【♥ PERSONAL NOTES ⇣ 】
SynK and I went to go see Moana opening weekend, and this was my favorite song by far! Always love a good villain song, and the David Bowie inspiration is amazing ... Honestly, I love most of the songs in the movie, but this one was a lot of fun to cover.
I've gotten a few requests to sing something from the movie, but it wasn't until I could confirm that Disney wasn't giving out copyright strikes for covers using the official instrumental that I decided to do one. Thank you to those on Twitter who helped with this!

I'm so torn between Jayn's version and the one done by Elsie Lovelock. Elsie seems to pack more energy and personality in her performance, while Jayn adds more elegance and a feminine touch to it. This never happened to me before, I honestly can't decide which I like more.

Hey Jayn, i just got an idea once i heard your voice on this song. what if; Moana got Genderswapped, and instead of Moana looking for Maui, it's the other way around. and if Tamatoa was a woman, i'd imagine this version of the song would sound perfect for it! xD
i like this idea for a genderbent/roleswap AU and while we're at it the dad is the supportive one (like how it orginally was) and the grandma and mom are the non supportive ones and pua is the one who stowsaway on the boat and not heihei (after maoi shows up anyways)

This has become my second favorite sans the original. I'm going to go look at your other songs. Usually when I listen to songs their's an element that's missing from it that makes it seem lacking to me. You got that. You took an amazing song, made it your own and now I love it!

Every time I hear this cover I always picture myself doing an animatic (though I never have) of a giant belly-dancing cobra, with broken fangs but a makeshift club to compensate.
With Moana and Maui replaced with stick people cause I can't think of suitable replacements.

Y'know, someone should make a universe with like, a bunch of different gods or embodiments of things, and have the nature one sing this. Like, I don't get why people characterize nature as wise or fun. There's so much color and beauty in nature, (shiny) but normally color means poison in animals (evil). And for Maui they could make like a dark, space combo. Like night, or something. The "I have to give you credit for my start" could be a homage to the fact that 1: space existed long before earth, and therefore nature, and 2: the night and space and stuff is also really pretty, with stars and galaxies and such. The whole backstory thing could be about the humans rejecting them because the dark is scary. Also, the little Maoi's having trouble with his look" could be addressing possible shape shifting powers. The main reason why people are afraid of the dark is because they don't know what's there so anything could be there, so I thought to incorporate that so the darkness can be anything. I might think of a better idea later, but the best I have for "you little semi-demi-mingod" would be something to do with getting rejected by humans, and therefore his god-ness less is prominent. I still haven't thought of a couple of things, for example I dont know how I'm gonna incorporate a hook, but if i figure anything out then i'll edit
Easily my favorite of the female covers of this song! I feel like many female singers either struggle with the half spoken nature of the lyrics, which messes with the notes they assign to the syllables a little (and the result sounds weirdly off to my ears) or they lean into the singing harder and go all playful on it in a way that feels too "frilly" for me, like vocalizing at the end of words.
Both are completely valid choices to make a song their own! But I personally really like the way you did it, keeping the vocals somewhat simple and sleek, but going really hard on the spoken parts like the "ouch!". I feel like you're the only one I've heard so far who just stuck to a lower to medium register throughout and that really appeals to me. Maybe I'm boring but it's simply a song I never liked for its variety - the rhythm and sway of the syllables has always been the bigger appeal to me. It reminds me of a heavy pendulum slowly swinging closer and closer, and you translated that particular quality so well here!
