Oh, Kim. I am so encouraged by your willingness to plan ahead for your kids to come home again at some point. My family of six had to move in with my aging parents when the pandemic began. 2 weeks turned into 3 years. My mother had Alzheimer’s and us being here was just the best thing for everyone. Now that she has passed, my dad and I still agree that this is the best arrangement. It has been a lot AND It has been a blessing for all of us in so many ways!
My mum lives on a double block. She wishes she bought in a better area for work and closer to us because now in hindsight she would have built a tiny home at the back of her block so we could live there and not be spending half our wages on rent. I wish!

I showed my fiancé (who is pretty well-versed in home construction) the issue you are having with the load-bearing wall and he said that as long as they put a big enough header on it, it will be fine and that there is no reason they should need to put a column there. He said if they tell you that's the only solution, fire them lol.

I want her to be around me forever and never move out too lol Both now and before my husband was taken from us, we spoke highly of multi-generational living. It makes sense in so many ways. I completely understand your thoughts regarding a potential multi-family home and wanting everyone to feel comfortable with staying/returning. Its literally what my brain always comes back to when considering properties. With the way the world is going financially, it makes me nervous about the future and its a dream of mine for us all (kids/parents/siblings) to feel secure with our living arrangements.
DNA is so cool, I agree. My hubby and I are both dark brunette and my daughter came out of the womb with bright red hair, she’s still a redhead at 2.5years old. Turns out my hubby’s grandpa and both my great grandmas were red heads.
I am thrilled to see the progress on the addition. I can't believe how long it has taken, but it looks amazing 😍. I also love that you are thinking ahead. I always stress to my children that our home will always be their home no matter what. They will ALWAYS have a place. It's a secure feeling for a kid, I think, and allows them to dream big and pursue big.
I love your prospective Kim! I wish multi family homes were more common in North America. It’s mutually beneficial for everyone. I would love to have parents that would happily welcome you home if needed. People act like it’s crazy to live with your parents in your 20s here.

I feel your excitement! We live in a 100+ year old bungalow type house up here in MI. It’s bigger than it looks but no open concept. We have four adult children. They have been back to live like yo-yo’s. Between jobs, to pay off bills, going to college including grandchild, and last time, my daughter, husband, child etc because their house sold fast before they were able to buy another. Ours is a free revolving door. I have loved being their safe place. So I love your attitude about being there for your children. It’s also their inheritance we we are no longer here. ❤️ They do help pay something if they can but it is not a requirement.
I hope to be like this! My children will always be welcome back! “Revolving door” is such a great way to put it. I had to go back to my parents because of circumstances years ago but I was not welcome. It was just to keep me from being homeless so they wouldn’t have a guilty conscious but made well aware I wasn’t very welcome and they were doing me a “favor”

As a widow I sold my large house, and moved into a smaller condo. It was hard loosing the big rooms!! But so far my son and his daughter have lived here. After he found a place for them my daughter and her 4 kids came and after she moved on my grandson his wife and my great granddaughter came to stay. He asked for a roof over his head for at least a year. The year has come and gone and they are still here!! I joke that I am running a family hotel😂😂 but I wouldn't have it any other way. As far as I'm concerned my door is always open. No child or grandchild of mine will ever be homeless. Now I think of how if I had my old house...everyone could live with me comfortably. The joy I get from having grandkids and 1 little great overwhelms me!. You are wise to plan ahead with big enough rooms to accommodate your kids and future spouse's....and your life will be fulfilled if they ever come back home❤❤absolutely the best thing in my life!!!
So fun seeing the addition progress! Wahoo!! This past week was awful....our dog passed away and my almost 2 year old broke his leg on the same day! 😭It has been so hard. So grateful for the fun brain break this morning. ❤

Omg the first day of school! That was fast! Did anyone else get butterflies when hearing “today is the first day of school”? 😅 seeing the progress on the new addition has given me hope lol. I’ve been out of my place since February to just get kitchen, bath and closet renovated 😩. I left home at 6months pregnant and now my baby is 3 months and we’re still not home 😪. So excited to see how far they’ve gotten in the Wad’s home! 🎉 Also adding- I didn’t realize how big of a project this was hahaha I thought it was just the closets and a hall and new bedroom! WOW!

Enjoyed the videos. When I was a kid in the 1960, my grandmother got me hooked on Jif peanut butter. We would go see her Saturday mornings and she would make Jif peanut butter toast and hot tea. Now on in my 60’s and still enjoy Jif pb&j sandwiches. I tried them energy balls so good. I freeze them and take along for walks. Love the addition shots. Blessings to you all.

I agree. We are moved to a multi generational family. We actually built a small apartment on our land. Big enough for 4, full kitchen, bath etc. We always have one of our adult kids moving in and out. Best investment we made.

Hey Kim, after the house is done, you still can add a window in Eleanor’s room. Just use a different contractor of course 😂. We added a window to our house, it was allowed in our county building code….. I’m not sure of the right words, but my point is, you may still be able to put it in….so, I’m adding comments as I’m watching your video…I just renovate my in-laws bathroom. I picked out the same black pebble tile for the shower. Annnnd, it hurts everyone’s feet. It looks fabulous….but it makes me so sad because it hurts. So you might want to rethink it.
So the 'pebble' tile for their shower is flat - its the same as we have in our shower, easy to clean and nice to step on. Wentworth's shower tile is rounded pebble and.. not a fan. lol
Kim, I love the addition! My husband and I own a 3 bed/2 bath and when my good friend lost her job, we invited her to move into our upstairs bedroom with it’s own bath. I’m grateful that we had the space to be able to accommodate her. 🥰

Got teary-eyed when you brought up how the kids might bring their families home to stay in those big rooms. I have been evacuated for 4 days now due to a wild fire. Never in a million years did I even think I would have to evacuate with my family and we are now staying with our parents. You said the words “you never know what will happen” and that’s the truth! I don’t know what we would do if we didn’t have our family to stay with right now. We evacuated in the middle of the night and without blinking, my in-laws were there and ready for us. Thank you for always being true to yourself because with many, it’s extremely relatable and a lot of people need that right now! Love your videos! Can we have more clips of your husband scaring you with your reaction?? My husband does that to me all the time and I die laughing every time!!
I always thought the baseboards go on after the flooring is installed?? It's going to be SO nice when everything is all done! How exciting!!! Super smart idea to think about the possibility of a multifamily situation. We've been talking about buying a big enough house or land to move our brood into...we have 6 kids, 6 spouses and 10 grandkids, so it's a tall order, but we strongly feel the urgency of all being safe in one place with a roof over everyone's heads.

Ok, I said it! LOL We now live soooo close to our 2 sons and grandson, and that has made the exhaustion worth it. We get together on Sundays at our house, and our younger son, who is an Executive Chef, does the cooking! Yay me! And you’re so smart thinking long term about where life takes us all, especially our children. My husband and I bought our current home with the same thoughts. It’s way too big for the 2 of us, but it’s large enough for our sons, and their families to move in should they need to. Thank you for always putting an extra happy in my day! Addition is coming along wonderfully. I found it very odd, however, that they installed floor molding before they laid flooring. Usually the molding sits on top of the flooring. Curious how they will remedy that. We put a huge addition on our home after we had our 7th child. Huge kitchen, more bedrooms etc. We were concerned about all the ROOM when the children left. But then came grandbabies. #19 arrived in June so all the rooms and the very large kitchen really paid off and we are thankful to have all the space for Holidays, family gatherings and sleepovers
13:15 Kim, You and Alex warm my heart, you are “the woman across the room” for me. If I was ever a mom, I would wanna be a mom like you. You’re kids are very lucky to have you both. It’s so touching that you want your kids to be close always and to be comfortable in their home now and in the future. I do agree with you. I think multi generation living is the future too. Enjoyed the videos. When I was a kid in the 1960, my grandmother got me hooked on Jif peanut butter. We would go see her Saturday mornings and she would make Jif peanut butter toast and hot tea. Now on in my 60’s and still enjoy Jif pb&j sandwiches. I tried them energy balls so good. I freeze them and take along for walks. Love the addition shots. Blessings to you all.

I agree. We are moved to a multi generational family. We actually built a small apartment on our land. Big enough for 4, full kitchen, bath etc. We always have one of our adult kids moving in and out. Best investment we made.

Hey Kim, after the house is done, you still can add a window in Eleanor’s room. Just use a different contractor of course 😂. We added a window to our house, it was allowed in our county building code….. I’m not sure of the right words, but my point is, you may still be able to put it in….so, I’m adding comments as I’m watching your video…I just renovate my in-laws bathroom. I picked out the same black pebble tile for the shower. Annnnd, it hurts everyone’s feet. It looks fabulous….but it makes me so sad because it hurts. So you might want to rethink it.
So the 'pebble' tile for their shower is flat - its the same as we have in our shower, easy to clean and nice to step on. Wentworth's shower tile is rounded pebble and.. not a fan. lol

Kim, I love the addition! My husband and I own a 3 bed/2 bath and when my good friend lost her job, we invited her to move into our upstairs bedroom with it’s own bath. I’m grateful that we had the space to be able to accommodate her. 🥰

And... OMG...Wolfgang is already a RUclips sensation, but he is the first of your kids to make eye contact with the camera and connect with your audience so directly. I know he's just looking at his own image, but it seems like he is really interested in something. I wonder if he has advanced cognitive abilities related to mirror neurons and communicating. It's a little startling to watch him. Then he smiles and it is so sweet to see how much he loves his mommy.

Got teary-eyed when you brought up how the kids might bring their families home to stay in those big rooms. I have been evacuated for 4 days now due to a wild fire. Never in a million years did I even think I would have to evacuate with my family and we are now staying with our parents. You said the words “you never know what will happen” and that’s the truth! I don’t know what we would do if we didn’t have our family to stay with right now. We evacuated in the middle of the night and without blinking, my in-laws were there and ready for us. Thank you for always being true to yourself because with many, it’s extremely relatable and a lot of people need that right now! Love your videos! Can we have more clips of your husband scaring you with your reaction?? My husband does that to me all the time and I die laughing every time!!

I always thought the baseboards go on after the flooring is installed?? It's going to be SO nice when everything is all done! How exciting!!! Super smart idea to think about the possibility of a multifamily situation. We've been talking about buying a big enough house or land to move our brood into...we have 6 kids, 6 spouses and 10 grandkids, so it's a tall order, but we strongly feel the urgency of all being safe in one place with a roof over everyone's heads.
Kim, this is so exciting! And it's getting me pumped for our own addition going in so soon. We've been waiting forever, and they're finally coming out on Monday to mark out where to dig for our BASEMENT!! WOOO! So excited for us!

I hope your kids have a wonderful school year! I’m so excited to see the addition to your home complete! My hubby and I finally feel settled in our new home, but can I just say how tired we are?! Ok, I said it! LOL We now live soooo close to our 2 sons and grandson, and that has made the exhaustion worth it. We get together on Sundays at our house, and our younger son, who is an Executive Chef, does the cooking! Yay me! And you’re so smart thinking long term about where life takes us all, especially our children. My husband and I bought our current home with the same thoughts. It’s way too big for the 2 of us, but it’s large enough for our sons, and their families to move in should they need to. Thank you for always putting an extra happy in my day! Addition is coming along wonderfully. I found it very odd, however, that they installed floor molding before they laid flooring. Usually the molding sits on top of the flooring. Curious how they will remedy that.
We put a huge addition on our home after we had our 7th child. Huge kitchen, more bedrooms etc. We were concerned about all the ROOM when the children left. But then came grandbabies. #19 arrived in June so all the rooms and the very large kitchen really paid off and we are thankful to have all the space for Holidays, family gatherings and sleepovers

So glad to see progress on your addition! It’s time for those kids to get their new rooms!! You are so genuine and realistic about your children’s needs and the possibility of life bringing them back to the nest. We have our eldest grandson (23) living with us as well as our daughter, hubby, and their two littles due to life things. It works and everyone is happy and well adjusted!
