The winners should stand the test of time. 3 years later, I still keep coming back and watching all the outstanding dances by these two. In my book, Danny and Oti were the real winner of SCD 2016.
Totally agree. I doubt anyone goes back to watch any of Ore's dances, even his jive and I would've struggled to remember who actually won it in 2016 if it weren't for that show about the pros they had this year.

Ore had a great showdance which I think won it for him, plus Danny was bottom 2 in the semi-final and flubbed one of his final dances. Ringer-backlash probably did him in
I don't know why the voters of talent shows often overlook the acts/singers/dancers that are GENUINELY EXCELLENT. They prefer the mediocre and it pisses me off.
@@GracefulDanny that’s a matter of opinion, but Gene Kelly’s wife exerted some influence. It was ridiculous, as if Ore was a patch on Gene Kelly. Danny fluffed his quickstep because when they first danced it, Len had moaned that they’d faffed about too much at the beginning, so they changed it and he clearly danced the original. I don’t think they’d have won if it had been perfect, it was set up for an Ore win.
Watching this on 2024 for the first time. Oti's legs are the 8th Wonder of the World!

Precisely, I haven’t watched it the last couple of years , but this was the most disappointing result ever, he was and is the best male dancer to be in that programme and it still rankles that he didn’t win it
Still the best first dance EVER on Strictly. You could see how both were so enjoying it which really adds to audience appreciation.

One of the best male celeb cha-cha in the entire SCD 14 series I would say. Danny is phenomenal. And his techniques and attention to detail is clearly evident after a second go at watching this clip... Edit to add: he needs to work on his left hand, when it's not 'in use', he tends to just 'cup' it like he's begging pennies for a cup of tea!
I have to say on any scd-based series
Very impressive, but I think that he may have a couple of problems - first, that he's already such an accomplished dancer and performer going in, he may have nowhere to go; and second, whether Oti's personality can make up for his lack of same. I definitely think he's in there for the long haul. Winner? Not sure.
remember Jay wasn't someone with an effusive personality, he still won in the end...
Scd Observer No, J didn't have an effusive personality but he did actually have a sweetness and keen sense of humour (shown on ITT), although he could sometimes insert his foot squarely in his mouth! He would just choke on the main show with combination of adrenaline and shyness. Also incredibly modest. Danny, so far, seems to be more in the line of Jason Donovan personality wise. But I'm not going to write him off completely this early in the competition - he may turn out to be much more interesting than it at first appears.
Danny Mac remains the best contestant on Strictly. He is a phenomenal dancer, could have been a pro.

I'm so SO glad Oti got Danny this year, she got a partner with whom she can really showcase her talent as a choreographer and a dancer. This for me (as a dancer) was choreography perfection. Much respect to Oti.

She's beautiful. She reminds me of our Whitney Carson on DWTS (not her looks of course but her quality of movement). Hard to believe he's new to the dance floor, he seems so at home.

I want Strictly to steal Whitney Carson and Valentin Chmerkovskiy from DWTS - Oti is one of my fave pros and I'm totally stanning Danny, but he does have dance training as he attended Arts Educational Schools. He's less ringery than Louise Redknapp though as she attended Italia Conti which specialises in Dance Training..

Come on judges, this was the BEST dance of the night. Some real good dancers already this year and it's only WEEK 1.
Yeah, Len said the dance just before was the best dance of the week so kinda shot himself in the foot when it came to judging the next dance.
He did explain why it was not more highly marked - too much 'non cha-cha' content. He's very much a purist like that. Like when he roasted Giovani and Georgia for their Rumba last year - and gave them a bigger score in the final as Gio had put in more 'classic Rumba' steps.

There was plenty of content as well, though - New Yorks and cha cha walks galore. At least they filled the rest of the routine with dancing, rather than spending time dilly dallying with props as so many other couples do. When you consider that Len gave Danny the same score as Laura and only one more than Ed, it really is ridiculous.

I remember watching week 1 show on my sofa after a long day, half falling off to sleep....then Danny came on and started dancing....can nb sitting bolt upright and thinking ...this is somebody special....something i have never seen on the show before

im watching this and im like "oh my goodness. Outstanding as always!" Then I look down at the title. WEEK 1!!!!!!! What the hell! He is AMAZING!!!!!!!!

They didn't want to give four tens so early in the series and perhaps they didn't want to signal an outright favourite either. It's so clear he's the most gifted amateur there. I know people overuse the phrase, but when I watch these two dance I do sometimes think "Which one is the pro?" They are great and he matches her for quality. Shame the music for their paso doble was a bit uninspired. Music can really sell a performance. He was technically great but the performance lacked oomph for me, due to the forgettable music track. I hope Oti picks a crowd pleaser next time, (if she has that kind of input.)

Just started watching the new seasons of strictly and DWTS, and I really just still can’t comprehend the skill level of this performance 😂like, WHAT?! The complexity and speed alone would be hard for any week, even finals. This was a first performance 😭 it shows how important choreography is. Nothing compares. I’m spoiled for any regular cha cha.
Definitely the best Week One cha cha in years, possibly ever. He could work on his hands, but an extremely impressive effort. 8.5/10
Bestest dance of the evening by far. Danny is the one to watch because his hip movement is insane!!!!!! And this is just the beginning

Jambert same she is my favourite strictly professional and I was sad to see her get out so early last year but I think she can go very far with her partner this year

Loved this so much, they genuinely had so much fire and 'cleanliness' to their moves, they make a perfect pairing on the dance floor and they were robbed of a top score in comparison to aljaz and daisy in my honest opinion.

Judge Rinder is a tough call, he can dance but I couldn't take him seriously as a contender - although I do love him - then that Paso happened and then produced a stand out Quickstep. It gives me hope that he'll go far in the competition..

Though I'm not entirely sure about them giving out 9s in week 1, I was really surprised this didn't get one he was amazing and it was the dance of the night for me
Len was ridiculous with that 7. Should have been at least 8s across the board.
Concur. Nine may be too much if the judges think it's only week one (but Len gave Daisy 9?!), so I would expect Len to at least give an eight for that routine. His lock step was en pointe. Too bad the camera was swirling around them and thus the excellent footwork was only caught with a mini-second glimpse. If they capture the actual basic cha-cha walk it would have been wonderful.

I predict he will win. Very easy to watch and that isn't because he is good looking it is purely because you feel comfortable watching him. He exudes confidence which make you just relax and enjoy :)

Dance of the weekend for me. I can't believe this is Week 1 and we had about 7 dances that were at this level.
This could be the most competitive season in Strictly history. As long as there are no stupid early eliminations, we could have a great battle between Danny, Louise, Will, Ore, Claudia, Daisy, Robert and Tameka.
Don't rule out Greg and Naga just yet...
If Naga can let her guard down a bit and work more and more on refinement... Her ballroom could be brilliant.
Scd Observer Laura could also come into contention. In series 10, Dani and Vincent got 25 in their first dance, just as Laura did on Friday. Dani made the final that year.
Mark Saunders Oh yes, Laura is quite charming too. You know what, I suddenly remember who she reminds me. Kate Hudson!

Completely understand the judges' dilemma, because they have a show to deliver until Christmas.
So many lovely personalities on the show.... but for sheer delivery of brief required, Danny has done that and more.

Definitely my favourite celebrity in the competition this year. He reminds me of Jay in the way he has the technique almost nailed. I think this was the best dance of the night last week and deserved a higher score than Daisy. Glad that his Waltz was scored better. I can't wait to see more.

This is the best dance I've ever seen in a first week. I couldn't tell the difference between the pro & the contestant. Very well done, if he maintains this he so should be in the final.

OMG I like this couple, I've never watched DWT outside of the US, but this is awesome don't know who is the star and who is the professional that means the professional is that good since we can't tell the difference for us who don't know them...Am watching all their dances now 😊 thanks for sharing.
By far the best dance of the night. Can't believe he didn't end up with the highest score. So unfair! He looks like a real natural -- and looks quite good looking like a real natural, heehee. Yeah, quite loved this routine. I daresay we'll see the judges manipulating the scores again this year. They seem to have started already because Ms. Lowe's routine didn't cause me to sit up and take notice. Danny had me standing up and cheering. Can't wait to see his jive!!!

A lot of people are talking about Oti here! People _expect_ the pros to be good. When an amateur matches, or almost matches, the pro for quality then people always go overboard praising the amateur. Oti has many fans.

Me too. Oti and Danny have a great partnership. They respect each other and clearly get on well together. Well done to Oti on such great choreography and well done Danny for working hard on getting the moves and timing right. I am hooked on watching their dances much more than the others, though the standard is great all round.

This was great. He is a natural dancer and looked awesome. Oti did very well with the choreography as opposed to others that chose to cement their partners in place. Good teacher, and cant wait to see more of the celeb (whoever he is lol)
