Thanks for sharing! This is "my" airport when in Thailand. And I like it a lot. Everything is so easy and short distances to what ever you need to do. I only use the first 2-3 doors, since departure and arrival for me is in this part. Looks like there are some new vendors there opposite Dairy Queen. There are also a restaurant and "lounge" on your right hand from the stairs on the 2 floor, and 2 tiny snack shops at the waiting area at the departure area on the 2nd floor. Thai Smile normally operates all flights for Thai Airways, even if you buy the ticket from Thai Airways website. I always travel with Thai Smile since I have connecting flights from Suvarnabhumi. And I have bad experience with Air Asia, so they are out of business for my part. The most reliable car rental in Udon is not at the airport, but have pickup and delivery there. I have rented cars from UD Car Rental Udon Thani many times. They are the only one with real english speaking staff, reasonable priced and smooth pick up and delivery. And you get the car you have booked, clean and in good shape. I have used some of the other ones in the area, both local and international. But always something wrong with the booking and or car, insurance coverage and so on. But UD Car Rental have never had any issues. The car park is always full even they have built new parking lanes regularly. To find a vacant perking spot near the terminal building you need a good portion of good luck.
Thanks for the info. I have only rented a car in Thailand once and it was from a small company. "I have bad experience with Air Asia, so they are out of business for my part." - lol
Same for me. I live in UT full time and prefer flying Thai Smile whenever possible. I'd rather fly to BKK instead of DMK. My feeling about AirAsia is that if they could figure out how to add in an extra fee for air in the cabin, they would. :-)
Thanks for the video. The revetments at the other end of the taxiway are reminiscent of the days when I was stationed here during the Vietnam war. We had F4 fighter jets parked clear down to the trim pad which is still there. Air America was here also. I spent a lot of time out on the flight line. It was a very busy place. It is a sentimental trip down memory lane every time I go out to the Airport. This terminal was not here at that time. It was built after the Americans left.
i wonder how it would look today ... i was quite surprised at how many people there were, with the pandemic and all. how is thailand doing in all of this and how is your place impacted? i´m in istanbul and we have to wear masks to go shopping, use public transport, most places (except for food shopping and health) are closed down, the last 1.5 months people under 20 and over 65 aren´t allowed to go outside, same for all people in 31 cities over the weekends - almost total shutdown on the weekend. watching your videos makes me want to plan my next trip. nice way to escape the boredom of home and try to remember the feel of the airport, hot and humid thai climate, try to remember the smell of those soups, the busyness of the markets... thanks again
£3 drop off..the greedy turds and every time you go its changed again and looks worst than the last, its the only place ive been in the world that you have to pay for a trolley .i am mancunian and it makes me feel embarressed for others coming here for the 1st time..then try and find your car ,what a joke.
@@ivornappinion9406 Is it 3. I know you had to pay to get back out. I had a transfer by bus to the airport last year when I flew home. 3 quid is still 3 quid too much.. just to drop someone off. You dont pay to drop off here in Switzerland. Thats about the only thing that is Free here lol Dont tell the Swiss..
@@ivornappinion9406 I go back to visit family its not a holiday lol. Swiss wife thats how i ended up here its OK. But I can think of better places to live.
This place is shur down now I think, there was talk of starting up domestic flights again, the rules were nuts, no way a airline would survive with so few people and all the rules, no idea if it started yet.
@BobMel simple living.. I have my mom's families in Udon and we also travel at this airport. It's been almost 4 years in Dec for me since I last came here. Things have changed a lot. I don't know when it'll be back to normal bc whenever I arrive here, we have a lot 15 to 20 family members come pick us up lol
Hello Kelly. I understand the desire to visit family. It hasn't been 4 years for us but we miss the trips. We have family in the Philippines that we want to visit but who knows when that will be possible. Best wishes Bob.
@@lifeinthailand I love birds. I've went, 'birding,' in quite a few countries over the years just going out in the great outdoors to see what I could see from hiking tropical jungles to boating on the Nile. The great horn bill and the birds of paradise proved to be a bit too elusive to spot or habitat destruction is just too profound to see what people must had easily seen 30 or more years ago anywhere in the world. Zoos and aviaries allow us to see and imagine what the world used to be like before industrialization, pollution, rapid globalization, and oil palm plantations took hold. Bali Bird Park is a really good one to see.
I was gonna say, no covid19 quarantine in the Land of Smiles and then I remembered you told us your subs that videotape videos and save them and later when you get a chance you upload them here unto RUclips. That's a nice Airport, and being International, stirred my curiosity, are there direct flights from Thailand to Mexico and/or other Latin American Countries? Or indirect only, flying first to Europe or the States and then to the desired destination, in this case Latin America? LOL...."now where did I park?" ;)
No direst flight to Mexico I don't think, there was a direct flight to LAX, I think it stopped, took like 18 hours or something, but I have been out of the internation flight game for a long time, things have probably changed. For flights to North America there is normally a lay over in Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, something like that. I liked Japan best, it slpits the flight time up the most.
Kan folded about a year and a half ago. Soup place next to BK is very good, probably the best food there. If your lucky you may get to see F-16's taking off or landing.
I wasn't expecting chic to be pronounced Chick, as in the slang term for women, which makes it sound like a prostitute rental company, not sheek, meaning high class car rentals. But either way I guess your probably getting an 18 year old.

Thanks for making me miss my home city , My Wife is from NongBua so we fly in and out of Udon all the time
I liked Nongbua, hotels sucked but plenty to do and very friendly people.
Don’t stay in hotel there as my wife’s home is 15 minutes away but we usually stay in Udon

Is this located on the site of the former RTAFB .

There was a US airbase/base there in Udon Thani around late 1960s up to 1976, right.
Yes, I think the air base was on this site, they still use the same runway.
