Thank you for sharing the dating insights! Indeed, there are a lot of cultural differences when it comes to dating in Japan. Can you do an episode on what is considered rude in Japanese culture, can be related to anything. For example, while eating, out with friends, etc. Thank you!😺
Thank you so much for the episode, I really enjoyed it! 😊 I was wondering if it might be possible to lower the music volume just a little so your voice comes through more clearly? Also, I think the podcast could be even better if the English subtitles were moved to the RUclips subtitles feature. That way, viewers could decide for themselves whether they want to use them. Personally, I find it a bit tricky not to read the English version. I would love to hear about the school system in Japan! 😊 Thank you again!
"even better if the English subtitles were moved to the RUclips subtitles feature" - I agree. I'm trying to listen to and understand the Japanese, but my eyes keep jumping to the English words.
I seeーーー… It’s a bit difficult for the next time, but I’ll think about how to add subtitles in the video after that! The Japanese school system is really interesting.

Excellent advice on dating a Japanese woman. I'll keep that in mind. My approach is taking things slow to get to know someone. Seeing if we have similar interests in food, hobbies, goals, etc. Thank you for making the time to create this video!

This type of relationship is 2 levels. The relationship, and the cultural differences. Many foreign men go to Japan with wrong idea . And possible too, many Japanese women also have wrong idea. So this kind of relationship has to click from the beginning, where each person just feels something and it's worth the effort to make it work. Good video on Japanese dating. 🙂
Another very good video Yurichan! This was very helpful and wise advice. I feel serious people should be respectful enough to create a good relationship slowly. I feel this has a better chance of standing the test of time if you know what I am saying. I might also suggest that there are at least a couple good subjects here for a couple video interviews of people on the street. It would be good to get a random sample for your audience on these matters of dating, confessions, cultural exchange, and thoughts on romance in general. Your little pink desk friend is very cute; nice touch. Thank you very much for another interesting podcast.
While there are many ways to meet people, and there are many reasons for people to be together, one thing that I think is important is to share a common interest or hobby. It's very helpful even if it isn't essential. So one way to meet people is to find some kind of group or meeting place where people with that interest come together. It can be online, but of course it's easier to meet people face to face if it's in person. Now suppose you find someone who is interesting at such a meeting; what next? 'ellifiknow 🙂 But, importantly, don't build up your feelings before finding out if that person is available and able to go out. And going back to what's mentioned in the video: do communicate (both your question and your intention). That's the most important.
I've noticed your opinion are not much any different from the other Japanese RUclipsrs. But still your take is very much welcome. Not that I have any chance at all on dating a Japanese woman.
As an American guy, the Japanese style of "confessing" to a woman feels so cringe. If you said many of those things to an American woman she'd get scared and run away instantly. I think probably only boys between 12 and 18 "confess" to a girl, or ask a girl to go out. It feels like, in America, it's assumed that adults will be good at indirectly communicating (probably a bad assumption).
While not necessarily my prefered topic, i bet it's a good one for generating some audience. That was a really enjoyable video and i really liked your style/way of talking. Towards the end i think the english subtitles were a bit ahead? Or maybe it just didn"t fit correctly.
kung marunong lang ako magsalita ng nihongo at may kadate na isang haponesa ay kakain kami ng street food katulad ng takuyaki at sasakay kami ng rickshaw..
English doesn't make sense lol. It's called "make a friend" so by the same analogy it should be make a girlfriend right? What's funnier is that "get" might sound more serious but it's actually less. To make someone your friend, that sounds like an ongoing process that doesn't magically happen. To get a girlfriend sounds like you're just searching for the fastest way to obtain one.
When I have dated, I’m always very conscious about being respectful. I feel things deeply and I am very careful with peoples feelings as well as protecting my own.
I would be sure to text you daily, Yuriko! I don't think it will be very realistic for me to get a Japanese girlfriend in Japan considering where I live and where I am at in life right now. I do, however, enjoy the content. This is great information to know. Your production and voice are great which is much appreciated. I find that in USA, women definitely do not like if you confess right away! Some do actually like it and find it refreshing (because they are not used to it). They tend to like the mystic, the question, am I dating or where it's going. I do not like this. I think directly communicating how you feel makes sense. I see more romanticism in actually confessing feelings rather than the fear of the unknown. I feel that this is a foundational reason why so many Westerners are generally unhappy in many different relationships, short or long-term. There are many sensibilities that I like about what you shared here.
1. Do the 3 dates need to be back-to-back (consecutively) before confessing? Or can it be spread out? For example, 1st date is Monday. 2nd date is Wednesday. 3rd date is Saturday. Or is that not recommended? 2. I agree that communicating with that potential love interest in Japan is important. However, I fear that daily constant communication may come off as clingy or desperate that may rub off Japanese girls the wrong way, and they may end up not responding back. I’m of the same opinion that communication with them every 2 or 3 days is good like you suggested. 3. Finding someone through SNS, eh… to be honest, it’s hard. I can’t remember who said this. I think it was you. I’ll have to find the video. Anyway, when it comes to finding love interest through social media or dating apps, we’re evaluating someone’s worth via pictures, swiping left or right, and not getting to know them in person. So, sometimes online dating apps and SNS aren’t for everyone and we’re not being fair on judging someone through pictures only. Well, I can’t speak for everyone, but it’s definitely not for me. I’d very much do the meeting in person. It’s gonna be a few years until I return to Japan for my 2nd trip, so I guess I don’t have a choice but to consider doing online apps if I don’t feel like waiting. 4. After the 3rd date, a confession is definitely something that is expected. By Japanese society standards or tradition, girls want guys to make the first move. I’d imagine that if the guy, whether he’s Japanese or foreigner, doesn’t confess then the Japanese girl won’t know where they stand, and the guy (most likely a foreigner) will probably assume that they are a couple. And that will lead to a lot of confusion on both sides. Or so I heard. 5. Thank you so much for your input. I took a lot of detailed notes on what to do and what not to do. I want to find love in Japan and I don’t want to be that dumb American 🇺🇸 that makes a mistake.😅😅 Most of all, thank you so much for using my topic suggestion and making it a video. I am truly happy. ❤ What was your experience with dating? If you don’t mind me asking. What did you like/don’t like? What’s the key to a long lasting relationship for marriage? I do have another topic suggestion. What is “chatting up”? How do we avoid that if we want to find love in person instead of dating apps and SNS? What are the big NO NO’s? Sorry for the long paragraph. 😅😅
I am in a successful 6-months relationship with a Japanese woman. If the girl has lived abroad or has experience dating foreigners usually “Japanese dating rules” don’t apply. For example, there’s no kokuhaku, you can be more relaxed with physical contact (even sleeping together on the first date), and they will be more open about their feelings (no tatemae).
Speak Japanese. I'm not joking, haha. I'm serious. Being able to speak Japanese is the best, especially when you need to convey your feelings and intentions-unless she speaks English. I didn't understand the three dates well. I went out with my girlfriend five or six times, I think, before I asked her. I did the kokuhaku, which is interesting. She made me get on my knees. I met her mom, and we went to dinner. Because I can speak, we could do a lot of things and of course, she would be more relaxed. My case is different, I speak with her every day, which is interesting. Our relationship is different from what I'm used to but I love her, so I will do my best. She's two years older than me, I'm 23 and she's 25, but I don't think there is any problem with it. Thank you Yuri-san, be careful and I wish a great week for you.
