  • Great to heat military ration pack food. (so no fry ups, here) and a 100 second boil time for a brew. Fully nesting for a compact carry.
    I have refilled the empty gas canister using a butane adapter, so the jetboil is now cost effective too...bexbugoutsurvivor

    Bex off the subject I ve bought my army surplus gear, from online army surplus shops and compared prices for kit, bought stuff off ebay for the lowest price if possible.
    Because of covid no car boot sales have taken place that I know off?.
    That's how I've built up kit. I've have spent quite a bit of money on kit some new, some grade 2 etc. I've repaired some and given it a newer look. Cleaned up old boots, burned frayed threads, and sewn buttons on, stitched up tears in fabric. Even waterproofed my boots and jackets using wax. 👍🏻 🙂

How ever I have had ISO mix crap out on me at minus O Cel, No actual change in performance above freezing. I don't have any first hand knowledge but I've read several reports that you can refill these canisters with more fuel if you freeze the empty canister first and then pull it out of the freezer just before you refill it. I don't know it it really works but it cost nothing to try it out.

    • @bexbugoutsurvivor

      Yes mate, your on the money. Chill the empty canister for about 20 minutes, for a full refill. At normal room temp can just top a canister up.....bex

    Hello! Bex,
    Interesting video, 100 seconds for a brew sounds impressive. What put me off the jetboil was it always seemed top-heavy and therefore unstable and that neoprene sleeve, I always imagined it catching fire or melting from the flame in blustery weather.
    Also the link to that little adapter doesn't appear to be working. I tried three different search engines with the same result.
    It would be good to find one though, everyone likes cheap fuel. 😁

    • @bexbugoutsurvivor
      @bexbugoutsurvivor  5 лет назад

      I'm sure your concerns are unfounded. This product had been on the market for many years, with no recalls. Neaprene is fire proof, and the slabilizer triangle for the gas canister is more than sufficient, if not used by wombles.....
      If you cant find the adapters use search words into you browser. (butane gas refill adapter) key word tags will bring the product up....use google images to find the one you want. The jetboil won't suit every camp user, but only those who use rat paks this is ideal....

      Did I ever tell you that I lived on Wimbledon Common with my Uncle Bulgaria? 😊
      I have a couple of neoprene wetsuits for scuba-diving, I wasn't aware they were fire-retardant.
      Orinoko! Where are you, I have a little experiment in mind, just put this on for a minute... 😁
      I eventually found the valves, quite a disparity in the price, but I think I'll order one, thanks for the tip. ATB Steven and Uncle Bulgaria. 😁

    If you use your coffee press lid the other way round, you can use it was a steamer for veg, so I’m told!

    • @bexbugoutsurvivor
      @bexbugoutsurvivor  5 лет назад

      Umm ??/ if the press is upside down, the mesh is to the top of the pot, wouldn't get much on top,1 piece of broccoli and 6 slices of carrots maybe. Or if the press is the usual way round the weight of the veg would just pull the press into the water, and then simply boil them.(but I could be wrong) May experiment with it one night, sounds good in theory, but the practice may be flawed I think....bex

    • @bexbugoutsurvivor
      @bexbugoutsurvivor  5 лет назад +1

      The coat is a mkIII (NBC) smock =nuclear biological chemical, British army early 80 pattern. Is charcoal lined, making it totally windproof, and very warm. It will with stand quite a lot of abuse, not waterproof so I slip a poncho over it. NBC great for when its cold outdoors . Lighter than the temperate smock, but not compact to carry, so keep it on top of the snow hood of your pack bergen..ATVB .Bex

    • @bexbugoutsurvivor
      @bexbugoutsurvivor  5 лет назад +1

      Was watching it last night actually. Great effort. I personally would keep the straps behind the bladder, rather than around the front of the bladder on the outside. The reason being, as water is consumed the bladder will decrease its volume and begin to sag, causing the webbing straps to loosen.
      Also the straps being on the out side can snag on wild foliage, may rip the webbing off the bladder housing. But i'm sure you wont be crawling on your belly thru the bush, like a daft squaddie anyway.
      However i'm sure that would be personal preference, try both ways, and stick to what works for you.
      Also the drinking tube should go over the shoulder of your non dominant hand, (left handed, people equals right shoulder, but not a real issue either way, I'm a lefter so my bladder sits on the right of the bergen and the hose of the right shoulder, just makes life easier....hope this helps...Bex
