  • These are the top 10 rare philodendron from my collection. This ranking is based solely on my overall experience with each plant. Meaning, I take the care, growth habits etc. into consideration when making this ranking.
    As I said in this video, I understand that some of these philodendron may not be rare in your location or at the time you watch this video and popularity and availability of houseplants is constantly changing.
    I'd really love to know what the top philodendron in your collection are and why. It's not a surprise that I'm still actively trying to grow my plant collection, so help a brother out!

    I think your pastazanun might be a Dean McDowell! Which is amazing because yours looks so fab! The cataphyl on yours looks red and if the plant is lined with red/orange tint on the sides of the leave or pinking in the back it would be a dean mcdowell 😍 lucky you! Thanks for sharing these beauties

    I’m in Australia and I have every single philodendron you mentioned. Here what’s rare would be philodendron buono Jose and strawberry shake

      Avid collector! Wow 🤩
      It’s interesting what’s considered rare across the world. 🤓

      @@TristanPiers yeah. In Australia, all those plants that you mentioned are quite easy to find. Even today I got myself ring of fire and tiger tooth. I wish they sold buono Jose or strawberry shake in one of the stores

    I don't know if philodendron maximum counts as rare but it was really hard for me to find. I finally found one for $100 and it was a 4" tall little baby. Every leaf has been exponentially larger than the last.

      I have yet to see one in person! But yes I hear they size up amazingly!

      Hahaha I haven't seen/touched a mature one in person but from what I saw online they have a really nice texture when they mature.

    I think u got the wrong base plant mixed up.
    Glorious and Majestic are crossed with P.melanochrysum

      I think Glorious is Melano and Majestic is Verru. I think 🤔

      Splendid = Verrucosum x Melanochrysum
      Glorious = Gloriosum x Melanochrysum
      Majestic = Sodiroi x Melanochrysum

      Google and I agree with all minus the Majestic. Unless there are hybrids of Sodiroi x Melanochrysum & Sodiroi x Verrucosum, which I’m sure exist. My Majestics have red blushing in the back, which is a trait from the Verrucosum side of the parentage.

    I think the northwest and the northeast are both screwed for some plants. Pretty much every plant you said is rare where you live, are also rare here in NY where I live lol

      I envy everyone in Florida that casually has rare plants growing in their backyard like a weed.

      I’ve never been somewhere with REAL humidity, so I’d probably die 😂
