Thanks for the review! Mine is on the way, I got the Translucent Green one. I'm playing on my OG Xbox almost daily so this is a welcome addition to the setup.
I’ve been playing a lot of Xbox recently and all my Controller S are a little bit busted. Your review has convinced me this is worth the price. Thanks :)
love this controller for original xbox. however, when playing splinter cell chaos theory, the joysticks were SO sensitive that i couldn't play the game. the camera was flying all over the place. would love to see an update or some way to reduce thumbstick sensitivity
I really like these pads! A couple of minor things like the sensitivity and mild trigger dead zones but those should be cleared up without much trouble.
I hava a good test idea. Load up NFS, start a two player stock quick drag race/sprint with the same car, and with each player using a different controller, hit the gas with the trigger at the same time. As much as I love my wireless logitech controllers, they some how don't accelerate at the same rate an S controller does. This is why my wife would beat me at times back in the day as I perfered the Logitech and she likes the S controller. They seem to register the full range of travel as the S controller in controller test software. Maybe it is a polling rate issue?
I have issues with my right, mainly it’s not recognizing as a full tilt typically upwards so running in some games is a bit annoying cause it usually is makes the character walk instead of running depending on the game
I admit i was really excited about this controller when news dropped that they were making it. I do have a lot of apprehension with Retrofighters tho, so I was expecting it to have a "more of the same" kind of issues. Your reviews are my go to of course and this one makes me hopeful. Might have to pick this one up >.>
The next update should iron out the issues I brought up! Once that drops this will definitely be the current definitive wireless option for the system!
Great review! I recently ordered a Hunter and I'd like to know how's been your experience with it so far? I've read complaints about the triggers having a noticeable deadzone even after the update. Is the D-pad good for 2D games as well? I play on PC, I don't know if the issues people mentioned were regarding the OG Xbox. Thank you for all the invaluable content as always. It's hard to find nowadays a channel with top notch quality and impeccable tutorials. Stay retro!
@@ArchadesGames So have the updates lessened the performance? I'm gonna test the controller before updating it but I thought the latest firmware addressed some of the issues
I got mine in today and the sticks are constantly not fully registering a full tilt to any direction, resetting it works for a good five min then goes back to not registering a full tilt
@@ArchadesGames I pair my defender and blade controllers up with the same receiver on pc and have absolutely no problem with them, only this controller
Ive emailed RF and they got back to me: a firmware update in the next 2-3 weeks will allow black and white button functionality on PC. I did not get any other details as to if that's just going to mirror LB & RB or allow full remapping capabilities, but im so glad i asked them. They're working on it so just sit tight gamers.
It be cool if someone makes a Og Xbox style controller for the Xbox One/Series X, similar to how Hyperkin did with their 360 style controller for that console.
Mine recently came in and at first the controller was promising. The ergonomics are great, buttons feel good to press and the analog sticks tilt and rotate smoothly. Fired up Halo: CE and was disappointed very quickly. Something didn't feel right with aiming on the right analog stick. Turns out the issue is due to poor diagonals on the right analog stick making smooth aiming impossible. Maybe this can be fixed with a firmware update but until then I'd avoid this controller unless you only play games that don't require good aiming.
They recently released a firmware update for it. But it doesn't fully fix the problem. The diagonal direction still seems to be slow, despite the update.
Just got mine today and I excitedly hooked my Xbox back up, only to be immediately disappointed when the controller wouldn't sync up with the Xbox adapter. I checked the manual to make sure I wasn't missing anything, and nope, I'm doing everything correctly. The adapter just doesn't recognize the controller. I'm really disappointed.😢
@@ArchadesGames Oh, that was a question in reply to TandyOne. Without punctuation I could not tell the first read. I plugged in my controller and booted up Halo MCC & Infinite, the black and white doesn't do anything - I've emailed Retro Fighters about this and they said they'd get back to me about remapping. We should really push for some kind of firmware update.
Good first party controllers are always my first recommendation but these are a great alternative especially for wireless use. Still the few minor things I mentioned but I expect them to be ironed out before long.
The joysticks don't work great on this controller. It seems that they move slower in the diagonal directions. I've experienced this issue for both Halo 1 / 2 on PC.
Wait... how did you get the black one? I wanted to buy one, but all they have is the transparent green, which doesn't match my non halo edition console, lol. Kinda like the look but i added my email to the "inform me when this is available" list.
Pressure sensitivity doesn't work via USB? That SUCKS. Sometimes I think companies don't understand that these controllers best use-case is for emulation via PC.
Any issues with excessive lag? Mine is borderline unplayable the lag is so bad. I have multiple other 2.4ghz controllers for other consoles that do not have that issue at all.

@TwoQuickOnes same issue with me playing old madden games on my original xbox, stick drift.
Thanks for the review,
I order 2 in Hunter Green
I need to get some of the green ones to match my Halo Xbox!
Man the black looks slick. They only had the green when I got mine. Controller itself is great through, works perfect.
Mine is on it's way! Looking forward taking it out for a spin!
Oooh nice!
Thank you for another great review. I will be ordering these once available in EU again
Nice, a new firmware addressing the few minor things is also in the works so hopefully it will be even better when you get it!
It is looking like the dream controller we have always wanted! Can't wait to pick one up! Is it $50?

That looks like a hybrid between Original Xbox controller S and Xbox 360 controller.
It is a pretty good looking pad!
is there a way to calibrate the joysticks? I have issues with my right stick when aiming in halo 1

The updates introduced some regressions but it's still working well enough on Xbox. PC use has been fine to me for Apex use.

If you're only using it on PC you shouldn't have any issues

This is using pc not of Xbox so not sure if there’s a difference
If it doesn't happen like that on PC it sounds like the USB receiver might be faulty. If it happens on both the pad itself may be faulty.

Hyperkin already has a Duke and a Controller S was announced

Other option would be to get a Brook adapter to use whatever wireless controller

Apparently you got to press the button on the back of the controller
My biggest thing is the rumble/vibration. How is that in comparison to the original wired controllers? Is it as strong? Thanks in advance
Not the same but plenty strong
I couldn't get the white and black buttons to function on the PC. The shoulder buttons work though. Is there something I'm missing?
Do they act as a turbo button enabler instead
@@ArchadesGames you said in your review it mirrors LB and RB, so which is it?
I have had both and that's why I asked.

Awesome review bro!!!! Have you tested it on a Android box? Thanks!!!👍👍👍
I don't own any Android boxes but I don't see it causing any issues since it shows up as a standard 360 controller.

No, it's under a frame for me.
Could this work on the newer Series Consoles ?
Not without a brook adapter, if those are even still working.
Does the Xbox dongle need to be charged also?
Might sell off all my Logitech wireless controllers can grab a couple of these
It is what I did honestly. Got rid of my last 3 Logitech after these showed up.
Will the pressure sensitive buttons work with PS2 emulation?
The USB receiver doesn't do pressure sensitivity
What game is that? 3:55
Half-Life 2
Okay, thank you👍
they should make another version for current gen Xbox consoles
It's practically the same price as a Series X controller, what would be the point?

a version or a patch to make it work on current gen consoles like Xbox Series X/S
Hi, is this controller compatible with the Xbox 360?
No, PC and Original Xbox

No, only OG Xbox
Retrofighters need to up their quality control. Always production issues with their pads.
This one still has issues. The joystick sensitivity is a bit off / slow in the diagonal directions.
¡Xbox,lmao!
