to beginner producers: SAVE YOUR MONEY. Learn all of the built in tools your daw provides. You don't need $5000 worth of gear to make good music. Chances are, they're going to sit in your room and collect dust. I thought buying a drum machine for $1000 would be a game changer for me, but here I am, two years later, selling it for $800 on Facebook Marketplace. All of my shit is done in Ableton, and Ableton only.

On the other hand, gear really was a game changer for me. I floundered for years until some good hardware allowed everything to click into place

Love your take on this and it’s 100% true. Learn your DAW or the equipment you have right now and do a deep dive with it. Really learn your tools inside out instead of buying more

Absolut true, we can see it with your moog skills, that comes not from buying more moog. Just from working with one tool! 🤍

Nice video. I would love to see a video on how you use an audio analysis plugin with your room and techno production. I see some say bass should be around 6db, mids around 8 and hi frequency around 12. I don't even see these on my Span analyzer. I think showing a video of before and after using eq and a master analyzer like Span, it would be very helpful. Thanks for your lovely helpful videos.😮

Wise words man, thank you. Less stuff to get lost in, less stuff needing your precious time for research, troubleshooting and learning and more time for finishing tracks. It's also so easy these days to have lots of things which you only know a small part of, so you don't get the satisfaction or to put your character into your music from really exploring things and pushing against the limitations.
Voxengo Span is wonderful also for displaying Mid/side split and getting a clear idea of your stereo image across the frequency spectrum. Super useful.

And especially with all the packages that come with bitwig, you got thousands of samples and sound presets.

Just what i needed bro...i got myself the Ableton Live suite and started creating music 3 months ago. I've been bombarded on YT with videos on how modular/analog/hybrid synths are a 'must have' (implicit suggestions) and i started to thinking that i dont have the equipment needed to produce quality music. After watching your vid, and I couldn't agree more, that as creators we must first learn to master the basic DAW prior to jumping to frills like external synths ❤ Great content mate..keep it up 👍

keep doing what you do bro, since I started following you my game made a huge rise. when I started I really thought I needed all these fancy plug ins because most advanced masterclasses tell you to work with them, making it just harder for us to learn the basics and grow from there. thanks alot thanks for sharing all this and showing the complete opposite !

I disagree. I think it's not essential to "get rid of all your gear" and produce in the box like Mordio. That works for him, but it may not work for you. Instead, I recommend that you keep a journal and try different things. Work in Ableton, spend some time in Logic and try Bitwig (Luke Slater uses all three!)
Play with Pocket Operators, try semi-modulars, get a Pulsar-23, or Digitak if you like. But reflect on your sessions. How did it feel? Did you enjoy today's workflow? Did you feel more engaged? Did you have fun? Did you feel more inspired, productive, or creative?
Part of "finding your voice" as an artist is experimenting with different materials and mediums, learning about yourself, and figuring out what works for you.
"Ableton is all you need." But perhaps you'll be more productive and enjoy working with other equipment. Find your own path!

Great video! I love how you expressed your opinion, no bullshit straight to the truth, and to be honest, getting stuck feels like gear or a plugin might fix the issue, but that’s not it!
Totally agree on Windows being shit too… Only thing keeping me from going full Linux is no Live on it, and VST lacks support too.
I didn’t try but you could use Wine to set it up? I will be glad to help you, but of course I will have to try it on my own first. If I do it, I’ll be glad to share the info on discord!
Btw a video suggestion, can you do some more experimental stuff like figuring out different types of sounds while doing experimental sound design with stock plugins, I noticed on myself I lose a lot of drive to make a track because I focus on making an interesting sound and then just getting bored because I take too long, and can’t seem to finish tracks for quite some time now

(for some) imagine this: you have all the money to acquire what you think you need to make your next move. So you get it. Then what? You spend time learning what you should already be learning but applying it to a new device. Aside from having so many options and capabilities with acquire gear, you lose time to paralysis from having everything at your finger tips. Take comfort and joy in knowing working with what you have in front of you. It will massively aid in your development rather than stressing over acquisition of gear. Be patient, you might not even remember when you thought at one point that you needed something to chase imaginary composition.
