I’m only 26 years old but I have been doing this type of work for quite awhile because that’s what a lot of my family does as well. Mainly concrete with a little bit of everything else mixed in here and there. I have learned so much from you just from watching your videos. The people in your life that have the pleasure of dealing, working & learning with you or from you are very lucky. Thank you for taking the time to make all these awesome videos. We all appreciate it!
SOOOO HAPPY you're filming a new 'long' project!! I absolutely LOVED learning SOOO MUCH from watching the ENTIRE Spec House series! And yes this is a smaller, simpler project but as you said it REALLY IS more likely gonna be similar to what the majority of people are gonna do - ESPECIALLY if they are learning things about the build from RUclips LOL (meaning they aren't professional "builders" and have graduated from the DIY label) So THANK YOU for ONCE AGAIN taking us along for the ride in yet ANOTHER WONDERFUL JOURNEY into the World of THE Essential Craftsman. Thank YOU!!! :D
Love me some EC! When I come here to watch videos a few key words enter my mind. Humble, honesty, integrity, family, honor and that’s naming a few. Doesn’t get much better than this. Shoot for perfection, accept and be satisfied with excellence. ❤️💯🙌
Funny. When you do this stuff for 30 years for work, you find yourself watching it while relaxing. I guess that's a sign one loves his profession. Another great video. Thanks for entertaining and informing even the most experienced people
Haha, I’m a construction super, 27 y.o., I watch people do this for 8 hours at work then come home and watch people do it on RUclips! It is refreshing seeing the 100% diligence in EC and others here on RUclips. True craftsmen are not gone!
Been at this sort of work for a long while, still like to see what other people do. It always amuses me that RUclips creators all seem to buy a small excavator as soon as they can !
Your new toy needs a hook or an eye on the back of the bucket to attach chains or straps. Running a chain across the edges will break the chain or cut a strap in time. Keep up the good work. Cam
In Saskatchewan we call that saw a widow maker 😉. Another useful tool to be used with the utmost of respect. Looking forward to seeing your project come together
While the 040 is 300 times more efficient than the tractor backhoe,I was surprised to see that you purchased a piece of equipment that is supposed to be greased daily. As always, a great video.
A great breakdown. Thank you for all your trade knowledge, your videos have been a valuable resource now as a third year Form Carpenter apprentice. Thank you for everything and God bless you!
I am at somewhat of a loss to explain why I derive so much enjoyment watching you do these things. Especially when, myself, should be doing these things to my own home. Perhaps it have something to do with the willingness of your family to be hands on. Perhaps it's the adeptness that comes with your experience. Whatever it might be: I am excited to see this unfold.
I have been doing hardscaping for nearly 20 years. For some reason from the beginning of my career I have had an affinity and respect for the cut off saw. I use a Stihl TS 420 i am always impressed with the performance and longevity of that saw.
Those makita 4 strokes can be a real pain to start. They really make me appreciate my Hilti. Gotta pickup a quick connect for the hose to saw connection point, will make your life much easier
I saw that in the background. Making the grandkids pull nails with a framing hammer. It’s not what I would use if I had a punch of nails to pull but I guess it builds character
Wow, end of the episode, that explanation of all the work to be done had me feeling like i was trying to do high level trigonometry or something. 🥴💫😂 Awesome 👍
You will like a mini-excavator a lot more than your backhoe; minis are a great tool and can have a lot more functionality than the backhoe portion of the backhoe.
Greetings from sweden! Just wanted to let you know that I love this, watching and hearing you speak about it all is very interesting! Found your channel during the spechouse, been a fan ever since. Regards
@@johnirwin1837 - Thanks for the correction... I’ve only dealt with campground outlets and smaller usually older travel trailers, so my knowledge of the subject as far as the higher end and newer, is rather incomplete. :-)
A friend of mine wasn’t allowed to put a sanitary sewer line in his new shop. It’s on a lake property and It would have made the building inhabitable and I’m guessing secretly rentable. I wonder how this rule varies in different locations and situations.
2:35 isn't a 240v plug; if that was originally intended for an RV, it would be a 30 Amp 120v 3-prong plug(Should be labeled as a NEMA Tt-30R). A more modern setup would have 120v / 240v split phase service, which has two 50 amp, 120v hot leads with a ground and a neutral(NEMA 14-50R).
@@Ichabod_Jericho Unlike most of my family, I didn't go into a traditional trade but Electrician would be high on my list of jobs I wouldn't want to do because it's one of the few that can get you killed because of someone else's mistake. Although when wearing my Infrastructure Engineer hat I do have to deal with everything from low voltage Power over Ethernet equipment, to high voltage in a Data center, so I do need to know enough to speak with an electrician using technical terminology that they understand. The reason I recognized the receptacle is because my grandparents, parents, siblings and extended family all seem to love land yachts(formally known as RVs) of various types and they all want the ability to hook up to power when visiting(I prefer motorcycles and hotels). So I personally have a GFCI Outlet Panel(with a service disconnect) installed that has two 120v, 20 amp(NEMA 5-20R GFCI WR), NEMA 14-50R and a NEMA TT-30R for when I have visitors. And to make the wires useful for when I don't have any visitors, I use them in combination with a manual transfer switch for a Generator hookup.
For the water feed. Just pipe it straight from the house to the shop. Don't bother with a shutoff in the middle, do two shutoffs on either end. The one in the middle will loose its handle to rust very quickly and no one will want to use it.
An extra thick, extra tall stem wall and you have a retaining wall that can easily hold the dirt in place and make a nicer and more secure bed for the plants along the fence.
LB, LR, and LL....they way you can identify them is hold the shortest male coupling end in your hand making it look like a toy pistol.,...if the opening is facing left, then it is an LL, top - LB, right - LR...hope that makes sense.
Nice. My only "concern" has nothing to do with the building but with the Pampa's grass. Here in Spain (at least the North-West) it was introduced some 30 years ago and it was used to, somehow, garnish the median strip in a highway. The problem is it's an invasive species and it's really hard to get rid of. It loves places where other plants don't grow so quickly or not at all, such as construction sites left abandoned for long enough, and once they're there...
I would like to build my own home, and needed some advice, since I can probably only afford one of these two machines, what is more important a skid Steer or an excavator like yours, I'm leaning towards the Excavator?
I like this so much better than the house build. That series just turned into you having other people do stuff. I like to see you figuring it out and making it happen

I'd really like to have that old fence wood 😂 if you don't want it that is. But since I'd have to drive from Kitsap county Washington to pick it up, it's probably not cost effective these days for my project to get it. Sad!
I do not understand why all these houses have irrigation systems in the pacific northwest? I noticed you put one in on the spec house.. is it just expected?
Would you prefer to remove thicker concrete slabs instead of reinforced slabs? It would be nice to know what's easier to get rid of when time catches up.
You can't break slabs with rebar into chunks, you have to cut the rebar first, and the diamond saw won't cut through rebar, so that complicates things.

Very smart purchase on the Kubota excavator! Now you should upgrade your tractor! Kubota Grand L! 😎👍
A tip when running your new toy, put the blade down with some pressure to keep the machine planted
He has it down enough to lift front up slightly. He is just digging in some hard ground next to drive.
