    I've just found you Mr. Geo...I'm 50 now, and have been shaving with Gillette Mach3 for the last 25 years or so. Sooooo much landfill...I'm kind of ashamed! Your videos will help me teach my young guy how to shave properly when the time comes. Perhaps you know how valuable your lessons really are to the common man, young and "older" (in my case older). I can't wait to receive my stuff from your shop that was ordered today. BTW...My family and I lived in Highland Park before we moved to Michigan. Wish I would have known of you then (5 years ago). We miss Chicago!!!!!
    Regards,
    Jason

    These are some pretty informative videos. I'm now have 12 shaves (and counting) with a straight razor. I also haven't nicked myself or had any serious razor burn since my second SR shave. The one odd thing with me though is that 'against the grain' on my jawline goes from ear to chin, not the way yours does. So, once I finished, I just used my Merkur 25C to go from ear to chin. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to go against the grain, ear to chin, on my jawline and not injure myself.

However when I am coming off of two to for four weeks of leave or even three days for that matter I take my time and set up for a good straight razor shave!!! Thank you for all of your hard work to show us the PROPER way to shave.

    I shaved with a straight razor for years and I finally stopped when the kids were little , I was afraid one would get a hold of it. I never cut with a sharp one, It was just when I slacked off and let them get dull. They would hang and slide to the side a little and then a OH CRAP!, Kids are gone now and getting my stuff together again. Nothing like the feel of a blade against your face and the feel of a good shave!

    That's a great video! But it's pronounced "Böker" and not "Boker". The two dots over the "o" are not there just for fun.
    The "ö"-sound shouldn't be a problem to a native English speaker. It just sounds exactly like the "u" in "urgent", the second "e" in "emergency" or the "i" in "James T. Kirk".
    It can lead to bizarre confusions with German speaking people, when not using the so called Umlaute.
    E.g.:
    Schlosser = locksmith
    Schlösser = palaces
    lastig = heavy
    lästig = annoying
    schwul = gay (homosexual)
    schwül = muggy
    Bar = bar/pub
    Bär = bear
    rosten = to rust
    rösten = to roast
    lugen = to peek
    lügen = to lie
    schon = already
    schön = beautiful/handsome
    etc.
    Best regards from Vienna, Austria!
    Ps.: If you don't have "ä"-, "ö"- or "ü"-keys on your keybord just substitute them with "ae", "oe" and "ue".

  • @drpavlovic1411

    I need to know two things:
    1. Why do we buy some standard straight razors and have trouble sharpening it and using the leather stripe to keep them sharp, when we can use some shavettes and skip all the sharpening processes?
    2. This razor doesn't use some wider shaving than some shavette. I can't see that you use the whole width of this razor to shave your face. You use only one part of it, the same width as if you use shavette.
    So, why would we bother to have some standard straight razor, when we can just use a half of a standard blade and be carefree, regarding sharpening some standard straight razor?

    • @patrickpettyjr.3134
      @patrickpettyjr.3134 2 года назад

      I, too, always thought that the shavette was more practical than the traditional straight razor. You get the same experience with it and it doesn't require religious stropping and honing every now and then. The idea of replaceable blades really has evolved shaving.

    Hi Geo….years ago I tried for the first time a straight razor shave and being completely unskilled in how to use one I cut myself pretty good just below my left ear and bleed like a stuck pig for a few minutes before it stopped and my wife said and I quote “Get rid of that damn thing!!!” and I haven’t done a straight razor shave since, of course this was before RUclips or any other media that we have today. To be perfectly honest I want to try my hand at it again but I’m somewhat scared because I don’t have the skills to do it much less the money to get a quality razor and the equipment to keep it in working condition. I have considered a shavette razor since their cheaper and you don’t have to horn or strop it to maintain an edge…..any suggestions?

      You can shave with it right out of the box as I demonstrate here, and then it should be stropped before every shave. When the strop no longer gets it sharp enough to shave with then you can refresh it on a Naniwa 12K Stone. Watch this video: shavenation.com/collections/naniwa-super-stones

      Yes, I have seen some Böker DE blades, not too popular and I'm not sure why.

      It's an Alum Block. They come in different sizes/shapes, he's using a travel deodorant style one that I believe he sells at Shave Nation.

    Hi Geo, at the end of your recent videos you drive away with your Harley. You're a man of safety. You should wear a helmet! I'm a bike fellow from Germany (BMW). I Think you want to protect your face for your videos, wich I like a lot. Regards Christoph

      Question for you, you obviously tried many more razors than me. I'm still on my first - a Merkur 33C - and its great, but can't help wonder if there's better. The 34HD (Merkur) always comes up in lists as being the best - have you ever compared the two and any tips or advice you can give? By the way, I do love your videos and tutorials - you got me pretty close to getting a dovo shavette :)

    Unless it killed him.
    Watching me shave, would likely cause him physical distress.

    Geo,
    I absolutely must say, you do a fabulous and wonderful job with your shaving videos. Not only are you always taking the time to explain each step of the shaving process, but you also explain why and what you are doing. You have helped me improve my shaving tremendously. I use a Merkur Futur Adjustable razor with a Feather Blade.
    I would like to try my hand at using a straight razor, but I have a question first. Can I use a straight razor with one hand? I have Cerebral Palsy on my left side and do not have the dexterity as my right side does. I can certainly try.
    What would you suggest? Thank you for your time!
    Best,
    Jerry Johnston

    Quando il rasoio taglia sul serio, con la barba così lunga, non serve il contro pelo... Quel Boker va affilato da un bravo arrotino...
