This is the best and easiest cups tutorial out there. It worked, unlike the other tutorials that didnt even mention that I have to add printer like that. Thanks
Thanks you, I really searched a lot to get my samsung printer working with cups on raspberry pi, your video helped me get this working thank you once again
My "position of the planets" ;) have aligned just today. Was struggling hard to make old Xerox phaser 3122 printer work on new operating system as there are no drivers available. Now it runs on raspberry pi. Thanks a lot man.
For ZEBRA Users: Zebra GK420t. But might work on other models. I've selected the EPL 1 in the CUPS model selection ( 3:18 in the video ) when adding it to the Raspberry Pi. Then on windows after adding the Zebra using the URL ( 5:07 in the video). I've selected the ZDesigner driver for the GK420t and it worked :D
MASTER!!!!! The best tutorial!!!! .... I would add one more line for those who have other printers. I have a Citizen CX-02 photo printer / sudo apt-get install printer-driver-gutenprint 🙏 Thank you!!!!! ❤
I have installed HP Deskjet 1212 printer on my raspi zero. It is working fine and am able to print pdfs perfectly. However, after enabling overlayFS (making the SD card readonly) printing doesn't work. Again when I disable overlayFS (make the SD read/write) it works fine as earlier. All functions of raspi work fine when overlayFS is enabled except for printing. Enabling overlayFS is crucial for the deployment of my application. What I see in /var/log/cups/error_log is a 'filter-failed' error. I'm sure it's not the real problem as filter is working fine when overlayFS is disabled. Any help would be appreciated.
I see that your tutorial doesn't install samba in order to print from a windows computer, as other tutorials install that. Have you done other setups where you found it necessary to install samba?
Hello friend, nice work from you. How to weather my printer is supported with cups or not? My printer model number is brother dcp-l2520d, can we make this wireless server? Will appreciate your help.
Hi everything is working well but I don’t know how to name the pc that print .at the print job monitor on the user name it’s show unknown! Can you help me pls .
That last part is really good point! It's not always about adding new features...Sometimes manufacturers have implemented so crappy features that they NEED to be replaced.
Hi! Classic mix-up of lowercase L and uppercase i. First letter is lowercase L. The "lpadmin" group is created when CUPS is installed, which I confirmed to still be true by testing it on my PC running Ubuntu. I hope this solves your problem. Cheers!
this tutorial is pretty useless now, 200$ for a raspberry pie? For that amount you can get a pretty decent second hand multi function printer that has a wifi built in and is much more reliable.
Please. DO NOT tell the poeple the complicated way. even if the OS has access to the network this does not mean it supports the printer by providing the OS specific needed drivers. - it simple as is, take an Airprint ready printer, i..e. Samsung 2020 series (HP now). - or install a USB connected printer via printer sharing over IP , http, CUPS port 631 or Socks or whatever you want. Take something that works easily , OSX does. It serves those OSx-, Windooze- Linux-, Android-clients hwo can not have a driver supplied by HP (Samsung). Plan B- just print using a Postscript driver. Some old HP Postscript printers drivers are available on every OS. For some dumb Windooze clients run Bonjour-support, DL on Apple website. support.apple.com/downloads/bonjour_for_windows They will show those shared printers (on OSX) Windooze does not show. Free the Rasberry, make it a Pi-Hole. This is what I have in the workshop.
after watching many videos on this subject... this one is the most complete of all!! thanks

Thank you so much, man :)
This works great, but it seems gutenprint doesn't support color laser printers and my Dell 2130cn doesn't have its own driver.

Thanks for this, but i have a problem. The output has a margin on the top of the page and in my pdf file it has no top margin.
I tried this video but thier is no output,. Your lucky it go well on you.
Can I skip the update step when I install my newly downloaded Raspbian a week ago?
how about for CANON G1000 series?
Thanks Bro.
You are welcome!
You can do this for any printer that doesn't have Wired or Wireless connectivity and any printer that disconnects from the network too much.
That last part is really good point! It's not always about adding new features...Sometimes manufacturers have implemented so crappy features that they NEED to be replaced.
@@Hugatry Some printers have an internal Wi-Fi chip that goes bad or the manufacturer adds spotty Wi-Fi to a firmware update.
