  • @WEnglish4

    I submit to you...the majority of this video is the bass player's doing. There's ALWAYS a moment in a Cory Henry video where the "winds shift." Someone does something that pokes the bear (or, he pokes himself) and everyone dies shortly thereafter.
    Sir Henry is being "respectful" (by his standards), and hits a percussive lick around 1:22 and the bass player responded with a nice, thick lick in return. Sir Henry felt it, looked at him to acknowledge that he felt it...and then he hulked out...and that was it. Next lick made half the church rush the organ. LOL

    4 whatever reason this video made me reminisce back to the 80's. Back to the streets of Jamaica Queens where brothers used to gather around in a circle to hear bars. Usually, their heads down to capture the full scope of the lines being spoken. Thats what i see here. Inspirational.

    • @bourgeoisbrats
      @bourgeoisbrats 9 лет назад +29

      The re-harmonization skills are what distinguish him from his peers. It sounds and feels at least 20% improv, meaning he wouldn't be able to repeat it exactly, but he's fully aware of the direction he's going and how to arrive where he wants to be. Some ear-training professors call this type of improv "associative exploration", because you mainly solo in an exploratory fashion. What you hear dictates what you play next :-)

      @@bourgeoisbrats I think his strength is on the other side. Because he is so consistent he can play those runs and progressions again and again. There are patterns in it. His real strength is in his speed. He plays really fast compared to others, and so he can take classic tunes and bass-lines from great musicians and dissect them and rearrange them really well(I won't say he is unlimited, but he is damn good). He simply does everything so well.

    I love the face of the dude that comes in at the back at 2:26, like a kid that comes in a candy shop and the owner says "help yourself to whatever you want, it's all FREE!"

I jus watch ed it again and I was wondering if someone changed the licks he was playing....they just get better and better honestly.. 2:56 - 3:00, the drummer helps us to understand what's going on...absolutely amazing! To say he's just good, is an insult, and reveals that you have in your possession, a platinum haters credit card, without an unlimited line of credit....
