I have just taken delivery of the 2TD-X non-tower version of this speaker. This is the perfect video for me. I now feel confident in proceeding with the veneer on my cabs. Thank you so much!!
I have watched many speaker DIY assembly videos and this in my opinion was by far the best in terms of detail. The finish and attention to detail is first class I hope they sound as good as they look. Fantastic job.
You are very easy to listen too, and you make it feel like a first time project but we can see that is not the case. Expensive kits are not for first timer's as i cannot pull it apart and start again. 😊
this is awesome, crazy how an audio hobby gets you also into wood working. Also burmese teak! I'm burmese but didn't realise this was a available to buy
Nice veneering job. I'm planning to build a pair of the 2TDX's soon and have been debating whether to paint or veneer them. After watching your video I think I'll try the veneer. : ) Thanks for the video!
Just gorgeous, Steve! Absolutely great job on these and thanks for the video. CSS is high on my list right now. It would be really neat if you built the GR Research XLS Encore now with upgraded crossover and compared!
@@Tharbamar I would look at madisound kits not the rg research, there's a remarkable speaker kit active crossover, plate amplifiers, they do a 2-way slotted port the SP acoustics micro-c 2-way speaker kit $645 a pair remarkable for what you get definitely you should give them a go!

I ordered my 2TDX's with the superior crossover components a week ago. I didn't order the flat pack for them. Just to make the project more challenging I decided to build the cabinets from 1 inch thick White Oak instead of MDF or plywood. : ) I will have to tweak the dimensions a little to account for the thicker material. Wish me luck! : ) My Elekit TU-8600S 300B tube amp kit is supposed to arrive today but it hasn't shown up yet. : (
@@Tharbamar I have built electronics kits for over 50 years but building this amp is a little intimidating. I don't want it to go up in smoke the first time I power it up so I will be taking my time with it. I would send you pics of my progress if I had a way to contact you.. 😐
A+++ work Tharbamar! With regard to both the clear and concise video itself and with the actual speaker build. You're rock-n- roll man, simply rock-n-roll! If you don't mind, there is something I've been wanting to ask to see if you may be able to make a quick video of it. You have made a video of a power cable build, which was great. I've also been wondering, however, if you may have the time to make a quick video regarding the potential sound quality differences amongst different cables and connectors we can choose from when doing a DIY power cable project? The main reason I ask is due to being able to hear such a big difference between your Mogami DIY power cord and your PS Audio power cord. From what I remember, your Mogami power cord was warmer (just as my Mogami RCA cables being slightly warmer than my own RCA ribbon cable design (wires from a very top-tier jewelry supply retailer). Anyway, just something I think may be able to benefit us all. I'd do the work myself, but I have ZERO experience with building a power cable. Thanks for all your work!
I've been watching all you videos up to date, hoping I can do the same one day. Your work flow and detailed explanation of process, are truly inspiring. So the big question is: How do they sound comparing to TD1X? Are they "keepers"?
Hi Tharbamar. I found crossover component list but couldt find more details about them. Could you please add info if you know? I know only Jantzen brand superior 800Volt capacitors. But do not know others. Regards. 6x 12 uF capacitors 2x 1.5 mH inductors 2x 0.30 mH inductors 2x 8.0 Ohm resistors 2x 2.0 Ohm resistors 2x 1.0 Ohm resistors 2x 3.0 Ohm resistors
Now that you know how much effort went in it, or maybe more if you cut then panels yourself, you are in good position to let us know its value compared to other built speakers. Also if you have experience with and can give comparisions with Gr-research kits as they are quite affordable, how much burn-in did you have before the review, 200hrs atleast?
So sou aren’t applying any pressure after it’s done? I am about to start re-veneering my JBLs and since i am doing it at home (no garage, no workshop place) and hardly any tools, someine adviced me to use the iron. The veneer i am using is same as yours, paper-backed.
Hi, happy to see this kit. I built the Criton 1tdx with upgraded part and WOW! My question is as you know these speakers what DAC would recommend to ge with them? Continue your reviews, they are always welcome!
Don't think that foam is much good I would worry about the knobbly bits not gonna do nothing needs to be double the thickness, but I would use natural wool fleece instead folded it over 4 times if it's half an inch thick. Best using the sharp chisel for cutting the veneer but if you using the router you can get break out so wrap a bit of tape around the ball bearing once or twice to give you a bit more overhang of veneer. And definitely use a bit of blue tack as a gasket isolation, round the drivers 6mm bead for the woofers and 4-mm for the tweeter will help a lot. What I would actually do is cut a ring of wood plywood for the opening of the woofer same diameter as a drivers, would be required there to bring the tweeter in line with the woofers, a smaller resistor be required as well afterwards better driver alignment synergy. Midisound sell some good components like binding post. Why don't you just put the Binding post straight into the wood no plate needed Looks nice you done a good job
Congrats! They look made on a factory, but with better parts. PS It's sad that screws for the tweeters were too soft and must be painted back in black.
When you do your review are you going to cover the reason you decided on the tower and not either of the bookshelf versions. I'm about to buy one if these. Thank you so much for showing the veneering video. Are there choices to consider concerning the quality of the router bits?

When you buy the flat-pack MDF cabinet from CSS, the speaker and rear port holes are pre-drilled. Flat-pack means the holes are pre-drilled, but each piece must be glued and screwed (not shown in this video).
Could you supply a link to your veneer supplier? I have had no success finding anyone with an appropriate product. Also, a veneer roller is cheap and does a very good job.
Rockwool in a reflex cabinet is a joke. Or are you sitting with a mask in front of the speaker? Need no tape for reflextunnens. Silicone and screws!!😅😅😅
