    edit- Larry Carlton on the guitar solo on Kid Charlemagne.
    He also does the guitar solo on Steely Dan's "Don't Take Me Alive", which you haven't reacted to yet.

      These guys need to listen to the words. They are missing out on the best part of Steely Dan. It is the Lyrics. If you think the music is great, the Lyrics will shock you. This Song was about a Drug Kingpin in 1960 San-Fran, that invented LSD, and his whole claim to fame, then crash and burn. A TRUE Story as are most of the songs they have written about.

    One of my most favorite Steely Dan songs! Based on the story of Owsley Stanley a sound engineer for the Grateful Dead who made the best LSD back in the day. 🔥💖😎

      Exactly, most of the Lyrics of many Steely Dan songs are of underworld deeds, but the music tune is bright and cheerful... very deceptive.

    Fun fact for you boys. Larry Carlton (the guitarist) showed up at the studio, they gave him the chord charts and played the track, he played around with some ideas for a few minutes, then he did both solos in two takes. They took the best parts of both takes and he left in about 30 minutes or so from when he entered the studio. He also played all the riffing throughout the song.

    A song about Augustus Owsley the 3rd the best underground LSD chemist in the history of life! I was fortunate enough to have sampled some of his product. Oh, his nickname was " Bear " and he was also the sound man for the Grateful Dead. There's some knowledge 🙂

    Steely Dan, so many albums, so many tracks and not a bad one among them. I've searched and can't find one !!! Apart from brilliant compositions by Donald Fagen & the late Walter Becker, you will find their engineering in the recording studio is top notch sound reproduction mixing etc, and basically , as good as it gets, only equaled by very few artists that includes the incredible duo from "Yello", Dieter Meier & Boris Blank. On a good sound system you have sonic bliss at it's finest.

    It wouldn't hurt to listen again with the lyrics, it's a great story. "... white men on the streets" refers to cocaine. "Is there gas in the car? Yes there's gas in the car" Owsley got busted once when he ran out of gas.
    Great song with a great story behind it.

      Owsley Stanley III was a brilliant man: audio engineer, inventor and clandestine chemist who, by his own admission, produced some 5 million doses of LSD in a about 2 years.

    • @mandandanmandamayor3511
      @mandandanmandamayor3511 2 года назад

      I am pretty sure "white men on the streets" is refering to the gentrification of the Cit;y. Hippies were fading out and the Silicon Valley businessmen were taking over the street. So yes, in a way cocaine was being used more than LSD, but it was because of the business men and all of their money.

But my best guess is you don’t have a clue what you have.
