I worked down a bull hide once to make rawhide for a whip. The hide was over an inch thick in places. I found a machete that was made of good spring steel. It was made in England. The prep work took a day before the chemical baths to remove hair. When doing this work outside, your neighbors tend to sit and watch!
Hi Amy! I’m wanting to get into taxidermy, and I love your art so I was wondering if you could make a video of beginner tools, companies(to buy tools, forms, etc on) and tips for rookies? Thanks Amy, continue the awesome work! ❤❤🎉
I have 7 sharp knifes i use to do that job. I cut the end off a wood base bat then sand down to a point so it can go inside my head mounting stand. I lay the hide on the bat and put my belly on the hide and then shave away from me. It works great! I use 7 sharp Russel knifes and when i dull the last one i stop and resharpen them . I like the way you Roll!😁
I just read your bio, on your website. Not that I really needed to as I've watched many tanning videos of folks that (don't really know what's up), but watched yours, and saw, you do know, what's up. It's clear you're an expert. I also saw you may want to open up a school.
Hi Amy, I just watched your collaboration with The Cedar Ridge Chronicles. I really enjoyed that. I'm new to the business of taxidermy and I also have a RUclips channel, so it was nice to see you guys break things down and talk about a lot of different things. For my first year, I got about 13 deer, a bear, 2 fish, an elk hide to tan, 3 Euro's and an antler plaque. Does that sound about right for someone's first year?
You are the most detailed and informative Taxidermist on RUclips. Thank you for taking the time and making these videos.
I look forward to seeing your videos each time you post. Very talented, hard working professional 💪

To help out your left palm you can cut a slot big enough to fit over the back of the knife in a piece of wood or large 1 1/2" piece of dowel.
Your videos are fantastic. stickers for the fridge are in the mail,

If you ever create online workshops teaching how to do animals from start to finish, please sign me up! I would love to learn from you even more.
A lot of work! Great job Amy! Thank you for sharing!!
Amazing protection for the animal but labor for you.😁 Good video Amy. 👍🏻😎🇺🇸
May sound weird but I like splitting fleshing and thinning the capes than I do mounting lol
Those dark blue area on the second hide, will the fur fall off afterwards when its tanned?
Anyone who thinks that you can remove that stuff with a pressure washer has never tried it 😂
They usually say they know because they fleshed a bear or a big beaver. That’s not what we are talking about 😂
