Very happy for gukesh. Ding too is a thorough professional and extremely gracious in defeat. A positive advertisement for chess as a gentleman's sport. I am nowhere in comparison to chess greats but this contest is testament to simple individuals with no ego. In the past champions have debated on venues, prize funds, chairs, psychological pressure etc. However, here we have 2 individuals who have given it their all, played well, made human blunders and made chess a beautiful game to enjoy. Kudos to both of you and in my eyes both of you have won.
Yesterday evening was one of the craziest days of my life. Thank you, ChessBase India, for the live coverage. The crowd went wild with Sagar's commentary-it was absolutely electric. Gukesh's mind is like steel and his heart, gold. He is incredibly tough-the grandmaster with the highest level of mental resilience.
His humility is what we admire the most. Winning gracefully with no ego, honoring Ding first in his press conference, thanking god at so many points, not gloating at all, taking time to set the board after. This is a champion - mind, heart and soul.
But ding never smiled even after heavy won the game bcoz he felt guilty for the player he defeated and ding said in the interview its not a respect to smile or laugh if we we bcoz someone lost even after this much struggle... no hate but u should see that
