TO ANYONE WHO DOESN'T HAVE THE TIME 1. Do not draw hair individually strand by strand! 2. Instead get the basic shape of the form! The main silhouette! 3. Inside that main hair shape roughly place your light and shadow shapes! 4. Define those lights and darks! If you dont have it as dark as you would want don't worry! Layer it! Patience is key! 5. Don't forget about edges! Hard and soft edges, there must be a balance! Don't overdo the smudging! 6.Retouching, highlights and all that jazz

i used to do these charcoal rubbing drawings, but they are a bitch to move around and stuff.. even with spray fix. the results are fantastic, and really good for learning shading. the best trick is to transfer that knowledge to other mediums. Great video! thanks for sharing!

if you don't mind what kind of eraser did you use because I saw in your description a kneaded eraser on amazon but I saw you used an hard eraser which erase very nice sharp edges. Thank you very much.

No need to buy expensive tools. You can make do with just a charcoal eraser and a folded piece of paper - to create edges for smudging.
If you insist on stumps, you can roll a piece of paper into a tube as tightly as you can and use that, too.

Kneaded erasers. Any brand would do the work. Just shape it up and hold it at the very edge to make it hard enough to do the work.
