@@nullpointer242 if you are a beginner the z2 is fine. in this price range the only other option is the mixars duo which is basically a clone for serato dj
I own this tank since 2014. i scratch with it and use it nearly everyday. I upgraded it with an innofader pnp 2 and yeah guys its a beast. Never had any problems with this mixer. I love it!!!
He is just using 2 Traktor Timecoded vinyl records which connect directly to the mixer (i think, because i have never seen this mixer in person, but he says it's a soundcard also) .. but you can just buy a Traktor Sound Card (Audio 2,4,6,8 or 10). You connect your Decks to the external sound card and then with the time coded vinyl your mp3's will (by way of some Magic Fairy Dust) play on your vinyl (you need the Traktor software of course whihc usually comes with the sound card.. :)
The tables are 1200s mk2s , yes you can use the z2 WITHOUT Traktor , yes you can plug in an x1 f1 maschine whatever you want at the same time the z2 is running ...& yes you can use any cd decks or turntables with the z2.
Definitely agree. Having been in the scene since 1990, 4-on-the-floor beats are in my heart and I can't stand what dubstep and pop media have done to the music. Everything goes through cycles though so as has been before, this phase will come and go. The true heads and supporters will stick around and continue to support the scene and music long after the trendies are gone.
and congrats to ean, to team up with riche and loco!!! those are really top top top djs for me! richie is no doubt my fav anyway... was a big suprise to see that ean would tour with them...
i'm super excited....just ordered a pair of stanton str8 150's and the z2 mixer. just informed my order has shipped...yay ! been doin' my thing with my ns7...which i still love..but it will now take a back seat to them stantons and the z2.
I totally agree with you nick, thinking real hard about getting rid of S4 for this baby and throw an F1 in to the mix to !!! 4 channels would be the icing on the cake.
I'm a laptop dj but I don't use the sync button, thank you very much. I hate how people just assume that laptop or vdj users use sync and that's it. It gets quite annoying. I know a fair few others that don't use it either. We actually all just covered it up or mapped it to something else.
Dear Hater, if you don't agree with what tech tools is doing, why subscribe? The man was able to forge a great business for himself and all you can do is hate. There are a lot things on this site that aren't for me. I just move on to the next thing. I've been a DJ since 1972 and am always looking to learn. If what they're doing on here don't apply, let it fly
From the website DJTechtools which Ean Golden Owns. The faders and knobs are called "Chroma Caps" and can be found in the DJTechtools Store! Hope that helps!
some of the controls on the mixer are MIDI assignable so you could tailor them to meet your needs but since there aren't many knobs/buttons, you'll be limited by what you can do with just the mixer.
Wow, its exciting to see a mixer like this, especially with innofader crossfaders. I have an innofader in my mixer and I love it. I just wish they would come up with a solution to the usb 2.0 problem with the new macbook pros not having usb2.0 and all the native instruments products requiring it. It seems that the macbook pro is an excellent laptop for traktor, so its unfortunate that the 2 don't work together very well with the new macbooks. Thanks
Hello Ean, how good is this mixer for scratching? Traktor will come with it as well correct or do I have to buy that separately? Thanks for the awesome video reviews!
Which do you prefer? Pioneer DDJ T1 OR Traktor Z2 with a set of vinyls or cdj's? I'm looking to upgrade from a mixtrack but i dont wanna go to serato because traktor has so much more options. Any help?
You could run it either way, as a dedicated Digital Mixer running through your PC or Mac (with or without Turntables or CDJs) or you could run it with Turntables or CDJs without a Computer in a fully analogue setup.
WHY no 4 channels on the mixer? I understand the 2+2 concept but I have been hoping and praying N.I. would release a 4-channel version. Maybe a Z4 is in the works?
No, im not confusing it with usb 3.0. The recent models are usb 3.0. They are supposed to be "backwards compatible" but I have read that Native Instruments hardware does not work properly with those "backwards compatible" ports. I think it may be a driver issue, but I'm not sure. It seems that it is a problem to be resolved on Native Instruments' end. I don't own one, so I couldn't tell you for sure, but I have read about it in NI forums and there have definitely been some issues.
Hello Ean can you tell us when can we get those other effects on this video ex, roll flutter, shape twister, vokalkrush, water fountain. Will Traktor release these effects? Thank you for all your videos.
can one seamlessly mix between analog vinyl and digital? let's say i have one turntable with timecode vinyl controlling the deck, can i switch the other turntable to analog and put a real record on and mix between the 2? i'm looking for a setup to complement my analog setup rather than replace it. so i want to keep playing real vinyl but every once in a while if i wanna play some digital tracks in the mix i can do that too (i know i'll have to have my laptop) also just to confirm this can work as a completely standalone 2 channel analog mixer right?
Timecoded CDs and Vinyls are included, the Hardware to play them is not, so you would need a pair of turntables or CDJs for manual operation if you didnt want to utilise the Traktor softwares dedicated onboard mixing platform on its own.
i have some questions! 1st... whats the song at the end?? 2nd.. are the faders like on the s4 or s2?? coz lots ofpeople i know with those, one of their faders allways started buggin, sooner or later... and will there be a 4 deck mixer like this ? shure they clame that this can be used with 4 decks... but no reall four deck user is gonna use this! not that i am one of those, yet, but im def not gonna learn it with this...
yeah I hadn't actually checked it out yet. I'm looking around the NI site to see how current Traktor 2.5 people can upgrade without buying the Z2 but nothing so far. I'm itching to get at those Macro FX
Liking the Flux mode effect on the loop, not sure about the macro FX yet though, unless you can configure your own combinations - that would be sweet. Dependent on price, I could go for this.
Is the mixer midi mapple? I would like to be able to hook up serato for video SL if I want to. Not saying that would hook up a serato soundcard to it If Im just mixing music :)
Hi, great review, but I do have a question. I think it may have been covered but I just wanna check. So with the integrated soundcard I don't need to buy the Traktor A6 interface to run the software on the laptop? I see you are plugged straight into the laptop from the mixer, but I don't need the interface even for old skool analogue vinyl? Cheers
...but I can't compare this unit to a DJMxxxx, maybe we can make a comparison between the Pioneer DJM-T1 and the Z2, is the Z2 equal or superior to DjM-T1 iyo?
DJM800, DJM900, DJM1000, Xone mixers etc.. the Z2 seems more like a personal mixer as part of a self contained rig but like I said it isn't going to replace the mixers that most clubs use - still good for home and professional use though
Can you give me the measurements from turntable 1 to turntable 2 including the mixer to see if they fit on my table please? Please measure the length and also the depth. Thanks.
I need to 'unmap' the automatic filter on/off that the factory mapping of Z2 has on the filter knobs. At the moment if I turn the filter from 12 o'clock the filter automatically switches on. If I switch it off with my newly mapped filter on off knobs it turns on again as soon as I move the filter knob just a bit. I tried remapping the Filter knobs to only filter control which didn't help. Is there any other command that I did not see? Any other Ideas?
Could you explain me this - If I want to use turntables with digital vinyl (traktor scratch control vinyl), do I also need the external DVS soundcard (like scratch A6 or A10) added to the whole setup, or is it like integrated in this mixer ?
+Edgars Ļebedevs - The Z2 has built in scratch and a soundcard so plugging in a turntable is honestly as easy as putting 2 phono leads in placing the timecode vinyls on and hitting play! You wont need an external soundcard unless you want to have 4 timecode decks
I would agree with ya, can't say that using traktor is for amatuer i think ppl using usb sticks is i have my whole music in the last 6yrs all in key i can search for any track, i learnt on vinyl 8 yrs ago and gone with the times laptop with serato (vinyl) then ableton and traktor as think it suits more what i want to do, firing sample's like in ableton mixing, i'm learning to scratch so as long as you do more with ya time then happy days, just think every setup suits ppl's needs differently
this mixer has been out for 8 years and it's still amazin
You consider this already a good current mixer?
@@FilippoMidali What would be a better mixer ? I am considering to buy one in the next days :-)
the mixer is great but traktor isnt anymore. every other software is so far ahead of traktor...

This is the best Native Instruments Mixer. I dont think they know that.

Yes check out the record functions in the options. You can set it up to the soundcard on the mixer if it has a built in one as well.
I think I will go with the Z2 over the S5 for my portable/backup mixer to the S8 which I love but is too big to take on the plane! Great review!

Hey Ean, what're the differences between this (Z2) and the DJM-T1? Which one is better?
Hell yeah, new features and THEY ARE MIDI MAPABLE! He said it right?
Hi guys, how is this regarding to latency connecting direct CDJ input?
I see thay they are more additional Macro effects how so you get those? For exame the "slow bubble","shapetwister" I don't have those!
I've been wanting this for a while too.

Does this have the same crossfader/faders as the S4? If so in my opinion Rane's Serato mixers will have the edge
Will you be able to use any cdj's with traktor as well as the mixer without it being in analogue mode?
Quick question... Do the Knobs And faders DJTT sells, fit all mixers?

can i connect Traktor S4 that i own to a USB hub on the Z2 ?? will it work just as a controller not as an audio card, i would use the Z2 for that...

you can adjust it in the software in the options panel. :)
can you use knobs without flying away hands on this controller? or is there some force that pushes the hands away?

Have you seen the price for Pioneer mixers?!
usb is backward compatible, also all the recent macbook models support usb 2.0. perhaps you are confusing it with usb 3.0?
It does have MIDI through the USB. Do you mean MIDI in/out connections?
so if i have this z2 i can use my maschine mikrofor extra cue points?
Don't you have to buy the traktor scratch pro software in order to get the 4 deck option?
sooo goood demo bro... seriously...
Can you make a full mix version from your Z2 video performance ??
I'm nervous to transfer to the z2, but i like challenges. time to move up to a bigger better world of djing
the macros are like the color fx on pioneer mixers if you think about it
Do the blue usb cables come with the z2? Or do I have to buy them separately?

Just got one used and it’s the truth truth 😎😎😎
any idea when the new effects will be released?

works well , good price ,innofaders
Still, gotta respect the places it all started!
Wait a second, when switching to deck C & D on the hardware does that include the faders and parameters??
Love my Z2!!
What turntable do you use? Please tell me!
You guys need to make the fader knobs plastic. It's hard to do scratch with the rubber coating.
were can u buy the panels i really want to see if i can buy them for my z2
