I cant wait to see what you come up with! I really enjoy your channel! Thats the joys of modeling and being an artist; beginning over with a new plan and a new vision! I am super excited for your new layout and vision! Cheers
Excellent video which addresses some common, yet overlooked issues for many railroaders. the first issue, I call 'urban railroading' - when you rent a space or you might sell your house, so your layout needs to have some mobility as part of its design. The other issue is the seemingly never-ending learning curve of the hobby- we learn so much from each layout we construct so that even before we finish, we want to start again armed with our new skills and new ideas regarding layout infrastructure and design. Regarding mobility, I am a renter so I built my layout on three 2'x4' sections, which can be disassembled and moved by one person individually, without any help. As for the learning curve and the persistent desire to start over, I find being patient, enjoying the "thinking about it" aspect, not being too hasty or hell bent on 'finishing' helps me enjoy the process rather than fixate on the product. I take my time and enjoy every stop along the road. If I think of something I wish to add to the layout, but am unable to because my infrastructure doesn't allow for it, I let that go, as I know that one day, I will build another layout and will be able to implement those ideas. This vid really got my wheels turnin! My comments might not help anyone, as we all approach the hobby from a slightly different angle. But you never know, so I posted it. Thanks for the interesting vid :)
Yes, to every bit of that. For me it’s less about a desire for more, or something new as it is to invest more time into something that’s already served it’s purpose. Sure adding more and more cheese to pizza sounds perfectly normal, but eventually you have to say ok, that’s enough cheese. Conceptually, I’ve pretty much worked out future projects, but time, materials and space swing a larger axe than desires and dreams. Thanks my friend.
Your layout might not be functional the way you were hoping it would be, but you’ve taken some awesome videos and still pictures with this shelf layout, showcasing all your talent in scenery and scratch building. Keep using it for that purpose while you create your new layout. You enjoy photography, so please don’t stop with the wonderful content you’ve provided on RUclips. I always look forward to watching each one of your posts, especially your scratch building techniques. Keep them coming! Thanks.
Thanks so much. I too have enjoyed the past few years working on this and my passion and desire for photography and building models will always remain a driving focus in my life. The channel will continue to operate as normal even if the layout doesn’t.
None of it was wasted time, it was a great diorama-type layout, and you have mad skills for scenery, track, wiring, weathering, and photography. Looking forward to seeing how you combine those skills with your vision for the next operating layout. Here for the ride! - Paul
Sometimes a change is the driver of creativity. I spent literally years trying to come up with an OO scale layout that I thought would be satisfying for what I want. It took the move to HO and into the unknown to really start to build some solid ideas. You have to just take inspiration as it comes and not try to force ideas onto yourself. I look forward to seeing where you take it next.
I hope you find a satisfying track arrangement that will allow for the kind of operations you like. If you may move at some point, using separable, reasonably portable sections might be a good idea. Cheers from Wisconsin!
I think you forgot the most important thing, how exciting it is to create some better and new! :) … and maybe more portable too in case you move(that’s why I am building a 2’x16’… easy to fit in most garages. This layout is awesome but the next one will be that much more awesomer! 🎉 I hear ya on the track plan, my last layout I switched a few times to get the track plan I wanted and what I thought was fun to run(much more important on smaller layouts). Best of luck on the new one, I can’t wait to see it… I know it’s going to be epic! 🤠👍
I for one am SO glad you are going to focus on track work as part of your new layout. With your talents, it should be an easy thing to build your own turnouts with shorter, code 70 or even lighter rail. I've built 2 code 40 turnouts for n scale and they actually work although they are nothing to look at! If me, with no talent can build them, I'm sure you can! It killed me to look at the Atlas code 100 on your beautifully scenicked and detailed layout! What convinced me that smaller rail is more appealing was looking at pic of a 2 rail O scale locomotive sitting on code 100 rail! Anxious to see what you come up with!
Okay, I get it but if you ever build another one and decide that you don’t want it, get in touch with me because I would buy it and put it into a bigger layout. Your scenery work is so incredible that I could practice for years and never rival it. My father in law was a gifted artist and never thought his work was anything exceptional. I think people with artistic talent seem to think that everyone can do it but we can’t. I look forward to what you build next. Than you for sharing this layout/diorama with us. It was magnificent.
Composition is something that I had to study and learn for art and photography. It’s like anything else, it takes time and practice. If we try, we can all achieve a higher level.
I can tell you , "we all do it" !! It's the... "decision", that we all face , which in modeling, makes us all , better modelers. Model. ..away , my friend 👍 DD
So... We're here, all of us, after The Heat Death of The OJUS Park Universe, but before The Big Bang of whatever universe is next? Very interesting! I'll say that I have certainly enjoyed being along for the ride. While we're all telling Our Truth, I might as well admit that the profile photo next to this comment is something like twenty years old, so, I guess there's been a variable amount of time travel going on, in my case, and not at the usual rate of One Second Per Second. Thanks very much for all the fish. (That's a Douglas Adams, Hitchhikers Guide to the Universe reference, for any uninitiated readers.) This bit of surrealism is cosponsored by Netflix and Charlie Booker, whose show Black Mirror, especially S06E01, "Joan Is Awful," which I finished watching just before bouncing over here to the UJUS-verse. Cheers, y'all! 🔥❤😂👍👍
That’s awesome Christopher. You are definitely one of the ones that has been here from the beginning and for that I thank you. The most time consuming part has always been the decision making and I really feel like jumping off here is the right decision. Btw, my dad read me HGTTG when I was a kid, which may explain a lot about my personality.
Start a new one in my opinion. But keep it to a switching shelf layout so if you do move you can take it with you. Always hard to start from fresh but once you do, you’ll be glad you did. Whatever you make next will be better because of all the experience you developed. Not that the one you’re showing isn’t great.
PM, saw this the other day but hate tapa typing on tablet. Soooo what direction you thinking about going? Have you looked at N scale lately especially if you're space challenged. N scale has come a long long way. 👍😁OperateOnOperator BTW your trees look damn Good👍👍
In all honesty, I have no idea what comes next because I don’t know how long I’ll be living here. It’s been nice not having the burden of making crucial decisions for the past few days though. N scale would be fine if I didn’t enjoy scratch building details so much. Ho is probably as small as I can go.
Yeah, It’s also 2 1/2 years later, Pappy. It wasn’t this way when I started. I struggled with all this stuff, but I didn’t give up and worked at learning as much as I could. It’s been a journey and I’ve tried to share as much of that as I could for the past year.
Thanks Chris, but the wood was free, the turnouts were free and all I’ve got in the board is wire, scenery and a few pieces of straight track. Everything else i can recycle. Cost is minimal at this point.
Adding to it won’t change the problem, which it was that I didn’t have a good plan from the start. The time and work it would take would be about the same as it would to do something else.
I cant wait to see what you come up with! I really enjoy your channel! Thats the joys of modeling and being an artist; beginning over with a new plan and a new vision!
I am super excited for your new layout and vision!
Cheers
Thank you! I don’t know when I’ll be able to actually start another project, but the planning should keep me busy for a while.
Goodnight Ojus Park! I totally get why you're doing this. Looking forward to the next chapter. Cheers!
I keep it around and who knows, it may make an appearance in the future.

In regards to your boat comparison, you’ve made this scene-worthy. A very good practice layout.
It’s fun to look at, but not a practical model railroad

Thank you so much for all the kind words, Paul, I really appreciate it and can hopefully live up to the hype.
Looking forward to what you do next!
Thanks Eric.

Thanks Andrew, I appreciate the tips.
Good. I’m excited to see what you come up with next.
Thanks for all of your support over the past year my friend.

Try selling it to recoup some of your money.
Thanks Chris, but the wood was free, the turnouts were free and all I’ve got in the board is wire, scenery and a few pieces of straight track. Everything else i can recycle. Cost is minimal at this point.
Could you add to this layout to make it more functional for you ? I know this was a test for you but it would be a shame to trash it. Take care
