Hi Martin, great to see another video by you. Thanks for all the helpful detail regarding camera settings you went into. Clear skies m8 and I hope you see more of the aurora. I saw some flashes of light behind clouds where I am.
Thanks for watching, where things are going with the Suns surface, there are more regions of sunspots and flares detected, we may get more of this Aurora Activity, Fingers 🤞 🤞 🤞 crossed it happens again
@@MPAstro yeah and never mind the naysayers and trolls. They are not important. Despite lots of astro channels having mega views and prolly monetization and sponsor incentives I still think your honest and straight talking make you the best channel. Lol, just added a Nirvana 7 mm 82 degree EP to my collection. eBay auction win, brand new and at half the price so yeah, visual/photographic astronomy doesn't necessarily need to be expensive. Looking forward to your next vid 👍
Defo a life time event, with your images you can show everyone what you have achieved. We needed like this to happen, maybe this will attract more people into the hobby
Great capture. Timelapse was excellent. I saw the aurora in Surrey which is way south. Tried to image yesterday evening but no luck unfortunately. Oh well at least I saw it with my own eyes …😮
It certainly was, This is the best Aurora display for Scotland, I don't think we will ever get a better view than that display over Friday night. Don't forget that video footage you saw is not edited or photoshopped, nor is it a stupid AI image, that is the REAL DEAL right. there
Superb video Martin. Thank you for sharing the camera settings you used, most helpful. Maybe this is a silly question but was any exposure compenation used?
Well done for standing your ground Martin. Aurora are rare and its not even guaranteed when within the Arctic circle at northern latitudes. For starters have to be in correct part of the suns 11 year activity phase. Currently we are near the peak of the 11 year cycle hence sun activity is high. Then the charged particles have to actually hit the earth magnetic fields, and space is a pretty big place. Since moving to Northumberland seen the aurora several times on the coast and when at Kielder observatory. As you stated need the App and need a High KP index in the red to be visible naked eye and camera. Shame weather has been bad as missed alot
@rcpilot9963 Sorry to hear that BUT has I mentioned in my video, I predicted we could have many more Aurorae to come!!! Good News X8.79 Solar Flare has just been detected on tuesday 14th May 2024 at 17:51, WE MIGHT GET another inbound AURORAE COMING SOON!! We never know what's going to happen Fingers crossed!!!
Glad you decided to keep the video up mate its the right thing to do. Another good video mate. Im just beginning me journey into Astronomy and it started with an old camera with 8 secs exposures of the sky and ive been hooked since. Now the next logical thing to do is strap the camera to the telescope :)
@@MPAstro Hi Martin, Aw mate its been a journey so far. Im not putting crazy money into this. ive spent around 250. I got a skywatcher 130p with az goto mount. Canon 600d with magic lantern installed. t-ring adapters etc. Done the thermal jacket mod (totally works). Yesterday done the mirror mask and primary focus mod. All working and waiting for a clear night. :) Next things are full spectrum and filters for the camera.
Phone cameras can't break physical laws. Size of optics and size of the chip is important. If they have to fit them into a thin phone, they must be limited in their capabilities.
Yep it was terrible, I deleted a lot of these negative comments on that old video, I wished I'd left them on to be honest. This video was a serious whoop ass to the nay sayers out there

Hi Martin, glad you had such a great opportunity to see last spectacular G5 aurora storm. In my location in Poland I had heavy clouds unfortunatelly😟
