It took 30 years to get back, but some time around August of 1993 I traveled to the Astral plane, through space, time and matter, and this song was the catalyst. Last thing I remembered is sitting around a fire, looking at the radio and asking a shaman "who is this?" He replied "its Jerry, man..." and next thing I knew I was heading for Andromeda. I witnessed the fabric of the universe, the thread that tied all things together, and understood the duality of great and trivial things. It all matters and none of it does.
This was one of my favorite Dylan songs for decades before I heard these Legion of Mary cover versions. I was already tuned into Jerry’s amazing voice and the deep grooves of 74 Dead. This is the shit.
The band seemingly just barely holding it together elucidates the desperation of the narrator, the genius of Dylan as a composer, and the talent of Garcia as an interpreter.

It doesn't get any better than Garcia covering Dylan. Fact.
... that's just what Dylan said!
Nothing is better …
Garcia was, is, & forever will remain the premier player of Bob Dlyan tunes. Even Dylan agrees.

Since finding this particular version tonight, this is probably the fourth time I've played it this evening (just keep playing it over), great song-
