In 1955 or '56, my sister and her best friend sang this song in an amateur hour. My sister played her baritone ukelele. She and her friend worked out a harmony to a slightly different tune. I was quite young. I remember sitting in the darkened auditorium, watching my sister on a stage, of all places, singing a silly song quite beautifully. They won 1st prize. It is one of my few really warm and cherished memories of my sister. Thanks for this vid.
This is a hoot. Love Jo Mapes, but never saw this one before. However, the Wikipedia page on this TV program says Dennis James, the host, ended his run in 1953. So this show must have been no later than that.

I love this tune. I have it by Jimmie Rodgers. Thanks for posting. Great American classic.
The Happiest of Birthday's, Ms. Jo Mapes! ;-0)
Excellent! Second best version ever! The TV host had a bad night though.
There are more verses to the song , I only know this because my grandmother knew them all and sang them when I played the song one time.

i believe the moderator is Dennis James. He moderated many game shows in the late 1950s and 1960s.
RIP Jo
Had only heard this by Johnny cash I love this version now is this the original writer?
