The last game I finished in my last vacation from work was a JRPG/Survival Horror Hybrid that never left Japan, called Planet Laika. It has a compelling dark sci fi plot ridden with psychological horror, unique mini-game-like fighting system and bizarre aesthetics, surely leaving a deep impression, despite its obvious imperfections. Should you do a part 3, I'd recommend giving it a look. The game has been translated by fans in 2022, so English-speaking players can enjoy it. Loving the new videos. Keep the great work. Japanese imports were the main reason I had a mod chip in my PS1. even learned to read a bit of Japanese to play them also with the exception of Cool Spot for the SNES/Genesis, Pepsiman was the best product mascot game EVER!
I thought the Firemen 1 game on Super Famicom looked so cool I imported it from Japan and I got stuck in the first five minutes. ^^; It's now on the NSW Online SNES collection, but I still can't get past the first few minutes. Umihara Kawase, on the other hand, was so much adorable fun that I have every game they released except for the PS1 version, which I am now going to see if I can track down. It should play on my PS3, I don't think it's region locked.....
I have a funny story about pepsi man. That game was somewhat of an urban legend when I was a child. Back then I used to spend my summer vacations with family in Dominican republic. The much older cousin that I most regularly stayed with told me about pepsi man and I just couldn't believe it. I would actually have him describe the game to me as if asking for a bedtime story. I never saw actual gameplay of pepsi man until it made an appearance at GDQ
It's a great series the Sayonara Umihara Kawase collection is available on steam pretty cheap. It was also on 3ds, Vita and I think PS4 probably more as well.
I see Policenaut takes some heavy inspiration from Lethal Weapon in terms of character design with the WISH version of Murtaugh and Riggs.
