Rik's best role hands down. He was born to play a snooty toff like B'stard and he does it brilliantly. The only complaint I have about this show is that many MP's now are just real life versions of B'stard
Indeed! I had other stuff lined up, but I decided to do this instead. I enjoyed it so much that I got it done really quickly! I wasn't fighting with myself like I usually do. Thanks for watching!
Marsha Fitzalan - fabulous actress. And daughter of a Duke... so her character was something possibly much like her upbringing in the show. Certainly plenty of things to work with
Oh absolutely! I think they must have realised that they were wasting her in series 1. And yes my dad told me! I think I'll probably mention it when I give it a proper review next year
In terms of political comedies I think one worth discussing is Dennis Potters Vote Vote Vote Nigel Barton Made for TV in 60s, as someone who is involved with local politics, Its the most true to real life program about canvasing and politics I've watched. About Nigel Barton, labour candidate in safe Tory seat and his ups and downs and disillusionment. His agent and groups he deals with are very funny and honest Based on Dennis Potter actual experience standing in Tory seat, he was so depressed at the end he didn't bite for himself He of course wrote pennies from heaven and the singing detective which my first viewing recently I understand the acclaim Anyways apologies for tangent but thought worth spreading the word how good that is
Lovely video! The series does have a quite beautiful cynical, almost cartoony tone, like spitting image puppets were played by people. It is still very watchable and enjoyable. I do think some of the most quotable and famous moments come from the first series, especially the NHS speech. It does evolve as it goes along like you said so I think I'll have to give a revisit And I love the shout-out to that amazing comic strip, discovering those last few years, especially the political ones like Strike and GLC the movie is a great joy
Yeah it is wonderful! The Strike is one of my favourites! I do like Red Nose of Courage too [the John Major one I showed in the video] because all I needed to know was that John Major was the most boring man alive! Thanks for watching!
Norman’s sex change wasn’t ’trans representation’. The series was made decades ago. No-one was using phrases like ‘cis-het’. We laughed at a character who was nothing more than a dodgy accountant who was going to extreme lengths to avoid being held accountable for his actions.
I like the laid-back documentary feel of this video 👍
Aw thank you!
that wallace and gromit bit is honestly SO hilarious lol!!!
Thank you so much! This video was probably the one I had the most fun editing.
God I love these documentaries! More please
Aw thank you so much!
New Enchanted Essays drop! Everyone stay calm!

The more Rik Mayall-related video entertainment, the better!
Thank you! I'll keep them coming!

You seriously dont get comedy if you make videos like this
I don't get comedy because I adore this show? If you're a Rik hater, why bother watching?
