BMW M4: Owner's Review

- I thought it was about time I reviewed something, and where better to start than my own BMW M4? After living with the car every day for a couple of years, find out what I like and what I don't like about the sports coupe, and which options I think are worthwhile.

Thanks for the review - detailed and informative (I have a 66 plate Comp pack - love it - and it seems fine and balanced well)
Leave it in D or R when your turn the car off and it will automatically jump in to park 👍🏻
Good to know! I wasn't aware of that.
Hi! Great video! Between the M4 and the C63 coupe, which one do you prefer and which exterior design do you like? Thank you
Got the 4 series GC. Love the HUD and 360 degree cameras. Got the manual the the start stop function is rubbish and far to picky. Annoying that I can’t turn it off permanently but have to every time I start the car. Not as fast as the M4 but still around 6 secs to 60 and great fun.
The start/stop doesn't bother me, but I can understand how it would. On that note, something I didn't mention in the video is that there's no way to preset the modes (throttle response, steering and suspension); it starts up in efficient, sport, sport (regardless of how it was set on your last drive).
Keep up the good work 😎
Hi m8 great vid am torn between a c63 amg v8 2012 or m4 2017 b4 opf crap torn about really m4 would be a longer term over the merc but what are running costs service mainly. Look after yourself m8
Not to be that guy, but in this price range a Audi s5/rs5 is a proper value proposition
Funnily enough, I'll be reviewing that model of C63 soon. But I can tell you this already: whereas that C63 has more character, I think the M4 beats it in every other area (especially running costs - although that's not saying it's cheap!).
I like Audis (I used to have a V8 S4), but I find them very sterile nowadays. Having said that, I think their interiors kick the competitions' ass!
Thanks for the review. I’m looking to buy a coupe or convertible but I need it to be safe and not unpredictable as the mrs may be driving it. Competition it is
It's unpredictable on the limit, insofar as it gives very little warning of letting go (and that's not a controversial statement - many reviews say the same). If she won't drive it hard, she might be okay. I haven't driven a Comp Pack, but I hear it's much improved. I hope you have fun, whatever you choose!
I have a 'standard' 2016 M4 DCT and as long as you don't hoon it or put it in MDM (M Dynamic Mode) in the wet, you SHOULD be ok. However the Comp Pack had some small tweaks to the suspension, but later ones also got the revisions done for the CS version, with updated software for the DCT 'box and different M-Diff calibration (I believe also a tweak to the throttle map too), supposedly they are way better than the M4 in all conditions (plus you have the circa 19 extra BHP!).
As a personal recommendation, some may say otherwise, I'd also make sure it has the BMW star-rated Michelin Pilot Supersport tyres, some come with Conti Sport Contact (or even Pirelli P Zero) and in my view the PSS is a superb tyre. If you don't go BMW star marked, then the Michelin P4S is the later 'replacement' for PSS - BMW are now fitting on the newer models, but they're not 'star marked' for the M4.
I want a manual one ( in the UK) as a daily driver, would you strongly discourage me or do you think it would be fine?
I wouldn't discourage you at all. It's a great car and I used mine daily.
@@MotoringNomad thanks for replying. so were you referring to a manual m3 (the one I want) or an automatic?
@@187g For its jerkiness around town? The automatic (and it's fine if you don't run it sport or sport+). You won't have any such issue with a manual.
Why are you driving around town in sports + mode?
I don't, for the reasons I mentioned, but the valves being open in the exhaust is a good reason for driving in Sports/Sports+. It's not just in town... anything that's not hard acceleration is a kangeroo-type mess in Sports/Sports+. I know I'm not alone by the forums, but I don't like to keep changing drive modes - I tend to find a setting I like and stick with it, not change it depending on the environment. You might be different, and that's fine too.
that fart sound from the revs is gross.
The BMW M4 sound the better from all the cars with the same pricing.
They really don't. The Mercedes AMG C63 sounds so much better I felt sorry for the M4.
@@MotoringNomad C63 and E63s are monsters.
Except the Jag F type which switchable exhaust
@@johnroberts9845 I drove a 5.0-litre F-Type a few months ago and that thing sounds amazing! Kills the M4 for sound, no question.
