One of the best bands of the period - saw them at the Islington T&C2 Syngery show in 1989 with ( I think, from memory…) Jesus Jones😎🤩

I wasn't into electronic music before I heard this Peel Session. I'm old enough to remember the original airing. Cassette tape was always ready to go listening back then 😉

Just started to see bands live in the mid 80s and saw The Shamen 1989 at the Zap Club in Brighton. It was great. Punks and hippies.

"and they can't find it? Then we'll find it! We all know damn well they won't. They haven't been able to for 50.000 years looking at it that way. It requires an alteration, a change." OK, I've posted this here as I'm looking for the source of that original sample. I suspect it's from an old Ken Kesey video but I can't be sure. A German record seller has the quote on their site for an album Psychedelic Unknowns Vol 7 but having spoken with someone who owns it, they say that they don't recall having heard the clip on it. I'm handing the enquiry over to Shamen fans...

Interesting to hear an early version of splash2; think the later stripped down version is better.

Like a lot of Shamen tracks around 1988-89, Splash 2 here is "What's Going Down" which was one of the b-sides to their 1988 12", Knature of a Girl. It's been reworked with a house / techno backing track. For Phorward, I think they just stripped it back to the new backing track and jettisoned the song. I agree it's better as Splash 2!

Alto Saxophonist Erik Karl The John Peel Show. A legendary late night music show on BBC Radio 1. Lots of well known bands of the 70s,80s and 90s did "Peel Sessions" which were recorded live in-studio and are often sought after by fans.

John Peel was almost a god to us in the '70s and '80s, he played music no one else on the radio would. It was said he'd rather play a recording of two Hungarian nuns farting in a 'phone box than play the charts.
