    I can't believe there are people like you out there who can actually explain something better than teachers do in my school. This was indeed very easy to do. My so called "instructions" sounded way too complicated compared to what you did. Thank you! :)

    Why, oh why can't all tutorials be as good as this?!! Having messed up my Pi trying to follow someone explaining (or, rather, trying to explain) exactly the same thing I had to reinstall the OS. By following this video I managed to set up my printer first time with no hassle. Thank you, and keep up the good work!!!

    June 14, 2017. CUPS 1.7.5 on Raspberry Pi 3 works very nicely with wi-fi connected printers as well. Setup is very straightforward. Thanks for introducing me to CUPS.

    CUPS is awesome, I've had an old HP LaserJet 1020 that was working very well, but unfortunately driver support have been abandoned on OSX a long long while ago.
    My internet router has a hard drive and also the possibility of installing a virtual machine. I've installed Ubuntu on a VM, CUPS, plugged the printer to the router usb port, looked for open source Linux drivers... Now I can print from all my OSX machines without having to install any drivers, I can even print from my android phone ! I'm amazed. Thanks !!

    You should do an update video on CUPS. I just set up a Raspberry Pi CUPs server for an old Brother Network printer to use with my iPad. So I needed CUPS, Smba and added airprint.
    It wasn’t very easy with the new iPad not accepting the Raspberry Pi certificate. But I finally got it.

    Your explanation was the only one which worked for me - using VNC always worked regardless, but I did want to use VNC all the time. Another thing is: I can print using the GUI, but not using "lpr" from the command line even though I issued "sudo apt install lpr". It doesn't error out, but it doesn't print either.

    Wow, a full week on Raspberry Pi looks quite interesting. So what the things that comes to mind? One scenario might include having Internet browser with many tabs opened while doing some editing work on LibreOffice/OpenOffice. Add some image editing or video editing (oh God) and the Pi start crunching numbers for ever! just a thought, though.
    Hope this experiment being well documented, as usual.

    Hi, I'm a newbie in the Raspberry Pi community.. I recently used a RP to understand its working using the command line interface. That worked ok for my uses. Now I saw this informative video about using the RP as a Printer server. It caught me a lot cause I need a way to connect my USB inkjet printer to my LAN home network. One question arises.. After successfully programing the PI to do printer sharing what comes if there is a power outage ?? Will I have to go all over the prgramming procedure to get the RP back to its server job ? If it is, Is there a way to boot it in some way to get it back to its server work ? Boot Batch file ? Thanks. Jean-Pierre

    Will this work on any type of printer or does it work on selected printers only. I have a thesis on self service printing kiosks. Thank you.

    • @ExplainingComputers
      @ExplainingComputers  6 лет назад

      Any printer will need a driver of some kind, and this method can be used to install a driver for any printer. How well that driver will work with that printer will depend on how compatible it is. Most printers will work with a generic driver for models from that manufacturer. But to work optimally, a model-specific driver is needed. So whether this works optimally for the printing kiosks will depend on whether there is a Linux driver for the hardware involved.
