One handed is actually my favorite because of its practical use and its energy generation that most weapons typically carry. Medium damage, easy patterns, great feel, plus those Katana finishers man.
@@tigerlike7472 Gotta love the Gaia lancer. That thing packs a mean punch quite quickly, and its energy generation isn't half bad. I also use hammers a lot. The AID11 overseer is the best one. You can find it in the Aid command base, near the top of the building where you can find warren. Also i find the double duty weapons a lot of fun, especially against groups of enemies. Don't use it against really heavy enemies though, as they will hit you before you can stagger them. Maybe if you use the spark double duty weapon with 3 pieces of galvanizer gear to boost your electric stun damage, you can use it against heavy enemies. I find the spear really good at one on one fights, and the hammer is great at taking on bosses with that R2 R1 R1 infinite combo. You can kill the bosses extremely fast with that attack, especially if you target an unarmored body part. I generally use the spear for taking out body part to farm gear.
@@Instrulnomical I wouldn't be surprised. A spear is a very versatile weapon. Combine speed, range, and good choreography in the hands of a skilled user, and no one can touch you. If the spear is this good in the surge 2, which is just a futuristic souls like game, imagine what it can do in a game that was designed for you to use spears a lot. The skill ceiling with using spears is quite high, and really deadly in the hands of a pro. What good is a sword, when you can't even get close enough to use it, am i right? If a spear is available in a game, you bet i'd use it. It's my most used weapon in the surge 2.
Awesome video and to the point information. Now, after playing the game for a few hours I completely agree with your assessment. In Surge 1 single rigged PAX v2 was my go-to weapon followed by twin rigged, and other weapon types were really lacking. I am delighted to see that in Surge 2 they have added the much-needed weapons variety and all weapon types are fun and effective. Here are my favorites in the following order: 1. Spear 2. Twin Rigged 3. Staff 4. Double Duty
Noname all the weapons with their charged attack gives off huge blood borne vibes. The weapons you can get from warden Garcia feels like the starter axe in blood borne. Not only with the sound that it makes when charged, but also the weapon animation it self.
I totally agree with this ranking overall. My two go-to weapon types in this game are the twin-rigged (which was one of my favs from the first game) and new favorite being the spear in the sequel. I upgraded the Gaia Spear to Mk VII and just poke away at enemies and when I see an opening, go into the spin combo with the R1 and wail away. The block timing for directional blocks on the larger enemies is fairly easy to get the hang of with the spear as well, so you can play tanky-blocky or put on some lighter gear with less stamina cost for evade and dance around enemies if you want.
On the Staff, R1 R2 R1 R2 is one of the best crowd-management combos in the game. The horizontal strikes are wide sweeps, and the vertical strikes are both slams. Excellent for the drive in or anywhere you have to fight three or more enemies at once.
I'm really digging the spear and mastered most of the different combos it has to offer. I'm constantly staggering enemies especially with the one spear shown in the video which has paralyzing effect and shocks mobs and even humanoid bosses for a few seconds. Combined with implants that raise dmg+effect of lightning this is a really op weapon.
Yea I wasn't a fan of the weapons in Surge 1, but the spear in Surge 2 definitely feels much better than the rest. I just wish they had 2h swords and Dual Swords to pick from as well. I mained Zweihander for the most part in Dark Souls and it sucks that there isn't anything similar in this and while I like the speed of dual rigged, I wish it had more reach (hence dual swords)
@@zombie1016 Should see what a hammer can do on bosses, when you target an unarmored body part with the R2 R1 R1 combo. It does immense amounts of damage. Also boomstick neglected to tell us a feature of the hammer. If you target a head or arm with a hammer, and hold R2 down until your guy leaps towards the enemy, he will leap really far and do a slam that hits the enemy twice. The leap is a bit further than the range of a sprinting attack with a spear. So you can catch enemies off guard, and before they even start an attack.
Also if you want a really OP gear set up try using the MG Cerberus head and arms with SCARAB chest and legs. Both offer a 3 peace bonus which increases your defense and stability on top of that the scarab legs offer great stamina conservation along side the cerberus's damage and impact increases

Hammers are very powerful and strike a fine balancing act between swords and heavy-duty. Not to mention the charge attack at 3:05 has a very long jumping range that can floor enemies.
I think it's important for anyone looking for a good weapon to run to note that while a certain weapon type can be better or worse by default there are a lot more variables to take inbto account before picking your own go to weapon, the element attached to a weapon for one can be a big deal and that's not even mentioning a fair number of special weapons like the boss specific weapons that have hidden perks that elevate them well above the rest in that weapon class, just as an example the gloves you get by overkilling Erza get faster with every punch or the Iron Mouse Gloves that do more damage with every hit that lands in a single combo.
@@TheOldMan-75 I almost only used single-rigged weapons in surge1 because they were faster than heavy-duty, yet still were able to cause staggers to the enemies quite often. Like single-rigged weapons are easy to use and easy to master.

I'd love to use the heavy weapons but the wind-ups are so slow. The staff got me through the Surge 1 in the end. I was loving the speed & reach. Animations are looking nice in the sequel. Can't wait to get my hands on it now. Thanks for the tips
Same. I always use greatswords in Dark Souls, and so when I played the first Surge, I went for the single-rigged. But its combo is too long that I always get caught out stuck in the combo animation. Changed to the staff and loved it, especially the stabby attack combo. The spear in Surge 2 then became the perfect weapon for me. Long ranged poking is great against enemies and bosses, combine that with low stamina consumption, you're pretty much untouchable. Jab, dodge away, jab, dodge away.
There different kind of hammers n one handed too. Move sets are different. I wanna say it’s like: One handed: Daggers n Swords Hammers: Axe n Hammer Love the vid btw. Gr8 job!
Just finished the game.. My favourite top 3 weapons are Spear, One-handed and Twin Rigged... Spear is the most versatile one... fast and good for crowd control... one handed and twin rigged good for individual target..
Helpful tip to make the archangle endgame boss really easy to beat: just use the cerberus head and arms with SCARAB chest and legs. Once youve unclocked the med station just outside the boss entrance farm those 2 nano warriors you have to kill before you can go to the boss fight until you can upgrade all of your gear to max level. You literally just have to stand there and wreck that guy until hes dead and juat heal from time to time. Because while the last boss has a dificult to read movement pattern making his attacks hard to block they dont deal a tone of damage and dont have allot of impact so if your defense and stability is high enough you can just stand there attacking him and healing and because youre constantly attcking him your energy is constantly being reatored so you have infinite heals. Just make sure to destroy his left arm because he uses that for heavy attacks that can knock you down.
This was very well done. I just got into the game as it was on sale in the PS STORE and this is one of the better souls-like on the market..so farm I'm using the staff/spear for most encounters and this heavy duty weapon I got off a patrol dog for parrying.
Honestly, I like the spears well enough but they're way too weak at staggering things and the stun from electricity can't be chained, plus the damage on electric spears is otherwise mediocre, so I really don't find them to be overly strong. Imo you're generally better off using either a heavier electric weapon, or using the 3-piece Spark Galvanizer set bonus for electric damage with a stronger fast physical weapon like Ungula Universalis or General's A.C.U. V2.0, so that you can either stagger things easily when they're not electrified, or electrify them quickly and hope to do enough damage to finish them off before they break out
These games were so balanced that I always found myself cycling through the weapon classes throughout both games and normally I always stick to one or weapon classes in other games. These 2 games were so F$%&ing GOOD!!!!!
I just finished the game. Used only the punching gloves and spear...and pressed R2 only in the last battle because I wanted the V2. Finished the game and there was no need to use anything but the basic R1 combo. -_- Still enjoyed the game.
With Ironmaus punching gloves, ironmaus partial suit bonus and MG cerberus hands you can get impact of 82 with pretty high damage and attack speed. Although you end up running around in a dorky outfit, in NG+ you can chain-stagger almost anything with this to death.
I am so gonna fall in love with this game. Especially now that I can finally make a dual-wielding 'double-rigged' weapon as my go-to weapon of choice. Not to mention there are some other good weapon styles to try out too, so it feels like a win win.
Dude you completely missed the strongest point of the Hammer : the vertical charge attack doesn't just "have pretty good reach", if you fully charge it, it has monstrous reach for perfect gap-closing, increased damage and a small aoe shockwave, hitting enemies twice in one move (tho the attack is different if you target the body or legs). You can basically cheese most enemies with it.
good vid, just a quick tip, instead of saying R1, R2, use horizontal, vertical because not everyone is on PS and the game let's you remap your buttons, it makes it easier for your viewers.
Gotta disagree with not just the score for Single-Rigged weapons, but the evaluation as well. When you consider that they're tied with Heavy Duty for the highest impact in the game, they're actually pretty quick (and I'm kinda confused why you listed them being slow as a negative but Heavy Duty which is much slower for the same impact gets a pass?). The first hit has a slight startup, sure (other than the forward-dodge/leap attacks) but they combo into a second and third hit very quickly, and that first or second hit is guaranteed to stagger most non-boss enemies, so the slower followups don't matter since the enemy is chain-staggered by that point anyway. Their dps is really good as well (though not quite OP dps like Ungula Universalis/General's A.C.U. V2.0 of course), and the sliding sprint attack is very strong and safe as well, and launches enemies if possible like the body/legs charged vertical. I bounce back and forth between all weapon types since I like variety, but I always come back to Codename: Elise as the strongest weapon for general use
One of the best starters in heavy-duty is charged R2 while pressing forward. Giant leap that covers a lot of ground and then slams enemies so hard like entire sky was dropped on them in one second. Almost always knocks them down, and if you landed hit on their head they're almost dead. Overall I agree with weapon evaluation, probably single-rigged was my least favourite.
Basically, default laspistop drone is all you ever gonna need. All other drone attachments consume so much omnicells it makes them not worth it. K-47 rifle - low damage, consumes 3 cells for 1 burst. A.I.D. "Empire" sniper rifle - 4 cells a shot, damage is good, but again, you can do more damage with 4 shots from default pistol. Unique shotgun attachment is the worst offender, 7 cells at once is just huge, and the damage isn't that good, but it knocks enemies down. GAIA laser - again, trash. Probably it wasn't supposed to kill enemies alone, just help you to inflict burn on them, but it does so very inefficiently, and killing even unshielded skavenger takes almost half of your omnicells. Grenades, Molotovs, guided missiles, proxy mines - too expensive and limited. Deployable turret - never hits target that walks faster than a snail. Also for some reason has limited ammo, after spending it all it just does nothing. If you really want to use drone, equip omni-cell magazine, use armor to get 10 cells more, implant that deals more damage when drone is close to your target, and shoot your drone while you are in CC. It's a cheap trick, but it can melt enemies in seconds.
I've found Codename Engelhart my go to at the moment, it seems to have a very quick wind up to making the first attack and the impact of 29 is the highest

Thanks brother I'll drop the single Rig now lol awesome video love the channel!
Ty sir this was great and informative!
I just got this game a few hours ago. Have to say I'm liking the staff the most so far. Still in the first area
I wish there was more than 1 person covering these weapons.
This is one of the best games of 2019,ud think ppl would be all over it
"This is one of the best games of 2019" Its a fun game but its not even close to that . After a couple of hours it become very repetitive (the combat) , and when you get the emp drone its seems like you are cheating the fights ...
@@deadlyjoz8761 no, im almost dome and i love it still. Im the type of guy that did newgame +++ on bb and ds 1 and 3,i love this high reward high punish gameplay. Also i dont ever use the starfish
deadly joz think you’re the only person I’ve seen say the combat is repetitive lol and it’s easily one of the better games released this year
I like this. Twin-rigged and punching gloves are my favorite weapon classes
I started the game yesterday & having a blast. Loved this vid cause there are so much weapons now, that I dont know what to choose. Like your content straight to the point & your honest opinion. You got a subscribe👍 sir. Keep them coming.
I really miss the single rigged vertial dash attack from the first game. Was a great way to enter combat and deal a huge amount of damage quickly.
They still have it
Great video man, straight to the point, and very useful. 👍🏼
I'd love to use the heavy weapons but the wind-ups are so slow. The staff got me through the Surge 1 in the end. I was loving the speed & reach. Animations are looking nice in the sequel. Can't wait to get my hands on it now. Thanks for the tips
vital tips vid here if interested: ruclips.net/video/S5lqavVxsRU/видео.html
When you learn the timing, the heavy duty weapons are too OP
lol ngl when i heard the single rigged was the lowest i was like DA FUK xD lol for me its my fav weapon type
yo respect for ost from issac
There different kind of hammers n one handed too. Move sets are different.
I wanna say it’s like:
One handed: Daggers n Swords
Hammers: Axe n Hammer
Love the vid btw. Gr8 job!
The archangel great sword baby it rips All Apart
I was waiting for the boss that would drop the 2 handed weapon but it never showed. At least the op ness of the archangel weapon made up for it
The combat in this game is so sick
Just hope IGN won't steal your content this time. Keep up the good work!
Hey just came across your video very helpful and informative thanks alot
Whats the difference between dodge and dash attacks? How do I perform them?
"-with nothing that really stood out as OP to me"
*laughs in electric spear*
I personally love heavy duty, even in the first.
It's fun as hell, just has some bad matchups
Spear is my favorite. Brother Truman's Faith and Gaia's Spear are my go to weapons. Maxing them out.
awesome video , it helped me alot thanks
I thoroughly enjoyed this video, even though I don't have the game! Maybe I should do something about that...
I'm digging the punching gloves
One of the best starters in heavy-duty is charged R2 while pressing forward. Giant leap that covers a lot of ground and then slams enemies so hard like entire sky was dropped on them in one second. Almost always knocks them down, and if you landed hit on their head they're almost dead.
Overall I agree with weapon evaluation, probably single-rigged was my least favourite.
Well written, commented and put together video! Great job and thank you a lot! Especially for combos. 4.5/5 stars =)
Thank you!
The Staff is awesome! Was my favorite in The Surge 1 too.
Can you review the drones also please
Excellent video. New sub here
I've found Codename Engelhart my go to at the moment, it seems to have a very quick wind up to making the first attack and the impact of 29 is the highest
so how to make the jump counterattack action at ps4 console like you did in 12:23.does it involve some button changing?
Definitely maining spear, staff, & twin rigs. Staff & twin rigs are my fav weapons from previous one.
Also, no SnS weapon like the enemy at 11:12?
Nope
The first boss 2.0 weapon is a god in this game, just use the spin combo, it will poison and kill everyone very quickly.
Oh man. I hope I'm not going to agree with you about the single rigged once I get my hands on The Surge 2. It was my favorite weapon in The Surge 1.
Jim-8 yeah, he said arbitrary like 1000x. Everyone should totally decide themselves as play style has a lot to do with preference etc. So do not dismay ;)
@@zoe_gamer_girl Ah ok thx. My brain canceled out the word arbitrary because I didn't understand it. Had to Google it, so now I know a new word in English. Thx for that too.!
I'm guessing he would have ranked SR the same in Surge 1. It's not for everyone but wrecks shop if it clicks with you.
Love single rigged, can vary easily hit the part you want to and can stun most enemies more often than not
I personally started off twin rigged after the second strange vision, then got Little Johnny's boss weapon, used that until I got the general's weapon and been using that since. Twin rigged/punching gloves is op.
Not to mention the doge attack to the face is a great way to knock down the opponent or stagger them
just saw this today awesome vid :)
And I thought that spear and staff were the same weapons?? Great video!
