I am also new to miniature steam.. would love to own a miniature engine (road or rail) so this was super helpful.. I currently own a 7.25” electric locomotive
On a steam locomotive boiler there is no reinforcement plate to carry the cylinder block. Also the regulator which often goes through the backhead at a locomotive is on top of the cylinder block at a road locomotive.
