaster was find without VR and the retheme.
I do not get why they changed this ride. Should have refurbed it like they have done with Nemesis.
I can't decide whether his or galactica theme is better. they are both amazing in different ways but Air was my fave ride! :'(

Why was everyone so annoyed at Galactica??Its the exact same ride and VR is optional. The air soundtrack still plays in forbidden Valley. So there’s nothing to complain about!

Now that VR is finally gone I don’t know why people are still complaining about the re theme, Galactica is the exact same thing as A.I.R. but with a better soundtrack and a badass portal on the first drop

damn Alton towers changing their bloody rides from a good classic roller coaster to some vr shit I just don't get it!! I think they should just build a nother ride and make that a vr ride and turn galatica back into air.
The VR is optional. the ride is still the same.

Ahh, the many hours wasted stood waiting in the queue line listening to this, whilst awaiting a ride engineer to fix the ride.....
Galactica theme tune is so good
The only differences that I found with Air and Galactica is that Galactica has a portal, you can wear vr headsets and Air used to stop for about 15 seconds at the start of the lift hill.
Air only stopped on the lift hill if the staff sent the train a bit early, it can still stop but the VR headsets slows down the trains being sent out
it still does stop at the bottom of the lift hill. It does it if there’s still a train on the track.

This song makes me sad. IDK why... it reminds me of the game Rez which Toonami reviewed in 2004. The review had a cameo by Swayzak, and he sounded SO smug and sarcastic there, even if he was only laughing. This song reminds me of Sara and Swayzak's untold romance... I hate Toonami for what it did to me.
What cheers me up is thinking of the US's first flying coaster... and how weird a CERTAIN character in the queue line who spawned a term we still use today looks there...

Literally no difference in the ride, the only thing different is the theme ( which was pretty lacklustre) and the theme tune which, imo has been improved
Yes it's the same ride, just with a optional headset. But there are cons to this such as longer wait times to due the headset needing to be cleaned after every ride. Plus the headset sometimes fails to display the visuals meaning all you see is a black screen throughout the entire ride. The vr isn't even worth waiting for making the whole retheme pointless and making the ride worse.

Galacticas theme is looking tired, everything is peeling off, the tunnel Bridge is in an abysmal state, and Galacticas soundtrack is starting starting get a bit repetitive...
Oh, and I don't expect a 'space and beyond' in the middle of Staffordshire, but can believe concept of flight in Staffordshire.
Airs theme and soundtrack was beyond words, it was Stellar, languishing, just perfection for the area.
The more I hear Galacticas soundtrack, the more mediocre it becomes. The more is listen to Airs theme, the more I love it!!
I hope they rebrand it back to air with more theming to keep Forbidden Valley busy as Nemesis goes under its retrack. If Galactica made the area busy back in 2016, imagine an improved version of Airs theme.

Loved this ride so much, my first rollercoaster that had inversions. And one of the best. The soundtrack and overall theme of the ride was awesome.
And now we have Galactica, IMO, a pile of shit. The VR isnt even optional anymore so i had to take it off at the lift hill to experience the ride as i want to. The VR, other than the first part (in the meteor shower) and the end, is unrealistic, nauseating and doesnt look very good at all.

They don't even let you choose to ride without vr? Wow that's shitty and if you think Galatica's vr is bad never try the six flags vr I've seen games from the 90s that look more realistic.

No offence to the people who like Galactica but i think that its shit because the queues are longer because everyone wants to do the vr goggles which the quality is like looking though my dogs ass i just wished it was still air because i miss this theme
Now they have 2 lanes one for people who want the headsets and the other for people who don't want them. I really dislike Galactica too and the no headset queue im sorry to say the is the same waiting time for the vr. It's really nice though as on the no vr lanes they have removed the headsets so it's (kinda) air again except from the stupid portal thing outside. No offence to people who like Galactica either I just really miss the real deal. Air
