Wow -- I was thrilled to see this comment! I'm a lifelong, and ever-enamored, UU, and I grew up in Pittsburgh with Mason and his brother. I have been trying to spread the news that this song is hands-down the new UU anthem, as far as I'm concerned! :)
I first learned of this song in the love jack Johnson video of him playing the first verse and chorus of this after sleep through the static. now it's one of my favorite songs.
An Indonesian Unitarian Universalist who has just now heard this song performed by Stephen Colbert and Jack Johnson is absolutely delighted!!! Thanks for uploading this!!!
I already thought this song was amazing, but with the verse beginning with, "when the prophets say they've heard, " included, which isn't on other versions I have heard, it has been elevated, for me, to the way I feel about it now. Which is that I now feel that this is one of the most profound and beautiful songs ever written.
God is about love. Regardless of religion all he wants is for us to love one another because we are in his image and he is good and loving. It isn't our place to judge those who believe differently than us or condemn them. This song makes my heart smile -3
First off, B.A. song, AWESOME! Understatement!!! Now take it to the next level. Try playing the youtube video called: Tibetan Singing Bowls and Didgeridoo Its in B flat. Its the video from: iamdidgerman Open it in a separate tab or window: Play them both at the same time and turn it up. 1 Start Mason's video first. 2 Start the other video when Mason says B flat on stage not the interview. 3 Feel GOOD! Don't b a H8R Vote on this to keep it at the top to share in the groove.
"In the end who cares, what happens will happen we are just here for awhile waiting to go on further in the journey." -founder of Chruddhintoislamoastrianism
This song doesn't even have anything to do with religion! He is just saying we should all live in harmony no matter what our beliefs are. I love you mason jennings.
If you like this song, you will probably also like "Hello Bonjour" the "Live in Pukkelpop" version, by Michael Franti, with the rapper Raphael, that's the best.
you misunderstand what Jesus meant by John 14:6 he isn't saying that worshiping him only is the only way to god the father. He is saying that as long as you trust god (the creator) you are on the path to know god. in John 14:6 he is making a connection between his teaching as truth and that trust he is not lying will bring you to god. remember his followers seem to want prof of his teachings.
@landbridge Really? The accusations of ordering assassinations, mass murder, rape and having sex with a child could be attributed to Jesus of Nazareth, Siddhārtha Gautama (the Buddha), Zoroaster, Lao Tzu or Confusious (all who were individual founders of religions or philosophies in the way that Muhammad was a single founder of a religion)??? How many decapitations exactly did Jesus or Buddha order?
@landbridge "Out of context"? The context is the issue of including Muhammed in a song along with a list of holy men who founded religions, but who NEVER harmed other individuals, NEVER ordered their followers to harm others, NEVER planned assassinations, NEVER raped anyone and NEVER had sex with a 9-year-old. Of all the people mentioned in the song Muhammad is the only one who committed these acts. Why on earth would anyone include a person with such a history with Jesus & Buddha?
Well the Bible teaches to love your enemies.. is this what the Koran teaches? BTW, true Christianity isn't a religion, it's a relationship. Sadly many(all?) Denominations practice religion. :( There is much to say about the simple truth that "God is love" though. With that said, this was/is one of my favorite songs on the album... kudos
what a cool guy. and great song. except i don't like how he said "i wondered what a current protest song sound like" protest songs come out all the time and that's how it should be. we've got new wars and new people to speak out against!
@likeyouneverheard I'm pretty much against religions cause of the wars and all the people that get killed over it. I do however believe there IS a god.
@landbridge I'm merely opposed to including Muhammad in with the list of holy, righteous, non-war-like, pacifist individuals in the song. Muhammad committed horrendous crimes. It's historical record. Ordering your followers to behead 900 people, many of them children? There's no record of anyone else mentioned in the song ever doing anything remotely close to that sort of evil? Charles Manson formed a religious following of sorts, should his name be in the song with the others?
@@dalewilbanks - No problem with the boxer Muhammad Ali (formerly Cassius Clay), but the song is referring to the religious figure and prophet - the original Muhammad because it is dedicated to a variety of other religious & philosophical leaders. The ideology of Islam (as founded by Muhammad) is the opposite of things the song is talking about - like tolerance.
This is my 2 year old's favorite bed time song... we've sang nearly every night since the day she was born
God I love this. Been sharing and watching for years. I think Jesus digs it even more
👍👍
Ever since I heard this song a few weeks ago it has been stuck in my head. Not only is it meaningful, but it's extremely catchy!

Jesus, Buddha, Mohamed all gave a like
I love this song so much but I think it would sound a little better if Jack Johnson was one of the singers ;)
I think that's 'cause it's hard to listen to this song & stay angry, or sad, or whatever.
philosophically sounds like Carl Jung
