Ronia; The West consistently has accused Iran for lack of pragmatic leadership. From what the world has witnessed so far unlike this claim, most Western leadership have exhibited lack of pragmatism. Please have a program to discuss this point in some detail.
THE PROF's WEAK POINT was that he declined being one of Iran's negotiators in the JCPOA. With his excellent command of English it's likely that he would have discerned the ambiguous points of the signed agreement that was later exploited by loopholes. But saying that there would still be the POWERFUL Israeli lobby to overcome.
The US intended to use the JCPOA as a trap for Iran even before the negotiations started. The US unilaterally reneged despite the other signatories confirming that Iran was in full compliance.
There's little point, besides just demonstrating willingness to negotiate to the rest of the world. You can't negotiate with the U.S. The Russians said it best: they're not agreement-capable. The rest of the world will just have to get together and confront the bully. Russia's already on it, just help them.
This morality police abuse people verbally, physically, and even sexually! I was almost arrested for walking with my sister on the street when I was 16 years old!!! These are moments you will never forget! The amount of anger it generates in you is indescribable. He is here to sugarcoat their actions. They don't have any right to abuse people on the streets for no reason.
Try being a black person in America. At this point you can be white, they're mostly monsters. That's an unfortunate experience, but it's not unique to Iran. the USA will turn Iran into Haiti.
Absolute mockery of an interview by Rania. Why not ask Mr. Professor why is that the reporter who took picture of Mahsa Amini has been imprisoned for the crime of reporting that a woman had died in custody of police? Why is it that the regime feel so insecure that they detain and keep singers in prison for the crime of highlighting the plight of Iranian society in their songs? Why does regime TV stations do forced confessions on TV which are later retracted by family members of dead protesters in their funerals? Why not challenge Mr Professor on any of these questions and instead ask these lame softball questions? Does Rania know that Marandi's father is in the inner circle of Iran's supreme leader as a paid advisor? Why is that important fact not disclosed to your audience? Where is your journalistic integrity. So many softball questions.
Man, this show has nothing of integrity. It is just a bunch of supposed anti-US imperialists leftists (the only thing they really are is anti-US) and therefore they are willing to support whatever it seems to be anti-US. It does not matter how bad things are in a certain place - if it is anti-US they are with them. US policies deserve a lot of criticism, but making the bulk of one's ideology an a priori and always anti-US attitude (supposedly because you think of yourself as from the left and US must be the only and real imperialism in the world) degenerates in a distorted world hypocritical moral stand. This program is far from being impartial or to aim at reaching the truth.
Most of the questions you are raising bear no value for this discussion. The reporter is in custody and hopefully will be punished severely since she was working in a mission contracted with a Saudi supported media to create these riots and destructions. Unfortunately the regime has been too soft with the rioters to suppress them.
It’s not a mockery, the problem in Iran society and government is much more complicated than your questions; if you’re really interested I can explain that all.
Dear Ma'am Rania and Professor Mohammad Marandi, I appreciate your work and I like to say that Islam is a noble religion from first hand experience: I was advised by an Iranian many years (decades) ago on the religion - that Prophet teachings was from God and we can ask for help from the Prophet or his wife - Khatijah. One day after limping for 2 years, I asked him for help and I could walk properly after that. I had been advised - taught by the prophet through my late wife who could see the prophet and his wife and got to understand the religion. I hope Iran will receive peace soon. All the best to you both. And may Allah and the Prophet and his wife help you both. Kudus to all your good work.
Mr.Marandi is an officer of the Iranian government which is involved in the Iranian group which is dealing with the 5+1 group. Mr.Marandi is not an independent person. He is an employee of Iranian government.
I live in Iran and The first issue is very simple in the Iran's case. The regime is losing popularity even in it's own loyal population. And it has become so miserable that it's likely for it to start a war. Because with war propaganda it can last longer. So .... A collapsing regime CAN be a treat to the other countries and it's own people. Just look at Syria.
@@nextime3927He probably got his narratives from ManoTo one of those aggressive outlets last year which said Iran gov is collapsing. Now we can see, it was themselves who were collapsing because they were closed down 2 weeks ago since their supporter now are involved in bigger situation which is genocide in Gaza so they lost their supporter and couldn't continue (now we all can see who was behind all those event last year). Marandi is intelligent, there is no doubt about that. And when some information serves the narrative he wants to portray to the listener, he might say the truth. If someone is naive and unaware of current affairs in Iran, I can see how they can fall for his nonsense arguments, presenting himself as the victim. Things like "Hijab in Iran is not enforced" or "polls show that most Iranians are in favour of mandatory hijab" are lies and contradictory. I wish I could know what is his true motivation, as unlike most fanboys of Iran's Islamic regime, who are indoctrinated and brained washed from a young age in Iran, Marandi is western educated.

Iran’s regime is losing its grip on the population inside Iran, while trying to expand its threat to the region. Yes, both of those are true and that’s not hard to understand.
This is not new. According to Dr. Chomsky the biggest obstacle is the US Doctrine. @37:00 but it _can_ be both, in a sense. Cornered rat theory. A rougue state can be a significant threat to quite a few people, mainly their own, but also bordering nations. Iran has the contradiction of a highly skilled and liberal educated PMC and pretty reactionary anti-religious peasants (for want of a better word, who think they're highly religious, same as christian fascists, sort of, or loosely analogous). These are competing forces, and they can look like the're ripping a society apart, when underneath it all ordinary humble people (non-elites, non-reactionaries) just yearn for peace. They'll win, they're a majority, but they have no clue how they'll "win". Won't be the CIA who help get that win for peace, and it won't be the violent protesters either. It'll be your proverbial "Moms & Dads" before they grow too old and crusty and neoliberalized.

Turkey gets f16s and other NATO weaponry. But both Turkey and Iran have there own problem with Kurds. Are they the same Kurds in a political or organizational sense?
Kurds are originally Iranian people, subgroup within Aryan stock, Iran is original homeland of Kurds, who subsequently moved out of ancient Iran to other middle eastern countries like Iraq, Syria and Turkey. Their language is also belong to Iranic classification. Their original religion was Zoarastrianism. Both Turkey and Iran are bombing Kurds currently because the Kurds are demanding more rights and freedom, they are backed by the West and Israel. Today, Kurds are highly divided among themselves politically. So, separatist Kurds are common threat to turkey and Iran. Most of Kurds are sunni muslims, but sizeable minority of them are Shia, and the rest of Kurds stick to their ancient Iranian religion, and Christian Kurds, Yizidi Kurds etc. Kurds want a separate state for the long term in the middle east, which is threat to the territorial integrity of Turkey, Iran, Iraq and Syria.
Mr Marandi, having a morality police in the country where corruption and poverty are ripe is ridiculous. Mahsa should have never been arrested. Corrupt politicians are the one's that should be arrested. Please Mr Marandi, don't defend the indefensible. The establishment in Iran is in desperate need of reforms and people like Mr Marandi must push for it before it is too late. People in Iran are unhappy to put it mildly 😔 🙏 🙏
You are incorrect. Islam does not force hijab. Iran forced hijab for a long time now they’re starting to not force it because they know it’s against Islam to force Islamic teachings
Was expecting something a little more balanced about this confusing topic, ie more historical material class analysis. It's not that I don't believe this movement was cooped by US for their interests or whatever but its weird to hear the prof only say how many police died and expect me to care. ACAB forever, and especially when it's the police job to force personal choices onto its citizens. At no point does the Prof talk about the material conditions which made young women protest in the streets and fight for their lives. Is he really saying all these young kids were just paid by US to do this, and it's all fake?
What is the purpose of having a monologue with a regime propagandist, I wonder? Not a word of what Marandi is saying is true. The whole framing of this program is suspect. Why is there no one from the other side(s) to represent their views--to have a fair dispute? Iranian regime uses the same propaganda techniques that Nazi Germany used and now the Israeli regime uses against the Palestinian people. The only difference is that the Iranian regime is far more violent and brutal than its Israeli counterpart. As someone with far better academic credentials than Marandi and as someone who is witnessing the current events from close, I say that that what is unfolding in Iran really sad and tragic. To say that what is been done by the Iranian regime is a crime against humanity is an understatement. And don't talk about material condition to Marandi. I describe him as postcolonial postmodernist propagandist. Their whole crew hate Marxist or historical discourse with a passion.

@@audrey5985 I’m not wrong about Iran. I live in Iran and I have a doctorate in social science. I know what I’m talking about from lived experience. It is important to have an objective assessment of the situation. The accounts of violent crackdowns, mass murder of young, old, children, violence and tape in prisons, and techniques of intimidation are all accurate. From a sociological perspective, Iran is in the midst of a revolution and what Marandi says doesn’t change this reality. Except for a tiny minority who benefit from the regime (either ideologically/psychologically or financially or both), most sectors of the Iranian society cannot wait to get rid of this government (young, old, workers, business owners, cultural workers, intellectuals, academics, students, urban and rural residents etc). And Pompeo admitted on a French TV interview that the US is supplying arms to the Iranian rebels, who could have imagined that?
As much as I appreciate Professor Marandi's commentary, he seems to be the eternal optimist, even if Iran negotiates a watertight deal JCPOA deal, the Americans will break it anyway, remember, it's the 'international rules based order' where the US makes the rules and everyone else has to follow them, after all, the US is 'exceptional'!

Ronia;
The West consistently has accused Iran for lack of pragmatic leadership.
He was an advisor to the JCPOA but not a direct negotiator. He still provides the value that you are referring to. He’s not a statesman.

Exactly. You’re the first commenter I’ve seen who isn’t a bit of a troll.
@@cyrusnoblepersian9992 It's a mockery for sure. They're just agreeing with each other and not going into the weeds.

The regime is losing popularity even in it's own loyal population. And it has become so miserable that it's likely for it to start a war. Because with war propaganda it can last longer.
So .... A collapsing regime CAN be a treat to the other countries and it's own people.

As a pro Iranian regime Mr. Marandi is the best man to be interviewed. Sham on both of you
Marandi is intelligent, there is no doubt about that.
Also is it true that oil workers protested/strike bc of the regime or is this a lie? I'm half way thru this hour interview and have more questions than answers

A lot of our (US) protest violence seems to be possibly officially though covertly inspired.
